Looks like "You & I" will be Gaga's 2nd-worst performing single on airplay unless it has some miraculous growth (Judas of course being the low point so far). Not surprised -- it's just not very good. Her single choices outside of Edge of Glory have been so inexplicable this era.

I'm REALLY hoping Marry the Night is next, then. It's the only song that seems like an obvious single to me. Hair is beyond terrible. ("I want lots of friends that invite me to their parties"?!?!? -- sounds like it was written by a whiny 12 year old.)

(All that said, I don't hate the Born This Way album, it's just that my faves other than Edge of Glory are getting no love -- Marry the Night, Government Hooker, Heavy Metal Lover, Scheisse).

The problem is that it seems like she wrote songs that would intentionally sound awkward on the radio. The songs are great, but nothing that's a radio smash. It's a shame.

I'm not a huge fan of the album/radio version of "You and I" even though I love the live stripped-down/piano version she performed on the Monster Ball. I think it's too early to rule it a radio flop but I think #6 on the Hot 100 may be its peak since it's wobbling on iTunes (bar any TV performances or appearances that propel digital sales).

Ask pop radio. I think people are forgetting that pop radio appeals to the lowest common denominator. The goal is to be as simple, universal, and as easy to understand as possible. Pop radio listeners do not want something new, different, thought- provoking, something that takes a second listen to get into, etc. If you look at most recent pop hits the lyrics are absolutely simple, cheesy, and almost seem geared to appeal to morons. I don't get what pop radio anyone is talking about that thinks Scheibe, Government Hooker, and Americano would work at least in their original forms. Weird structure? Too much thinking. German? Too much thinking. Weird sound? Too much thinking. Hair-universal, simple, cheesy, and would never provoke a single thought from anyone? PERFECT.

I am not necessarily going for my favorite songs on the cd, but for singles she is pretty limited and Hair/MTN are probably the only two left that I would release without a serious edit.

i wonder if you add up the weeks at #1 for Firework, E.T. and LFN so far this year if the end total is close to 30% of 2011.

anybody got some facts? How many weeks combined at #1 total on overall airplay?

i think E.T. spent 6 weeks at #1 and Firework squeaked out a 1 week at #1, so that makes 7.

End total would be somewhere around 25.7% of the year 2011 that Katy was #1 overall.
