With the lead Fun has, looks like it'll be #1 for the next like 5-6 weeks, so it's going to stay be a bit dull for a while. Bieber's lead single is out next week. I doubt it'll go #1, but top 5 debut perhaps? I need Ke$ha's lead single in my life already :'(

+ Nobody cared anymore when r&b went out of fashion in 2005. That must be the reason Mariah Carey had the best selling album of the year and biggest Hot 100 hit of the year.

Blige's Be Without You year after. But how many r&b stars have been big single sellers since digital downloads become part of the chart formula? Of course there are exceptions, such as Alicia Keys with No One, but the superstar league aside r&b doesn't really sell singles.

But how many r&b stars have been big single sellers since digital downloads become part of the chart formula? Neither Mariah nor Mary had massive digital sellers, yet Mariah's album sold 5 million and Mary's sold 3 million. Digital single sales aren't the sole measure of popularity, especially when you consider you need a computer, an Internet connection, and a credit card to make the purchases. R&B does mot have the same appeal to white suburbanites that pop, rock, and (in the past couple of decades) rap have. Digital single sales are not an overall representation of popularity.

But would've Foolish been number one for zillion weeks if sales volume had been as big as it is now?
We will never know. Probably not.
That's why I said r&b went out of fashion. But it went radically out of fashion only on Hot 100. It did made some room for other genres too though, mostly electronic pop.

Albums like Emancipation of Mimi appealed to more than just R&B radio, though- had the hits just been at R&B, the album probably would not have sold as it did.

It would be so naive of them not to eventually release this to Itunes...

I gather the label did not push "Birthday Cake" to pop radio, and rather focused on "Talk the Talk"? But, then again, TTT is top 10 at rhythmic and top 20 at urban, too.

^No- NeRD meant that the label should release the mix to iTunes. Though without pop airplay, not sure it would sell as well as some other "Rih-mixes."

Wonder how much of a difference there will be now between Mediabase and BDS numbers. We get to find out today! I also wonder how close Adele and Kelly will be, and if there will be a chance of maybe getting Kelly #1 on airplay next week or not...

Wonder how much of a difference there will be now between Mediabase and BDS numbers. Don't know but either way it looks like fun. get a 3rd consecutive week at #1. Almost 350k...that's damn impressive for a group and song that practically nobody knew about just a few short months ago.

In spite of charting well digitally in many countries and garnering a cult following of attention through YouTube...........it just doesn't seem like radio wants to make Jason Mraz's latest single a hit. I'm starting to feel I'll be proven wrong, after all, about it being a large radio hit because of its emotional accessibility (it doesn't sound like a catchy song whatsoever, but I felt it would pull heartstrings and become a hit that way) Train's latest has suddenly stalled at Mainstream Top 40 as well. That is even more baffling to me, considering it is in the digital Top Ten here and on numerous charts abroad, and unlike "I Won't Give Up" is actually insanely catchy. Has mainstream radio really become THAT fickle toward acts with Adult Top 40 histories, regardless of how hot they are digitally? Namaste, lisping HIBISCUS

Dance and upbeat have become so prominent on CHR radio now that unless you are an Adele or an indie type act (fun, Gotye), you pretty much have no chance for a high peak on the format anymore. I listen at times and when there's four or five dance or upbeats in a row, its even tough to switch to a slower paced Adele even though she's conquering everything right now.

So, this will be interesting to see if the math holds up at all anymore for calculating positions:
fun 349 + 84 = 433 Kelly 162 + 161 = 323 Wanted 183 + 97 = 280 Nicki 172 + 57 = 229 Katy 114 + 101 = 215 Gotye 166 + 46 = 212 Flo 158 + 54 = 212 Train 125 + 51 = 176 OD 135 + 26 = 161 Carly 123 + ? = 125?

Don't forgot about the big airplay ones ~ SFTTR, Take Care and Turn Me On. They should all still be top 10.
