If you're going to start the new Hot 100 thread, you best include the previous five chart threads. Last Five Threads: 2/18/12, 2/11/12, 2/4/12, 1/28/12, 1/21/12Yay for SFTTR grabbing that No. 1 airplay spot. "Stronger" is blazing right now. One more day of positive gains for GMAYL, and then we'll see three days of big drops.

Congrats to Adele, this is my favorite song on 21 so I'm happy to see it hitting #1 just about everywhere (Radio Songs, Digital Songs, Hot 100, Pop, HAC...eventually on AC...maaayybe on AAA).
How many weeks at #1 on Radio was that for "We Found Love"? Even now that it's dropped, it's barely budging in airplay. HUGE HUGE HUGE hit.

Am I having a memory issue or is it unusually tough to make it into the top 20 right now. You need close to 60m whereas in the past it seemed to be closer to the 50m mark.
What is Kelly Clarkson's highest airplay peak? I'm guessing it was for Since U Been Gone, although maybe MLWSWY could've outdone it.

The top 15 on the Hot 100 is pretty competitive right now- may be a challenge for GMAYL to break into the top 10. The top five tracks look pretty secure. "Domino" is gaining in airplay, but losing sales. "We Are Young" is poised to jump it next week because of the sales boost. Then we have "Sexy and I Know It" gaining in sales again. That leaves "Young Wild and Free" and "Rack City" as top 10 competitors, and a couple below it are gaining in airplay. So, another competitive week coming up.
The airplay loss is the biggest thing, but, if it drops from 44m to, say, 19m, that should at least keep it on the 75-position airplay chart.

Looking very good for a second week at #1 for Kelly. Her airplay dwarfs Fun's. Also, Fun's lead on iTunes might be shrinking, according to the last Kworb update.

Yeah, I'd say Kelly's almost certainly got number 1 in the bag this week with airplay skyrocketing and sales being fairly consistent. However, SFTTR will probably take back the number 1 spot next week (due to Grammy's boost), possibly for multiple weeks. Also, I can't believe MLJ is still top 10 in airplay. I do like the song, but it feels like it's been out forever.

If she gets a similar update tomorrow, Kelly will kick MLJ out of the top 10.

"Stronger" is guaranteed to become her biggest airplay hit then...I'm kind of shocked at the relatively low totals for Since U Been Gone and Behind These Hazel Eyes.

Wow, that's some consistent airplay for Kelly. The radio landscape has changed a lot to be more friendly to her style as well, so Stronger should easily top them all.
P.S. My Madonna prediction for the week is #7. Just want that on the record well in advance. :)

It's really surprising that Kelly only has 3 #1's, even more surprising to know that none of them came from "Breakaway".

Kelly could easily get up to 130 mil AI with CHR/Pop, Hot AC and AC alone. If "Stronger" goes #1 on all 3 formats, she could be getting 130 mil AI without any Rhythmic/Urban love. This would never have happened 5 years ago.

If Breakaway had come out in 2011, it could have had the kind of singles success that Teenage Dream did.

I am not sure it would have had all five hit #1, but I do think a few would have. Katy also benefited from insane airplay which, for pop songs, was more difficult to do in 2005/2006.

Digital sales were much less in 2005 and it was nearly impossible for non-rhythmic songs to get the kind of airplay they would nowadays. There's no doubt in my mind that the first four singles off Breakaway would have reached Top 3, if not #1. And I think "Walk Away" would of at least reached Top 10. They definitely felt much bigger than their chart positions reflected.

Digital sales counted for a larger part of the equation when they were first included in the Hot 100 formula. I think 2/3 of the point value? I'm not quite sure how much it was.

They did count more, but I remember celebrating hysterically when songs passed a million sold like it was a diamond album. Like, a #1 song for the week may have sold 30K lol. It was actually really fun to see the digital market explode so much. In just a few years it went from a relatively teensy aspect of chart life to a major one where numbers are usually higher than airplay.

"Hollaback Girl" being the first song to become a digital million seller caused me to start following the charts. :'(

You really can't say that if digital sales were higher in the past certain singles would have reached number one or charted higher. It wouldn't just effect the songs we like, you know.

You really can't say that if digital sales were higher in the past certain singles would have reached number one or charted higher. It wouldn't just effect the songs we like, you know. No one can say anything for certain, but I disagree that you cannot even speculate. It has nothing to do with liking a song or not as much as it is genre and format based analysis. I think that digital sales truly helped jump start a shift in radio play and formats. For a certain time period, like no pop songs went to #1 because RHY leaning songs always had a huge audience advantage. The increasing power of digital sales led to an immediate shift where, slowly, pop songs or pop-centric songs started going #1 in increasing frequency. Radio play did not change immediately, but once sales data started having more power a pretty quick shift was made that changed both the audience distribution and formats. Furthermore, pop songs tended to do better in sales than urban/RHY centered songs. This is something you can see even today at times. Of course there are always exceptions (I am speaking about trends here), but seeing those shifts happen and looking at the history of the format and the Hot 100 from a genre-based POV leads to a pretty solid ability to say that certain songs WOULD have benefited from the same digital market we have today.

I definitely think Breakaway would've been the Teenage Dream of yesteryear. It's a no-brainer.
