Prince concert cd increased his total by 1 million but that album also sold over a million Actually Prince's concert CDs were giveaways. The concertgoer didn't need to redeem it, it was automatic. Madonna's system is different. The sales only count if hte customer CHOOSES to redeem them. And it's not very common apparently. So that doesn't fully explain why her total is higher than expected. The Super Bowl and big pre-order sales, however, do.

Really great numbers for Madonna. Glad to see she will eaisly get a gold album
All American Rejects numbers very dissapointing, i know no hit single but still...we may not hear much from them again
I wonder where Katy Perry will end up.
Also for those wondering if/when Adele will come back on top, she ll prbly stay over 100k for several more weeks as long as RHI keeps steady and increasing. she ll prbly get the spot back eventually when there isnt a big release

Extremely impressive numbers for Madonna--easily double of what I was expecting. And here I was expecting her to fall short of scanning 500k overall.

The only downside with Madonna is the concert/pre-order stuff will mean a STEEP 2nd week drop. Probably more than 70% drop.

Werque I really was aiming for 250k but these are amazing estimates. Gold in 2 weeks and another platinum album for sure. The Queen betta show dem lessors how to do it. Shipments...no1curr if it crosses 1M. It just needs to ship 1M. At this point in her career certs over exact sales. Platinum is doubtful without a hit single.

I hope billboard gives a breakdown of redemptions /pre-orders

Very great number. I think most people didn't predict the album to hit 300k, considering no big single and limited promo, although Superbowl was definitely a big promo. Still curious about CD singles redeemed from concert tickets. Madonna has become more as an album artist than a single artist since American Life era, 4 Minutes was just an exception of her big single thanks to Justin and the songs's young appeal.

I wouldn't get too excited.
The singles from the album are all bombing BIG TIME on iTunes.
Girl Gone Wild #83 Give Me All Your Luvin #84
It's an extremely poor showing to not have a single album track charting in the Top 200.
Madonna fans should enjoy for now because this one is gonna plummet worse than Hard Candy.

^Who gives a rat's arse how much it plummets? Who expects Madonna- at 53- to keep scoring hit single after hit single in the USA, or even have long-lasting albums success? The fact that she can still command a very nice opening in sales, and score top 10 hits at all (regardless of longevity) is muy impressive. Long live Her Madgesty, the Queen of Pop. And, by the by- why do some not talking about physical sales? I'm sure we'll see a breakdown of physical, digital, etc. etc. Hard Candy scanned 207,000 physical units upon its release (+73,000 digital).

The redemptions can happen at any time throughout the tour, no? I mean, if I buy tickets next week and redeem, they are still counted. Not sure what you mean by the "redemptions are done in one week"?

Not sure what you mean by the "redemptions are done in one week"? Yes redemptions can happen any time for billboard purposes but madonna has set this sunday as the last day to redeem. From Ticketmaster: "You're entitled to one CD or Download of Madonna's new "MDNA" album for each ticket you purchased, at no additional cost. Redeem all your album(s) by April 1st for a chance to WIN 2 pit tickets and see the show from the best spot in the house. 50 pit tickets to your show will be given away!"

Well, I take that two ways. Either that's a deadline to redeem at all...or just a deadline to win the pit tickets?
Has HITS ever been way off in terms of projections...I mean can this come in at 290K, very possible, right.

tickets redemptions throughout the year (as many have not bought tickets yet, or have not redeemed them) could possibly boost the album a little bit week-to-week. Won't have much effect, no, but every sale counts. It's better than nothing.

Hits estimated 325K+ so that would indicate a very strong chance of it staying above 300K even if it ends up selling 310 instead of 325. Of course, nothing is absolute until final numbers come in.

yeah if anything (very low end) this is still looking like a 300k selling album. Its happened- where theyd been WAY off but rare. My gut is telling me shelll be around 305-310, not 325k. Hope Im wrong though. Just want it over 300k. #1 PLUS 300k will ignite the internet and media and maybe make Piers Morgan attempt Russian Roullette lol. Yes, many of us wouldnt be surprised if she nosedives the 2nd week, but its to be expected, but the media rarely zones in on 2nd week drops - its ALL abt. that #1 SMASH debut week! =)

It'll probably be a steep drop - I hope it doesn't get into the 70% range though.

Simply amazing that with no hit single or promotion apart from the Superbowl two months ago she debuts higher than Beyonce, Britney, Katy, Rihanna, Bieber, Ke$ha, etc.

It's all worked into the ticket prices- I mean, paying for two top-notch tickets (not via brokers) sets one back some $760, after all. Ten bucks or so for an album easily could be worked into that. And from what I hear, it's the non-explicit version of the album that ticket buyers are getting? And, plus- aren't album redemptions supposed to be pretty low? I'm most interested in seeing what the sales are via outlets like Best Buy, Target, FYE, etc.- the physical outlets. Plus, of course, the digital total, which will include the pre-orders.

Uh. That's almost double what I was expecting. Damn. And the reviews haven't even been that good... The reviews have been mostly positive. Great news for M. www.metacritic.com/music/mdnaGenerally favorable. Lot of mixed reviews though. My local paper gave it 1.5 stars. P.S. Hard Candy is ranked slightly higher on metacritic than MDNA.
