Ed is going to need to try a little harder. Fortunately Style is very far.

I was watching the country chart and the whole top 10 are solo males, you need to go to number 12 for the first group and to number 20 for the first female singer (well to be accurate Ashely Monroe is at number 2 as featured artist in Blake Shelton's song).
And i don't want to analize the lyrics but i don't think i would find much variety either. Right now it seems that if you don't fit the mold you are not going to get airplay, no matter how good your songs are.
And it's curious because it seems quite endogamic, because that type of song popularity doesn't seem to translate into crossovers.
There's a good while since last country crossover, not even Sam Hunt, the guy everybody seems to think it push boundaries of country sound. I thought Leave the night on was going to be released to hot Ac but if it was it didn't get any support

I'm not that sure of that. Ed updates are erratic, with the panel change is difficult to know, but there are the typical updates of a song near peaking.
Uptown funk is not exactly dropping like a stone, Style is very far, but at this rhythm it won't be that far by the time TOL catch UF

Thinking Out Loud - 601 spins away from Uptown Funk (-125)
Style - 3356 spins away from Thinking Out Loud (-337)

Sure, "Style" is gaining on "Thinking Out Loud" faster than "Thinking Out Loud" is gaining on "Uptown Funk," but the gap between "Uptown Funk" and "Thinking Out Loud" is 5.5 times smaller than the gap between "Style" and "Thinking Out Loud." At this rate, "Thinking Out Loud" will surpass "Uptown Funk" by next Sunday with "Style" still being around 1200 spins away from "Thinking Out Loud." Even if "Thinking Out Loud" starts to drop, the gap between it and "Style" is extremely large. Also, "Uptown Funk" has already begun its descent, so it will only start to lose faster. The only thing that could keep Ed from getting to number one is if "Style" starting getting +500s or "Thinking Out Loud" started dropping way faster than anyone would expect, which that isn't likely to happen given its still massive appeal on call out scores, digital sales, and streaming.

Actually no. It's over 20 weeks, but since it missed the Top 10, it needs two weeks of losses to go recurrent - same as with "Remember When" and "Hall of Fame", actually at this same time two years ago.

No. Per the current Mediabase rules, if a song is bulleted for more than 20 weeks, it will be allowed one "down" week before it's removed. "Centuries" will go recurrent next week.

I'm disappointed Ed couldn't get to #1, this week. I think hitting #1 by mid-week shouldn't be too much of a stretch. Taylor's far enough behind that, hopefully, he can make it official next Sunday.

No Kanye never was top 40 so he isn't going to be purged.
I think only Love me harder is going recurrent this week. There were a bunch of songs ready to be purged but they went outside top 50 already

I was just checking some old pop charts, and you know, for the fact that they were considered pop princesses at one time, Mandy Moore, Jessica Simpson and even Britney Spears herself flopped like crazy around 2000-2003. I thought they were huge that period, but I guess not. I thought stuff like "Crush", "A Little Bit" or "I'm Not A Girl" would've smashed on pop.

Mandy Moore never had a top 10 hit, i wanna be with you was a sizable hit but i think it peaked at 11 or something like that.

Jessica Simpsong biggest hit on her first era was surprisingly not even top 10 on pop (I wanna love you forever was number 3 on the billboard hot 100)

Britney was big on pop (on the billboard hot 100 not that much, i was very surprised some of her pop hits were barely top 20)

But in 2001 she started the i'm slave for you era, and radio had a bad reaction to her hits. I think it's quite natural, teen stars rarely transition to adult singers smoothly.
Justin Timberley is a exception, but he wasn't a solo singer, so in my opinion it's easier to try a change of sound that way

Anyway, the beginning of last decade was very rap and hip hop oriented. The number of pure pop number ones on the billboard hot 100 was very little, so it's not surprised that a lot of pop singers struggled in the charts

Yeah but its one thing to struggle on the Hot 100, another is to struggle on pop radio, the radio that should be supporting your hits. They weren't exactly new singers by then either, but big names in the teen biz. On the Hot 100 their labels were also to blame for not releasing their songs for sale.

Yes, but they were on an age that they weren't teen stars anymore, and that transition is tricky. Most teen stars are unable to do it successfully.

Bieber for example is a rare case that he did his transition having more success on radio than before (he sold less albums but got more airplay and did even better on the hot 100).
Of course Bieber it wasn a traditional release back in the day, he was discovered on internet and radio was quite reluctant to play his songs (he had several top 20 hits but they generally have a short chart run, rise fast and drop even faster).

Curiously he spoiled that good transition behaving like an a***ole and now he is going to need to do it all over again.

Brit for a once was like Madonna at the beginning of the 90's, way more famous than her sales.
Brit was attached to a pure image with all that talk about virginity and so on which maybe made her marketable as teenage star but not that much as adult star. And of course break with that image is not easy and has consecuences.
I think it's more difficult for a girl. Nick Jonas did it without any problem, but of course the market is not the same now that it was a decade ago
