Nicki Minaj, whose performance of "Roman Holiday" at the Grammys drew mixed reviews (to be kind), roars onto the Hot 100 at No. 9 with "Starships," the lead radio single from the rapper's second studio set "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded" (due April 3). The track arrives at No. 7 on Digital Songs (204,000) and No. 72 on Radio Songs (17 million, up 67%).
The bow marks Minaj's first arrival in the Hot 100's top 10 and tops her previous best, set two weeks ago, when Madonna's "Give Me All Your Luvin'," featuring Minaj and M.I.A., opened at No. 13. (After lifting to No. 10 last week, becoming Madonna's record-extending 38th top 10, "Luvin' " plummets to No. 39 this week).

I really look forward to the first performance of this! I wish she had premiered it at the Grammy's. she was really stupid for not performing this on the Grammys , instead she performed that Roman song and it was awfulllllll  I actually really liked 'Roman Holiday'. |

This song may be generic, but it's the cream of the crop in it's field imo. I love it because it shows her diversity and ability to make great straight up dance pop numbers. A lot of people bitched for that very reason, but it's not like rapper Nicki is gone. She is just showing another side of herself and building her brand.

I just can't at you liking that song. It is despicable. Even Nicki knew it was crap which is why she released the better of the songs digitally and performed a crap song for attention. I'm also in love with this tune. It's very bubblegum and I don't consider this rap or hip-hop at ALL, but a good song is a good song. I don't give a damn about what she's supposed to be lol

The whole point of the performance was to get buzz. She knew she'd be criticized and she knew she'd raise some eyebrows, which is why they set to release her ACTUAL single the day after. I think it was a genius move.
I criticized her management and team for releasing a bunch of tracks and not really putting out her single until now, but I guess it makes sense. I just wish the Grammy's would have aired a little sooner so the song would have had more time to build on radio before the record drops, but either way, I think performing RH at the Grammy's and debuting Starships right after was perfect.

Glad you all like it then. I hate it. It's too extreme. Her Pink Friday album was amazing too, so I'd hate to see it (Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded) littered with material like Stupid Hoe. This was my reaction to hearing Roman Holiday being performed at the Grammys:  This was my reaction to Starships after hearing it for the first time after buying it (though I'm a guy and can't move anything near like that):  I definitely need more of the latter. |

This isn't a bad song per se, it just reminds me way too much of Til The World Ends and other such songs. It doesn't stick out as something unique like what Super Bass was at the time.  That said I'd still dance to it.  |

This is going to be THE song of the spring. It's a grower (although it was pretty instant for me), this will slow build into a monster. I can already see it.

Nicki tends to be very hit or miss for me. I regret not charting 2 of her songs (although since I have expanded my chart so that should not happen again). I thought Stupid Hoe and that Roman thing were atrocious, but this I can get into.
