21 GOES FOR 21: After remaining at #1 on today’s HITS’ Album sales chart, XL/Columbia recording artist Adele’s 21 will have its best sales week yet next Tuesday (2/21), the one-year anniversary of the album's release. Early indicators suggest the six-time Grammy winner, in her 52nd week on the chart, will blow past the 399k she achieved during Christmas week 2011. This will also be her 21st week at #1, setting a new record for the Soundscan era and tying MC Hammer's Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em, which logged a pre-Soundscan tally of 21 weeks. Next up are the soundtracks for Purple Rain and Saturday Night Fever, each of which held the #1 spot for 24 weeks in 1984-85 and 1978, respectively. Meanwhile, the British tabloids claim the U.K. songbird wants to take a five-year break from her career to spend more time with her Grammy companion, beau Simon Konecki. (2/14p)

I'm blown away.
7 million copies in a year. Who would have thought it possible.

I don't blame her. This last year has been nothing but overwhelming for her. 5yrs may be too much, but I understand. It's apparent she doesn't want to be in the spotlight 24/7.

This is going to be the #1 album of the Billboard year... again.

When's the last time an album was #1 for the year for two years in a row?

WTF.
This can't be possible...
Then again, the Grammys were their second highest rated this year, ever, and she and Whitney were the two big stories surrounding the Grammys.
Still, this just seems impossible. She's defying everything anyone predicted would happen this decade in terms of album sales.

When's the last time an album was #1 for the year for two years in a row? It's been posted before that it's only happened once - Thriller.

Yes. No one would have predicted a year ago today that she would take the crown for 2011. Anything can happen.
But man, it sure is a fun ride. :)

We really should not be surprised at anything that has to do with Ms. Adkins' sales.

Wow - blockbuster album for sure
#1 for this year? I agree we Mr. Jump , long way to go
MC Hammer was a 1990 release so this will tie for the longest run at #1 of the 90s, 00s or 10s

This means 21 will pass 1 million sold for 2012 next week! It really does look more and more likely that she'll have the #1 of this year too. But anything can happen, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Don't forget Billboard's year starts the first week of December. All of her huge sales leading up to Christmas count towards 2012's year-end #1.

Yeah I suppose I posted a Billboard year update a couple weeks back, at that point Michael Buble was #1 and Adele was a close second. Both were hovering around 2 million No other contenders. Michael Buble won't chart again until October

I wonder if she can score 25 weeks, and top Purple Rain? So exciting to see it competing with such legendary Pop albums.

We are premature in decalring Adele the winner of Calendar Year 2012 but a repeat on Billboard Year looks possible

Declaration vs. prediction -- 2 different things!
I like a good bold prediction but am totally willing to admit I could easily be wrong.

Don't forget Billboard's year starts the first week of December. All of her huge sales leading up to Christmas count towards 2012's year-end #1. We *always* use the calendar year for the best selling album of 2012. Never Billboard...

I wonder if she can score 25 weeks, and top Purple Rain? So exciting to see it competing with such legendary Pop albums. This IS a legendary pop album. 23 weeks seems to be in the bag, but in what would be her 24th week, Bruce Springsteen's got a big release, so we'll see.
