Scotty McCreery's album may very well pass 100K. I wouldn't count him out just yet.

Ouch at DeRulo and Gloria Estefan. :'( -- 37 JASON DERULO ATLANTIC 4,760 FUTURE HISTORY I'm dying. That album title couldn't have been any more ironic.

Omg at Demi's drop :X
To be fair, Gavin's and NeedtoBreathe's drops are quite embarrassing as well. I guess Demi & Gavin are prime examples of how controversy doesn't always sell.

I'll be surprised if Mastodon's sales really are that low. I expect them to at least match what their last album. It does look like it will just manage to make the Top 10 though.
Machine Head look set to achieve their best sales and chart performance to date in the US.

Yeah, but Lovato and Degraw's "controversy" had nothing to do with the work itself, so why would it drum up interest in the albums?
Gloria Estefan landed way outside the low end of the projection.

Circus wasn't exactly a tell all of Britney's troubled past but managed to outdo Blackout by numbers and became one of her most successful eras to date in ticket sales turnouts, radio airplay & sales. Gavin's controversy may have been completely unrelated (though it's the only reason I took an interest in his new album & felt compelled to purchase it). But Demi's was most definitely touted as a comeback of sorts and her entire promotional efforts were based around her overcoming her troubles and being "ok" now.

There was no controversy with the Circus album when it was released- a more fitting example to the discussion would be Blackout- all the personal scandals that preceded it did not help that album, either.

So we're comparing Gavin and Demi to the pop icon Britney Legendney/God.ney Spears... ok...um

LOL She is the far bigger and more successful star, but, as an artist... that may be another story. I was just likening her personal controversies as also not helping sales, just as they haven't with the two aforementioned acts.

Well, in Arabic Rool=rul=Troll, maybe that's why... Question is, do the single sales make up for the almost non existing album sales? maybe he'd get dropped...

Jason DeRulo is getting dropped. Plain and simple. He needs to go the Flo Rida route and just release short EPs.

Wow @ Jason Derulo.....that's just sad
Anyway, excellent numbers for J. Cole. I've been a fan of his since 2009 and I never thought he'd become this popular. It's about time we see a hip hop artist who doesn't rely on image and gimmicks have some success. He's the biggest breath of fresh air this genre has had since Kanye West in 2004.

There was no controversy with the Circus album when it was released- a more fitting example to the discussion would be Blackout- all the personal scandals that preceded it did not help that album, either. That is quite possibly the worst example you could have used as Britney was at her absolute worst when that album came out, while with Circus she was back on form, for the most part. Demi has "overcome" her struggles in the public eye and even recorded a song to try & prove that. So both situations are comparable (w/te exception of Britney's not talking about her dark times.) No one said Demi was going to pull Circus numbers, heck Britney can't anymore, it was an example.

I think Demi's fall just proves what I was saying last week -- a very strong core fan base but almost zero name recognition outside of it.

He sold too many with the last album for me to believe they'd drop him over this album. I do think they should give up on releasing albums. Stick to singles then maybe release an online EP after enough hits.

I Wish, regardless of how open anyone was or wasn't, it was just an example of personal-life "controversies" not boosting sales of a project- that's all. :)
Are those album reissues actually worth it? It could be that if reissues are well done and worth buying, that those will sell respectably. There have been some reissues that offered little incentive for fans to re-purchase the album.

It's funny seeing J Cole and Jason Derulo at the complete opposite of the spectrum. One has a number of hits and can't sell an album worth a lick, the other can't quite seem to land a solid hit but still has devoted fans.

Quality of recoring is sometimes attractive. Standard CDs don't sound quite as well on media players as their "digitally remastered" counterparts But you need to really be a fan of the original in order for it to be worth it

Ouch @ GaGa too.... 14k.... :/ This is unsettling to say the least. It just proves that releasing Y&I was a mistake. They tried to appeal to the Country/older public, but they just DON'T like GaGa. She should stick to her ¨roots¨ or what she does best from now on.

She should stick to her ¨roots¨ or what she does best from now on. A little sidenote... It doesn't hurt to flirt with "old" people when you're still a current pop act because at some point younger audience will move on and you have to find a new audience (Kelly Clarkson being a great example of that). I think You and I is a good single because some people, especially non-fans, really think it's her best work yet. However, it shouldn't have been released yet, maybe as the final single to close the era. And I predict BTW will continue to sell consistently. Even 10k a week will easily be enough to crack 2.2 million when all is said an done let alone if she gets a boost somewhere (Holiday sales, Grammy's for example)
