LOL at Fergie being on the list and not Pat Benatar and Heart. VH1 are pretty much adamant on making this list 1990-2011 based which is nuts. Meaning acts who were much more successful in the '80s than the '90s like Cyndi Lauper, Heart, Tina Turner, etc, will all be left out. 1980 should have been the cutoff, that would have been somewhat more reasonable.

If that's what VH1 wanted to do, the list should've been "VH1's 100 Greatest Women In Music For The Past 25 Years"

All next week, VH1 will be counting down a list of the 100 Greatest Women In Music. Each weeknight at 10 p.m. ET/PT beginning on Monday, February 13, a new hour-long episode of The Greatest will air on VH1, each show focusing in on the merits of the best female artists of the last 20 years and change. As a precursor to the next week’s reveal, we thought that we’d kick off the discussion by revealing this list of 14 women who ALMOST made the list. They’re all terrific artists in their own right, which just goes to show how amazing the full list is going to be next week. This list of the Almost Greatest goes, as follows (in alphabetical order, natch): Christina Perri, Ciara, The Corrs, The Cranberries, Danity Kane, Duffy, Enya, Jessica Simpson, Lily Allen, Michelle Branch, Selena, Sinead O’Connor, Sugarland, and Vanessa Carlton. some of those are surprises, but some arnt. like christinia perri i wouldnt expect on the list, she is SO new. danity kane only had like 2 hits. michelle only had 4 hits a bit surprised at ciara, and jessica simpson not making it.

^ Does this mean that everyone else on that "finalists" list actually made the list?

j74, there were 115 finalists in the initial list. Presuming that the Glee Cast Ladies don't rank in the top 100 ( ), then everybody else should feature in the top 100.

Well, it's called "Greatest Women in Music"- "all-time" really isn't part of the official program title.
The initial list was more of an all-time list, and was decent enough in its goals.
There are many inconsequential females left in that top 100 (the almost-made-it's, the same thing), but it's VH1, so it's going to be more mainstream than perhaps another outlet doing the same. Amount of commercial success should not equate to "greatest," so it will be interesting to see how the list ends up.

^Danity Kane was one of the "almost-greats." Uh, yeah... OK. I think it was missing a couple hundred "almost's" in there.

I think we'll get plenty commercially and critically successful artists on this list just b/c of how many slots are available and how limited the time span is. I just hope that the cast of Glee is the final one on that list that didn't make it. All the ladies on that cast are talented but it doesn't feel right giving them a place on that list. I can't wait until it airs and hopefully the list leaks soon.

The Glee Cast has nearly 200 Hot 100 hits- of course the Glee ladies deserve a placement.

When you consider the fact that Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus, and Demi Lovato will all be top 100, then perhaps yes. But it's just that most people don't really consider the Glee Cast are artists in their own right, similar to the cast from "Fame".

It really is bizarre that the Disney chicks would appear- or that any surveyed person would vote for them- but, what can ya do. Maybe VH1 itself did end up compiling this list.

Still thinking it'll be
1 Madonna 2 Mariah Carey 3 Beyonce....I could even see her getting #2 since she was significantly higher than Mariah on the 100 Greatest Artists ever list

^I'm sure there was a different pool of voters for the Greatest Artists list, though (similar to VH1's initial 100 Greatest Artists and 100 Greatest Women lists).

I wonder if Whitney will rank top 3 now. I was sure she would rank top 5 / just outside top 5 anyway, but VH1 could still switch the orders by this point.

I don't know if they would switch anything- while this is a major loss, it's not something that really should impact the program, outside of perhaps mentioning in her segment that she has passes. Any other women on the list aside from Amy Winehouse (and now Whitney) that have passed?

That's right- thanks. Whitney was young at 48, but those two girls... Sad, all around.

She should rank Top Three regardless of whether she passed or not. The Bodyguard sold more copies than any album Madonna or Mariah put out in the period of 1990-2011, and IWALY sold more copies than any single those two ladies put out as well. If that's who you're considering to be top three. I don't know if she'd be #1 or above or below those ladies, because I'm not really sure how I'd place them. But she should definitely be high up there among them. The 90s in particular were a great run for her, from 1990 to 2000. After that it gets murkier, but still a great decade there.

^But, it's not "100 Most Successful Females." Granted, I know it's VH1, and that probably comes into play somewhat. Regardless, I'd expect Whitney to rank at least in the top 20, even though the last decade or so hasn't been the best for her.

The list is out. Top 10: 05. Adele 04. Lady Gaga 03. Beyoncé NO. This is how I can tell that Adele is overrated.

I do think Adele is a bit high for now, but that's not nearly as bothersome as Christina coming at #8. Katy Perry and Jennifer Lopez also seem too high.
