Since HITS hasn't published any predictons yet... Can Anything Stop Adele's '21' Reign at No. 1?Expect a 15th No. 1 on the Billboard 200; Lone Top 40 Debut Could Be SafetySuit's 'These Times' With few new major album releases out this week -- as is customary at the beginning of the year -- Adele's "21" will likely spend a 15th week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart next week. It's projected to sell anywhere between 100,000 to 140,000 copies by week's end on Sunday, Jan. 8, according to industry prognosticators. It's edging ever closer to the 16-week No. 1 run of the "Titanic" soundtrack in 1998 -- the last album to lock up more weeks at No. 1. Further frames at No. 1 for "21" are possible, as the next challenger for the top slot could be the "Kidz Bop 21" album due out Jan. 17. Adele Rules 2011 With Top Selling Album & Song The highest debut next week (and likely only in the entire top 40) will be rock act SafetySuit with its iTunes-exclusive "These Times." The set, which becomes widely available to all retailers on Jan. 10 after its week of iTunes' exclusivity, may start in the top 10 with perhaps 15,000 copies sold. If "21" can claim a 15th week at No. 1, how does that compare to other blockbuster chart-toppers in recent history? Since 1990, only six albums have spent 15 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. "Titanic" racked 16 in 1998, as did Vanilla Ice's "To the Extreme" in 1990 and 1991. Billy Ray Cyrus' "Some Gave All" had 17 weeks at No. 1 in 1992 while Garth Brooks' "Ropin' the Wind" lassoed 18 frames in 1991-1992. The Whitney Houston-driven soundtrack to "The Bodyguard" (20; 1992-1993) and M.C. Hammer's "Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em" (21; 1990) have the most weeks at No. 1 since 1990. Um what:

I hope that's a typo, it would easily be the lowest top ten charting album ever.

So the Top 10 will be frozen, with the addition of SafetySuit.

So the Top 10 will be frozen, with the addition of SafetySuit. Maybe not: a few albums, such as F+TM's Ceremonials, benefited from being marked way down on iTunes this week, so there could be a few rank changes now the promotion's over.

Could this album potentially go diamond? I mean SFTTR is just getting started, we have the Grammys coming up with HOPEFULLY a performance and most likely AOTY and multiple wins. She could move almost another million units by the end of February. She easily could release 2-3 more huge singles plus with her big return to stadiums and touring in 2012...we could potentially see a diamond album if it is marketed properly.

I think 8 million would be the absolute roof - which would still make it the best-selling album since 2004.

Ms. Adkins, continuing to leave all others fighting for the leftover sales scraps.

I think the album will end somewhere in the low 8 million range. Extremely impressive! They should do a re-release for the holidays next year to add on sales. Include a couple new songs and some christmas songs to boost her over.

I don't think Adele will go Diamond anytime soon (like the next 3-5 years) but ONE DAY in our lifetimes it should... it will be one of those watershed albums that keeps selling and selling in catalog

HITS:
Adele gets a 15th week at #1 as 21 approaches the 6m mark. It will also be the album's 41st non-consecutive week in the Top 3 as it moves in on the record of 46 weeks set by Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill. Adele could also have two in the Top 10 as 19 moves up the chart, thanks to the surrounding post-holiday decay. Here's how it looks for the first chart of 2012:
Adele 21 (XL/Columbia) 120-130k Drake (Young Money/Cash Money/Universal Republic) 45-50k Black Keys (Nonesuch) 40-45k Young Jeezy (Def Jam/IDJ) 35-40k Coldplay (Capitol/EMI) 30-35k Florence + the Machine (Universal Republic) 27-30k Rihanna (Def Jam/IDJ) 27-30k LMFAO (Interscope) 27-30k Nickelback (Roadrunner) 24-27k Adele 19 (XL/Columbia) 22-25k Lil Wayne (YM/CM/Universal Republic) 19-22k Lady Antebellum (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 19-22k *SafetySuit (Universal Republic) 19-22k Skrillex (Big Beat) 18-21k Toby Keith (Show Dog) 18-21k Kelly Clarkson (19/RCA) 18-21k

So if it wasn't for Adele, we'd be into 40k #1's again, by the looks of it.

^Like any act that sees a break out in a given year, we wonder what the sales climate would be like without that act. So, let's not bother and just continue to appreciate the dominance that Ms. Adkins is enjoying and how her album is propping up the industry. :)

Pretend this album was released back when album sales were healthier (let's say 2002, when Norah Jones came out with "Come Away With Me), how many albums do you think it would have sold at this point?

Yay Adele! The Black Keys is doing well too, if they can score one breakout hit from this album they will likely get a lot of love at the Grammys next year

Kelly Clarkson being noted! That's good. Her label needs to throw out a new single now while her sales still decent.
