are we pretending that the site that posted the "monkey pissing in its mouth" review over jet would end up liking a glorified led zeppelin tribute band Pitchfork is also the site that ended Sonic Youth's commercial viability by giving them a 0.0 and derailed a nascent The Airborne Toxic Event with a 1.2. I think we're pretending that Pitchfork didn't play a crucial role in rock's fall from grace in pop culture honestly. big difference between two indie rock bands whose audiences have some overlap with pitchfork's and a band who plays classic rock pastiches whose audience either is generally unaware what pitchfork is or is indifferent to it at best (not that either band were really affected much by those reviews, I'm sure sonic youth already were on the way out in 2000 and I doubt pitchfork was taken that seriously then either, and the airborne toxic event still had quite a few radio hits, so it doesn't matter nearly as much as you think it does lol)

To be frank, rock music should take it as a fact of pride when Pitchfork trashes them. Being praised at that site makes the band immediately seem pretentious.

Pitchfork is irrelevant and no one should be taking it seriously in this day and age.

yeah imo Pitchfork is FAR from the biggest issue with rock these days. honestly i have no problem with them trashing Greta Van Fleet for lacking originality, it's not like they're wrong. i'd argue the fact that a blatant Led Zeppelin tribute band managed to become the biggest active rock band in the world is far more representative of the genre's issue as a whole.

I never understood all the complaints about review sites influencing people’s opinions, I think as long as you feel comfortable with your own opinions about music then other people’s taste shouldn’t matter? obviously I’m with you guys in that I don’t let sites like Pitchfork determine my opinion, but I never got why this was such a big deal

positive reviews will often influence me to take a listen to a new band...or even give a band i've never liked another try...but if i already like something (Sir Sly for example), all of the negative reviews don't mean shit to me

There were some big non-rock artists with new albums out this week such as Kesha, Lil Wayne, and Meghan Trainor. However, there were also a large number of rock albums out today as well. Theory of a Deadman being the largest artist on the list, but... other albums might show more interest on this board.
As always, if I did miss anything that should be on the list, please comment it below.

I haven't been blown away by the new STP material. Hopefully the album's titles doesn't refer to the music. "Lost" On the other hand I believe Green Day's new album will keep me enticed all year long.

Already checked out Stitched Up Heart's new album. I give it a 6 out of 10. I don't see many rockers going for this one unless you Imagine Demi Lovato going Metal. That's what makes it work for me. I'm definitely gotta check out Huey Lewis and The News. That's a certified fun music vibe I won't miss out on.

So I decided to come up with a chart that tests what it might be like if all the three radio charts were combined.
Things to note: - As always, take this with a grain of salt. I do not have full MB access so there is obviously missing data. - Critieria: Any song to currently chart on any of the three top 50 radio charts: Alt, Active and AAA. - This includes any tracking data I made for songs below the top 50, except audience numbers.

How come certain bands (In Flames, Lacuna Coil) don't send anything to radio anymore? They did pretty well in the past. I wish they could do better. And honestly that song "Follow Me" (I, The Mask) could have been a really big hit for them, on Mainstream Rock anyway. I'm also high as s**t right now so there that. Yeah, goodnight.
HTML IS KINDA DIFFICULT RIGHT NOW SORRY FOR ANY MISTAKE (#sorrynotsorry)
Yes, I like this. You like that?

People high as kites make hilarious forum posts, I've noticed. Just hope the way down wasn't a crash landing.

@bobpatience - I mistyped, the 3rd source was actually CMJ which included a list in R&R (not Gavin)...I did use Gavin for 1987 though. Gavin did an album chart, but they listed the 3 most played songs from the album (which could change week-to-week)
Orange Crush would’ve been the top song of the year (spending 8 weeks at #1), but it was included on the 1989 rankdown, and I won’t be using any repeats

I've heard of them before as they've been coming up on my Discover Weekly over the last few months. I said to myself "When they release a new album at some point, shazam's going to love that name." I should play the damn lottery today

I did forget to include one other album that was released on last Friday that I absolutely have to check out.
The Classic Crime - "Patterns in the Static" (Alternative Rock, Post-Grunge, Post-Hardcore, Pop Punk) (similar to Anberlin, The Almost, Relient K, etc)
