Sales of S&M went down slightly but not enough to keep S&M from hitting #1 for a week. Sales aren't going to go up that much because of the video. Videos don't necessarily help sales especially the the song is already at 60mm in radio airplay. Remixes from pop artists trying to hit #1 have recently proved themselves to be able to be a catalyst for a song to hit a new peak position when it's a high profile one or even a less profile one as in the case of LMFAO. I can't think of when a video for an Eminem song helped the song out in recent times. There is no precedence for it. |

I'm pretty sure 'Love the Way You Lie' was already #1 or very high when its video came out last year, but it got A LOT of hype. 'Lighters' could easily do the same, it's not safe to assume it won't make the difference. It's currently at 70% in iTunes pop bars, if it's still 70% when the video is released, I could see it gaining up to a 140% lead over #2, which is pretty huge. |

Yah- since "Lighters" already is high in sales, the effect from the video wouldn't be as noticaeble as it was for tracks like "F**kin' Perfect" and LFN.

I can't believe that some of you are worried about "Lighters" blocking "LFN" from getting to number 1!
It's just another song by an artist, it doesn't matter if it hit number 1 or not...It's already made huge success!

I agree, that it's not a big deal by any means if LFN does not peak at No. 1. It's the fifth single from her album, and it's spent multiple weeks at No. 2, without the aid of a gimmicky release. If it ends up peaking at No. 2, then the gimmicky release added nothing to its chart fortunes, but so what.

You know, people criticized Mariah to be a chart-obsessive at her peak. But for this new generation we have Rihanna and Katy Perry It's just easy, once an artist is STILL potential enough to score more #1s, the team will do anything to achieve that. And releasing a remix version is just a new trend. |

I'm not going to use that nasty word "deserve" here because I am aware it all comes down to chart points in a given week, BUT it would be a shame if LFN missed the number 1 spot when it's already spent multiple weeks at number 1 in sales, and it looks like its headed for multiple weeks at the top in airplay as well. One of those unfortunate scenarios when peaks for sales and airplay just don't match up, thus causing the song to miss number 1 on the big chart.

What website do you guys get these airplay updates from? Orkut. It's annoying to use, but if you go to this thread and jump to the last page every day around when I updated it yesterday, you should see the update somewhere. If you're looking for past updates though, don't bother with that. There are 4000+ pages in that thread and you have to click "next" 2000 times to get to the middle of the thread, which takes ages. I know from experience. |

The remix to Katy Perry's Hot 100, "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)," hit the 'net earlier than expected. "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" remix, featuring Missy Elliott leaked today (Aug. 6), before it's slated date of Monday (Aug. 8).
Missy Elliott opens the track with her 'Friday' night adventures. "I party till I'm out my mind, I kiss on him but he don't mind," Missy raps.
"Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" remix has the potential to tie Katy Perry and Michael Jackson for five Hot 100 No. 1s. To tie Jackson, the remix would have to push Perry's "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" to the No 1 slot on the chart. "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" is currently No. 2 on the Hot 100, right behind LMFAO's No. 1, "Party Rock Anthem."

Well you have to think what the purpose of this remix is. It's not to get an extra cashflow (although that is a nice side effect), it's to get Katy her #1.
For, say Judas by Lady Gaga, when it leaked earlier, they released the single to iTunes ASAP because they wanted the money instead of people downloading illegally.
Here they want the #1, so they will take the lost cash due to the leak and just wait until they can release it at the start of the sales week so they can get the #1.
