There's no way 95% or more of the albums released today would sell 2 million in the long run. First name Adele, last name Adkins, probably is a shoo-in, though. Heck, even the last album from one of the biggest pop stars of the last few years- that scanned 1.1 million in its debut week- is just now going to cross 2.2 million.

This is my bottom line on this; if you have to redeem the ticket to get the album, what's wrong? It's not like Madonna and her record company are "tricking" anybody into buying the album who may not want it. All the redemptions will be from people who clearly took the extra step to redeem it so I assume they really wanted the album.
So what's the problem?
This isn't like the Prince situation at all.

So for this frankly BS argument about Madonna "cheating," she would have to have sold almost 160,000 albums through ticket redemptions for this to be "stealing" #1. Pretty sure that's not the case.

"an extra step" for free should not count as a regular sale

br, no "cheating" involved. And no "giveaways"- doesn't happen in the world of business. The costs are always included somewhere, and in this instance, it's the ticket prices. They would never tell you that, of course, because they want people to believe they're getting something complimentary, when, in fact, they're not. But, I'll leave that to the business specialists to expand on. :)

HITS
MADGE OF HONOR Lionel Richie, Shinedown and The Used Debut Top 10
April 3, 2012
The Material Girl scores some material gains this week, as Interscope dance-floor diva Madonnaβs 12th studio album, MDNA, debuts at #1 with 357k in sales.
That proves enough to top legendary crooner Lionel Richieβs Mercury Nashville debut, Tuskegee, a collection of his greatest hits sung with country stars Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker, Rascal Flatts, Shania Twain, Tim McGraw, Willie Nelson, Jimmy Buffett and Kenny Chesney, among others, which debuts at #2 with a surprising total of 200k.
Atlantic veteran rockers Shinedown return with Amaryllis, the next highest debut at #4, with 104k. The other Top 10 newcomer is Hopelessβ The Used album, Vulnerable, distributed through Mike Harrisβ EMI Label Services, at #7, with 28k.
XL/Columbiaβs Adele 21 (#3) and Universal Republicβs The Hunger Games soundtrack (#5) round out the Top 5, while Syco/Columbiaβs One Direction (#6), Capitol/EMI pop thrush Katy Perryβs deluxe Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection (#7), Columbiaβs Bruce Springsteen (#9) and Capitol Nashville/EMIβs Luke Bryan (#16-10, +38%) complete the Top 10.
Other Top 50 newcomers include Warner Bros.β Mars Volta (#15), Interscopeβs All-American Rejects (#17), Mercuryβs My Darkest Days (#29), Nuclear Blast Americaβs Meshugga (#40), Nickelodeon/Legacyβs Fresh Beat Band: Music From the TV Show (#42), Universal Republicβs James Newton Howard Hunger Games score (#43) and two E-40 Block Brochure albums on the indie Heavy on Grindels label through EMI Label Services with Vol. 1 at #49 and Vol. 2 at #50. Along with Vol. 3, which just missed the Top 50, the Block Brochure trilogy combined to sell 25k, not counting a digital three-pack, which is also available.
Perry returns to the Top 50, along with Mercury Nashville/Interscopeβs Scotty McCreery (#19), Capitol/EMIβs David Guetta (#35) and Warner Bros. Nashvilleβs Blake Shelton (#37).
Sensibility Musicβs The Civil Wars leads the double-digit gainers, moving #44-32, +52%, followed by Universal Republicβs Florence + the Machine (#50-38, +33%), Capitol Nashville/EMIβs Eric Church (#29-25, +27%), RCA Nashvilleβs Miranda Lambert (#48-41, +27%) and Republic Nashvilleβs The Band Perry (#46-45, +19%).
Big releases this week include YM/CM/Universal Republicβs Nicki Minaj and Of Monsters and Men, Big Machineβs Rascal Flatts and Verityβs Marvin Sapp.

Personally, I think they should count either way -- considering selling an album for $3.99 is okay by the rules, getting an album as part of a $350 ticket purchase certainly seems fair to me.

^Not the only one, though. People should be celebrating the Power of Madonna. Scoring a No. 1 album, a top 10 hit in this day and age- regardless of longevity- and bound to pack em in during her concert tour. Still slaying at 53 years old. :'(

Like I said before, I learned a long time ago to ignore asg4.
But, the album will have redemptions this week. Depends on when the concert-goer redeems this album. IF they redeem the album...

So amusing, asg. Just like Michael Jackson at the Super Bowl- and some others. I mean, really now. Posters should try to keep their personal dislike for the discussed act out of discussions such as this.

What is it with this guy and releasing albums in tandem? I understand that he's simultaneously put out pairs of albums before, and this time he released THREE LPs on the same day. Does this really work for him as a marketing tactic?
... Not that anyone cares about E-40 on this forum.

Your a hater and not being objective. MusicST while I disagree with I respect his opinion and do not think he is a hater. But ASG you are so transparent because you bring things in to the conversation that is irrelevant or complete assumption. If you want your opinion to be respected or taken serious you should stop with all the rhetoric. You throw around the word cheat all the time but you seem to not know what it means. You cannot cheat if your are complying with rules. Cheating is to break the rules and Madonna is not doing that.

And, no, j74- E40 isn't exactly seeing great success as of late, so I'd say it's not workjng for him.
