"Shut Up + Dance" is now a free single on iTunes. I wonder if this will help exposure or cripple its sales...

I seriously thought it could become a #1 hit, but now it seems like that won't happen if everyone is getting it for free. The only other SOTW selection to go #1 was "Fireflies". I don't even think any selection has gone Top 10 besides that and "Bubbly".

I thought free singles didn't appear on the iTunes chart? (Though perhaps it's worth noting the original $1.29 version and the song included as part of the album are both still there.) "Try" sold like 800,000 copies the week it was free and I'm pretty sure it didn't chart.

I think Love Me Again, Riptide, and Stolen Dance were free, but I don't think they got top ten.

"Clarity" was a free single in Spring 2013 and went top 10; also, "Feel So Close" was a free music video when that was a thing, and that peaked at #12 much later on.

josh, what is the difference between instant grat, pre-order, complete my album These terms confuse me :| If you pre-order an album, any songs made available before the album released will be automatically purchased and downloaded as instant gratification songs. It doesn't matter if you pre-order after 3 instant grat songs are out, or pre-order before the 3 songs are out, you will get all 3 regardless, as soon as they are out and you have pre-ordered. Complete my album is if you buy just 1 song from an album, then later want to buy the rest, you get the album for full price minus whatever you paid for the song. Can be multiple songs. You can also only buy the singles before the album release without pre-ordering, then later once it's out complete the album. Better late than never, thanks. But do these "automatically purchased and downloaded as instant gratification songs" count for purposes of Hot 100? Edit: Oh, when did they stop being counted?

Meghan Trainor - All About That Bass 0.3622 4. Maroon 5 - Animals 0.3346 5. Hozier - Take Me to Church 0.3330 6. Sam Smith - I'm Not the Only One 0.2358 7. Nick Jonas - Jealous 0.2317 8. One Direction - Steal My Girl 0.1954 9. Fall Out Boy - Centuries 0.1949 10. Jessie J, Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj - Bang Bang 0.1809 Note that it is unknown how many of the 1D tracks are still that high due to instant grat status. Also, the song at #1 is the new single, so that one could be getting more purchases than the rest of the tracks and we wouldn't be able to tell currently.
