It is still an undeniable $MA$H with airplay like that. The song has been absolutely ubiquitous. I've heard it blasting from back yards, balconies, dorm rooms, restaurants, clubs, everywhere.

Sure, of course, and I love it myself. And I bet it'll be a consistent and era defining seller in the future.

What the hell happened yesterday for the updates to be so much bigger than today??
|
|
|
Post by josh on Jan 10, 2012 8:50:03 GMT -5
Yesterday was 1/9 meaning the update was for 1/8. The previous week was 1/1, which meant year-end countdowns were still playing a ton, which were decreasing the spins and audience significantly for newer songs. Yesterday's update was the songs just getting back to normal, which was a huge increase compared to when the countdowns happened.
Same for the update two days ago, which was a week after 12/31's update, which was huge on countdowns as well.

Do you have any updates for Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know"? I'm shocked that it's so high on itunes now and I listen to my local alternative station every day and I still haven't heard it on there. I don't know where it's being played where people would hear it and be downloading it...

It's starting to be picked up on Triple A (being most added this week there) and alternative (top 20 there and most added so far for the week). Other than that I think its itunes position is down to the video/internet hype for the song.

There's also an inferior version getting around by "Walk Off The Earth". What is THAT about?? And don't tell me that there's a chance this version will become accepted here over Gotye's??? That version is at 71 on the itunes chart, Gotye's version is currently at 45.

^ LOL. So if Glory charted, would that make Blue the youngest to appear on a BB chart? She needs a credit? Because I believe lots of babies have appeared on songs (there's a sample of baby crying on Are You That Somebody for example) In the UK, the youngest chart topper without a credit is the baby appearing on Teletubbies theme song (1997).

Over on the Digital Songs chart, Jason Mraz comes bounding in straight at No. 1 with his new single "I Won't Give Up," selling 229,000 downloads in its first week. The cut is the first offering from his upcoming fourth studio album and marks his second-best sales week ever for a song. Only his smash No. 3 Hot 100 single "I'm Yours" moved more in a week, when it sold 233,000 over Christmas week of 2008.
LMFAO's "Sexy and I Know It" falls 1-2 with 212,000 (down 49%), Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain" rallies 6-3 (203,000; down a smallish 24%) and Rihanna's "We Found Love" (featuring Calvin Harris) drops 2-4 with 185,000 (down 42%). Flo Rida's "Good Feeling" climbs 7-5 (168,000; down 35%), LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" slides 4-6 (164,000; down 45%) and Jay-Z & Kanye West's "Ni**as In Paris" rises one to No. 7 (163,000; down 33%).
Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa's "Young, Wild & Free" is up two spots to No. 8 (160,000; down 24%), Katy Perry's "The One That Got Away" flies 3-9 (154,000; down 50%) and Bruno Mars' "It Will Rain" tumbles 5-10 (154,000; down 45%).
Digital track sales this past week totaled 32.77 million downloads, down 29% compared to last week (46.42 million) and up 10% stacked next to the comparable week of 2011 (29.78 million). Year to date track sales are at 32.77 million, up 10% compared to the same total at this point last year (29.78 million).

So, looks like 1. WEe Found Love 2. Sexy And I Know It 3. It Will Rain
SFTTR and "Good Feeling" are VERY close to battle for Nos. 4 and 5. TOTGA looks to settle in at No. 6, unless streaming makes the difference for 4-6.

www.billboard.com/news#/news/jason-mraz-s-i-won-t-give-up-storms-hot-1005841552.storyJason Mraz's 'I Won't Give Up' Storms Hot 100's Top 10by Keith Caulfield & Gary Trust | January 11, 2012 Without the aid so far of radio or an all-out promotional push, Jason Mraz blasts onto the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 8 with "I Won't Give Up," courtesy of a No. 1 debut on the Digital Songs chart. The song starts with 229,000 downloads sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and marks his first No. 1 on the tally. On the Hot 100, the track's launch is the highest for a male pop/rock singer-songwriter since David Cook burst in at No. 3 with "The Time of My Life" the week of June 7, 2008, after he was crowned "American Idol" champion. On Digital Songs, "Won't" marks the first No. 1 debut since Lil Wayne's "How to Love," featuring Drake, bowed at the summit the week of Sept. 3, 2011, with 254,000 downloads sold. "Won't" is the lead single from Mraz's as-yet-untitled fourth studio album, due May 8. The set follows 2008's "We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.," which debuted and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and has sold 1.7 million copies in the U.S., according to SoundScan. Mraz premiered "Won't" live during his 2011 concert tour, well before an official version was released. The buzz was so great on the track that it quickly caught viral fire and, in the past couple weeks, garnered cover versions by YouTube luminaries Christina Grimmie and Tyler Ward. Dane Venable, Atlantic Records senior VP/marketing, saw Mraz perform "Won't" at Carnegie Hall in New York in late November and recalls it as "absolutely breathtaking. It got a standing ovation." Even though the song had already been laid down in the studio with a full band, Atlantic then encouraged Mraz to re-record it acoustically. Venable says that Atlantic "knew the emotional impact of the song" and thought it would be a "great gift for the fans (for us) to release it at the top of the year, to just kick off 2012 with this gift of hope." "I won't give up on us, even if the skies get rough," Mraz sings in the song's chorus. "I'm giving you all my love. I'm still looking up." As the tracklist for Mraz's forthcoming album is still being finalized, Atlantic says that it's too early to confirm if both the acoustic and full-band versions of "Won't" will appear on the set. Last month, Mraz told Billboard.com that his new set will feature "less horns, more piano and guitar textures (and) more vocal landscapes. That, to me, has always been my favorite part of making music; the singing and what voices can do and voices singing in harmony." While the official lyric video for "Won't" has racked 2.5 million views since its upload to Mraz's YouTube channel Jan. 2, a proper video is on the way. Atlantic says that Mraz is currently reviewing treatments and hopes to film the clip before the end of the month. The label aims to release the short by the second or third week of February. Also due next month: "Won't" will get its first TV performance Feb. 16 when Mraz sings it on NBC's "Today." The gig is scheduled two days after "Won't" earns a rare physical CD single release Feb. 14 - not so coincidentally, Valentine's Day. The single's tracklist isn't yet final but may include both the acoustic and full-band versions of "Won't." Following the song's viral buzz and impressive sales start, Atlantic will begin promoting "Won't" to radio, working the song to Mraz's home bases of adult pop and adult alternative Feb. 23. The label is likely to follow with a push to pop radio shortly thereafter. "Won't" marks Mraz's second Hot 100 top 10, following his No. 6-peaking 2008 smash "I'm Yours." The latter song set the record for most weeks (76) that a single has spent on the Hot 100 in the chart's 53-year history. At 5.9 million in digital sales to-date, "Yours" is the eighth-best-selling download in SoundScan history and the highest by a male pop/rock singer-songwriter.
