Yes, an albums that are purchased using "Complete My Album" will register as an album sale on Soundscan, the singles already purchased will register as -1 on the singles sales

Sales are subracted on the Soundscan chart in the "total" column, weekly chart sales totals are unaffected - is how I believe it works.

Alright thanks :) So she could lose points from her radio points then? (In theory, of course)

I don't think the pre-order sales would be THAT high. It comes down to whether those pre-order album sales are included on iTunes' songs chart- I thought they were, but now I'm not 100% sure. After all, wouldn't that be duplicate representation on iTunes' charts? ???

There are two versions of GMAYL on iTunes: the single and the album version. If you pre-order the album, you're probably getting the album version and that download is not being added to the popularity of the single version on iTunes.
Anyone who has pre-ordered can verify that for sure.

^If that's the case, then it is possible they're not reflected on the Songs chart. It's also possible that the pre-order sales may not be super huge- so, maybe it could see some additional sales from that. With past pre-order titles, it may well have been that the individual purchase was selling big, and the pre-order sales added to it didn't make that much a different to its overall sales tally. Madonna does seem to do decently with pre-orders, compared to some others- but, the tally probably wouldn't be super high, as album sales are not as hig as track sales.
GMAYL is selling so-so on the Songs chart, so the pre-order sales (if not reflected on the Songs chart) could boost it a little bit (not enough to be a No. 1 contender or anything this week, though).

Sorry but I'm pretty sure we are seeing all GMAYL sales reflected in the currently #12 song. Don't know why its so hard to believe that is its actual position.

It's not hard to believe that that's the position, br- rather, that with album pre-orders being enough to rank above Adele's album, that coupled with non-pre-order purchases usually would rank higher than where GMAYL currently is. Surely not all of th GMAYL sales came from the pre-order? There's gotta be some buying it without the pre-order. I'm not saying any of this to justify a so-so sales ranking or anything of the sort, as I was one of those who was sure that they were applied to iTunes' songs chart. It's just something to ponder/speculate. I asked a Billboard rep and even he doesn't know if the pre-order auto-downloads are applied on iTunes' Songs chart (but, of course, they are counted in the SoundScan track sales tally).

The pre-orders being #1 is temporary. By Tuesday at the latest (espicially with new releases) there will be a different #1

^Oh absolutely- never been in doubt. The pre-orders that do rank No. 1 on iTunes usually descend from that position after a few days (if they last that long).

So let's say Adele sells 7000 a day to be #1 on iTunes albums (~50k per week digitally). Let's say Madonna gets to #1 on pre orders with 10000 in day 1. Add another 5000 buying just the single. That's 15000 of the single sold in day 1, which is the rate of about 105000 in a week. Guess what the #12 song typically sells in a week?
If there was some weird way iTunes charted pre order single downloads we would've encountered it before.

^ I get what you mean (believe me), and I hope you see what I'm simply pondering. :)
In past instances of some pre-orders, the tracks themselves probably were ranked higher than GMAYL is right now on the Songs chart, and selling a good amount more. So, in the end, any sales from the pre-order would not have made a huge difference in the overall final tally for the big-selling singles. And I'm not saying that it would in GMAYL's case, either, if that's how iTunes did things. Say, hypothetically, GMAYL sold 50K in three days (including post-Super Bowl impact); the pre-order sales- if not counted on the Songs chart- maybe would add 30K or so to that total, to make 80K. That 30K isn't a HUGE amount- just like a single selling 250K for the week and an additional 25K in pre-order sales- would not be.
In the end, if the pre-order sales are not reflected on iTunes' Songs chart, it's not a huge amount. But it could be enough to nudge a track up notably higher in Hot 100 rank.
Regardless, we'll surely know for certain once we know the sales tally. But even that will have 2.5-3 hours of post-SB impact, which would throw that theory off some.

Have you received the single version of GMAYL? If you did, then it is counting, if you didn't, then it is not. All we need is the word of someone who pre-ordered.

^I pre-ordered- and after completing the "purchase," the track automatically downloads. However, the single artwork does not save when you do that. For those purchasing just the track, does the single artwork save to your computer? Still not sure whether that offers a definitive answer, though. :)
So, with 23m and change from the pop format, GMAYL has more than 6 million audience from non-pop formats. Not bad.
"Stronger" sees its biggest gains yet- impressive. And SFTTR takes a nice step toward becoming Adele's third No. 1 airplay hit.

^^When the single is playing on my Itunes it has the single cover, is that what you are asking? I asked the other day if she would be able to have 30 Million AI by Tuesday, I guess so.
Lastly, I still don't understand how video sales from Itunes doesn't contribute to the Hot 100. It should.

And you did pre-order the album, chartfreak, I gather. On my iTunes, it does not show the single cover when I play it. In my music library, it's missing a number of "single" covers, though. Hmmm.
iTunes is the only outlet that sells music videos, so that's why sales do not count.

Yes, I pre-ordered. I'm assuming after the 3 day promotion with the pre-order, I will be able to gift the song on it's own? Hmmm.

Quick question. When days does billboard use to calculate their totals on total AI? I know ITUNES is till Sunday correct? But what about spins and AI and Cause if Kelly keeps having massive gains she could be to or a lil over 60 total in a few days but do they only go till sunday too? Just wondering cause if that's the case Kelly's sales wouldn't need to be so high!

The tracking period for audience-based airplay charts is Wednesday-Tuesday. For spins-based charts, it's Monday-Sunday. The sales week is Monday-Sunday (for digital and physical outlets).

I never thought Madonna would have this kind of airplay reception again in her career. Amazing. HG did she just beat Hung Up's airplay peak in 2 days!?

So my nay-saying about a huge debut was also largely based on the assumption that airplay would be trivial at best.
I can't make up my mind about what's gonna happen!

^"Hung Up's" Mediabase peak was around 31.5 million; on BDS, it was roughly 27 million. The Mediabase Quick-Cut numbers do not include impressions from stations like WKTU in New York, though (as it's classified as Rhythmic AC, which does not appear on the Quick-Cut page).
The track indeed will top "Hung Up's" airplay peak with tomorrow's update. :) Figure the gains reported Tuesday and Wednesday will be a LOT less than the first few days. But, it's still set to make a splashy debut on Hot 100 Airplay. We'll then see what kind of support radio gives it thereafter.
With the airplay, hopefully it debuts inside the top 40 on the Hot 100.
