Didn't they do this like 12-13 years ago? ... Sidenote, if Carole King isn't at least in the top 10, someone's getting burned, lol.

My only fear is that Beyonce will probably end up top ten.

Sparks probably recorded comments- I doubt she'd be in the top 100.
VH1 also did a 50 Greatest Women of the Video Era list, but that one looked to be more hits-driven, as opposed to the 100 Greatest Women list, which was not.
I'm sure we'll see some notable differences wit hthis list compared to the 1999 one (just as we did with the 100 Greatest Artists list compared to the first one).

^If the 100 Greatest Artists list is anything to go by, she may. On the other hand, it's likely different group of people contributing to the voting, so it may not.

Looks like this list covers only 1990-present? Weird. But, it definitely allows for higher rankings for some than we would have thought, otherwise. www.sacbee.com/2012/01/14/4187583/vh1-honors-women-who-rock-it-out.htmlVH1 Honors Women Who ROCK-IT-OUT in "100 Greatest Women in Music"5-Night Special Premieres Monday, February 13th at 10 PM/9c on VH1 Published: Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012 NEW YORK, Jan. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Women rule and countdown specials rock! VH1 is combining the two together for a week paying homage to the women who made their mark in the music industry. "100 Greatest Women in Music" will honor female artists who have thrived in the music industry from 1990 to present day. The list will honor female artists in a range of genres including pop, R & B, rap, country and rock. The 5-night, 1-hour special "100 Greatest Women in Music" premieres Monday, February 13th at 10 PM/9c and concludes Friday, February 17th. It's time to recognize the women who changed music history with the premiere of VH1's "100 Greatest Women in Music." Covering the past 20 years of music, VH1 premieres its exclusive '100 Greatest' countdown special solely dedicated to female music artists. VH1 explores which music icons have staying power after some 20 years in the music business and which newcomers belong on the same list with some of music's biggest names. Will the "Number One" title go to timeless icons including Madonna, Janet Jackson and Whitney Houston, or will it go to today's record-breaking newcomers including Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Rihanna? Industry experts, pop culture commentators and music artists including Tori Amos, Gloria Estefan and Macy Gray will offer their views on who made the list and how the artists ranked. Let the debate begin! VH1's "100 Greatest Women in Music" is executive produced by Jeff Olde, Shelly Tatro and Karla Hidalgo for VH1. I wonder if Tina Turner will still count. She had "I Don't Wanna Fight", "When The Heartache Is Over" and her tours were MEGA in the '90s and 2000.

Hmmm. From the current music artists today, I'd say that the following are all safe bets: -Gaga -Katy -Rihanna -Britney -Taylor -Kelly -Adele -Carrie -Beyonce (Most likely Top 10) -Madonna (Most likely Top 10) -JLo (maybe...? I think she'd probably be on there) Basically, the Pulse divas.

I'd imagine that Madonna, Mariah and Celine would be top three then.

The list *shouldn't* be based on commercial success from 1990-on. Hopefully it doesn't read like that when the list is revealed. There needs to be some great, non-mainstream women featured- but, it is VH1, so...
For instance, Bjork and PJ Harvey by far have been the most acclaimed/celebrated females to emerge since 1990. And one major commercial success that had more acclaim than strings of female albums put together was Lauryn Hill's one solo album.

^With a focus on 1990-present, and given VH1's more recent output, I think it's pretty safe to say Mimi will make the top 100. :)

Whether some think so or not she's been one of the most important female artists to come out in the last 20+ years.

Well, the word "greatest" is vague - could mean most critically acclaimed, most successful, most influential, most original, most talented, or some combination of all of those. I wouldn't worry about Bjork, PJ Harvey, or Mariah - I'm pretty sure all three will be fairly high as they all tick several of those boxes above.

Well, we've seen how Mimi Carey has not fared all that greatly on best-of features- but, this is one where she could place somewhat favorably.
Will be interesting to see if voters remember pre-1990 females who still made music past 1990. I mean, a list without Aretha Franklin, Joni Mitchell, etc.- no matter that their heyday was pre-1990- would look kinda weird.

Public opinion of her is significantly better now than it was in 1999 the first time they compiled a list. Her 2005 comeback really turned public opinion around and gained her more industry respect. Didn't she even make #1 on a VH1 list of greatest female vocalists or something?

Other than a VH1 list from the '90s, I presume you mean the MTV Best Voices Ever in Music list? www.ranker.com/list/mtv_s-best-voices-in-music-ever/music-lover

^Yah, that was an MTV list. She did appear at the lower end of Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Singers list, too. I've compiled info from all sorts of artist-based best-of lists (not albums/songs), and Mimi hasn't fared all that much better on those than she has on the albums/singles ones. Again, there's some here and there, but nowhere near the amount seen by the usual ones who get cited.
If this list was compiled in the same manner as the recent artists one (where VH1 itself did not vote), we should see a number of Pulse "divas" sprinkled through the list. :)

^I'd be surprised, given that she's not usually touted as one of the great artists or anything. She was top five on the Women of the Video Era list, but that was VH1-only-compiled.

And i doubt it, but itd be nice to see Duff

You keep saying that over and over, same with Mariah. Admit it, a certain amount of people find her influential. Same with Beyonce and any other female artist who has had an enormous amount of success or has been around for more than 5 years. Just: Anyways, if this list is 1990-present, then the present divas have every right to rank highly. However, I still think it should be all encompassing like the last time.

^I say it because it's true- all one has to do is look at all the various lists out there- THAT'S what I'm going by. So there. :) of course there always will be someone who finds an act influential/to be a favorite of theirs.
I agree that it should be all-encompassing. But this probably was a move to appeal to the younger crowd a little more.
