The thing is, that even though Irreplaceable was inescapable for months, nobody really says it first when naming a Beyonce-song. Even Halo is better remembered.

^It was a No. 2 hit and had very decent longevity- and that looks to be a good basis for many of the songs on the list, so not really too high. :)
For me, "Irreplaceable" is one of my favorite Beyonce songs, so it's one of the first ones I'd name. In terms of acclaim, "Crazy in Love" by far is her biggest. After that it's "Single Ladies" and "Irreplaceable."

My personal rank: CIL, SL, Halo and then it's a tie between IIWAB and Irreplaceable.

Yessss Bey! Snatch those 3 Top 20 entries :O :O :O
Like many said before, I'm surprised because the list seems to be pretty legit.

^Again- legit in what way? It does contain many of the decade's biggest hits. "Crazy in Love" was one of the most acclaimed tracks of the decade, and the list does contain many tracks that were regarded among the decade's best. But, any list that contains stuff from Creed, Daughtry, Nickelback, Pussycat Dolls, Jennifer Lopez, John Mayer, and others listed isn't really about the "best."

Poker Face seems out of place in the top 10. How so? There seem to be more deserving songs for a top 10 placement, i.e "Umbrella", "Yeah", etc.

Mariah placed much higher than any of her contemporaries on this list (Ciccone and Jackson are notable entries but are 20 positions or more below her). This further solidifies her as the only one of her peers who managed to remain relevant and continue to make a strong impact this far into her career. Also "We Belong Together" placed higher on VH1's list of Top 100 songs of the 00s than any of Mariah's songs did on VH1's Top 100 songs of the 90s. "Vision Of Love" just missed the Top 10 on that list.

VH1 Year End #1's that missed the list:
2000: "Otherside" - Red Hot Chili Peppers 2002: "Soak Up The Sun" - Sheryl Crow 2006: "Buttons" - Pussycat Dolls f/Snoop Dogg 2007: "Big Girls Don't Cry" - Fergie

jazzysoul, this is a VH1 songs list, and WBT was one of the decade's biggest chart hits- so, no surprise that it placed in the top 10.It doesn't have anything to do with of-the-moment relevance or anything of that sort. BTW- the 90s list was viewer-voted from an initial list of 125 or so tracks; same for the 80s, though, outside a couple of oddities, the 80s list was better).

To avoid any spoilers I have not read any posts in this thread since I want to be surprised. But I'm looking forward to watching this! Hopefully the #1 song is good like the 80's and 90's lists (Livin' On A Prayer and Smells Like Teen Spirit ), and some of my favorites don't get robbed like "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams".

If it's based on chart popularity then it does reflect relevance in the previous decade. :)

Not to mention WBT was released 15 years into Mariah's career. With Janet, "All For You" was released ~19 years into her career, same with Madonna and "Music" with ~18 years.

Ppl shouldn't be up in arms about this list. It's from Vh1...I don't agree with some of the entries being so high but it really isn't a list that matters after the show goes off. Ppl also shouldn't be surprised that there are other factors into this list outside of Billboard stats and even video rotation. But I will say that I can't think of more than 5 songs that should be included which means at least VH1 did good at the selection of songs...maybe not as good as the ranking though.

37. Britney Spears / Oops!โฆI Did It Again 20. Britney Spears / Toxic
Not bad, but surprised "Toxic" didn't get in the top 10. Where the hell is "Womanizer"?

There are so many songs that should by higher and lower if based off of more but VH1 chooses the ranking so...

"In Da Club" is a club classic and has much more cultural relevance than "Toxic" so I'm not sure why it would rank lower...

I think IDC should be higher than Toxic but Bootylicious has no place in the top 20.

Bootylicious is pretty much just the Stevie Nicks sample. But a good one.

In terms of acclaim, "Toxic" had had a bit more than "In Da Club," but IDC had a great amount, too- never understood it, as it's one continuous loop, with no real sonic shift throughout the track. But, that's just me. "Toxic" also fared better on decade-end lists.

Watched it last night. What a horrible set of songs so far with a few exceptions (Jaded, In The End, It's Not Over). And the people who comment aren't being funny at all, what's with Ashley Dupre being on there?

I was quite impressed with the top 40, for the most part. I'm a bit surprised "American Idiot" was on there though and not "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams", it was also awesome to see Adele and the Foo Fighters get some love! I like the entire top 10 aside from "Hey Ya", which I never liked, and "In Da Club", which is just okay. But I like the following songs: 98. 3 Doors Down / Kryptonite 94. Daughtry / Itโs Not Over 91. Creed / With Arms Wide Open 89. M.I.A. / Paper Planes 86. Aerosmith / Jaded 84. Linkin Park / In the End 82. Matchbox Twenty / Unwell 77. Nickelback / How You Remind Me 76. T.I. ft Rihanna / Live Your Life 73. Nelly Furtado ft Timbaland / Promiscuous 69. Evanescence / Bring Me to Life 68. Ludacris ft Shawnna / Stand Up 67. Leona Lewis / Bleeding Love 65. Aaliyah / Try Again 64. Jennifer Lopez ft Ja Rule / Iโm Real (Murder Remix) 63. Andrew W.K. / Party Hard 62. Avril Lavigne / Complicated 60. Ke$ha / Tik Tok 59. Justin Timberlake / Cry Me a River 57. Mary J. Blige / Family Affair 56. DMX / Party Up (Up In Here) 51. Natasha Bedingfield / Pocketful of Sunshine 49. Lady Gaga / Bad Romance 47. Christina Aguilera, Lilโ Kim, Mya, Pink / Lady Marmalade 45. Eve ft Gwen Stefani / Let Me Blow Ya Mind 44. Red Hot Chili Peppers / Californication 43. Katy Perry / I Kissed a Girl 42. Train / Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me) 40. Fall Out Boy / Sugar, Weโre Goin Down 39. Adele / Chasing Pavements 37. Britney Spears / Oops!โฆI Did It Again 36. *NSYNC / Bye Bye Bye 34. Janet Jackson / All For You 32. Maroon 5 / This Love 31. Amy Winehouse / Rehab 30. Gwen Stefani / Hollaback Girl 29. Foo Fighters / Best of You 28. Madonna / Music 27. Usher ft Lil Jon and Ludacris / Yeah! 26. The White Stripes / Seven Nation Army 22. Alicia Keys / Fallinโ 21. Jay-Z / 99 Problems 20. Britney Spears / Toxic 19. Destinyโs Child / Bootylicious 18. Christina Aguilera / Beautiful 15. U2 / Beautiful Day 14. Gnarls Barkley / Crazy 13. Green Day / American Idiot 11. Rihanna ft Jay-Z / Umbrella 9. Mariah Carey / We Belong Together 8. Jay-Z ft Alicia Keys / Empire State of Mind 7. Justin Timberlake ft Timbaland / SexyBack 6. Kanye West ft Jamie Foxx / Gold Digger 5. Kelly Clarkson / Since U Been Gone 4. Eminem / Lose Yourself 3. Awful, awful list. Lacks tons of hit songs from the 00s. Including:
Vertical Horizon, "Everything You Want" [US #1, 2000] Red Hot Chili Peppers "Otherside" [US #14, 2000] Lifehouse, "Hanging by a Moment" [US #2, 2001] The Calling, "Wherever You Will Go" [US #5, 2002] Goo Goo Dolls, "Here is Gone" [US #18, 2002] Jimmy Eat World, "The Middle" [US #5, 2002] Switchfoot, "Meant to Live" [US #18, 2004] Hoobastank, "The Reason" [US #2, 2004] Weezer, "Beverly Hills" [US #10, 2005] Coldplay, "Viva la Vida" [US #1, 2008] Kings of Leon, "Use Somebody" [US #4, 2009]
Also, these songs were too, too low:
3 Doors Down, "Kryptonite" The Killers, "Mr. Brightside" Matchbox 20, "Unwell" Train, "Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)"
I just don't like it since VH1 is a Hot AC leaning channel, so I expected Hot AC songs to be higher, and some to be on here.

^A lot of those should have been featured and I agree that those 4 songs were too low (especially "Drops Of Jupiter". That Hoobastank song was huge also, it was inescapable for that whole year.
I think they got some of the bigger staples dead on though, and "Bootylicious" deserved top 20 imo. It had a ton of cultural impact and made a statement (sounds funny but it did) about women with figures.
