The numbers were depressing LAST year when albums were at #1 in the 40k range. that was crazy. :o

"The act's last studio album, 2009's "Save Me, San Francisco," debuted and peaked at No. 17 with a 27,000 first week according to SoundScan"
It's impressive how it started with just 27k and over time sold 900k+. Hey, Soul Sister really helped it a lot as well as moderated chart performers If It's Love and Marry Me to keep sales afloat

Did Hey Soul Sister not smash until after the album came out? I'm surprised it debuted so low on the Billboard 200 unless the single didn't become a hit until after. Needless to say, this new one will make up for it.

Needless to say, this new one will make up for it. I think the album was out for a good 6 months before "Hey, Soul Sister" took off. The album was out in October 2009, and I don't think HSS really did much until Spring of 2010.

Mraz must be doing well in digital sales because his physical sales aren't looking so hot. Weekend is a big time for WalMart customers but Richie is doing well ahead of everyone right now.

Train, Future Set For Top 10 on Billboard 200
April 20, 2012 | By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles
While Jason Mraz and Lionel Richie are still duking it out for No. 1 next week on the Billboard 200 albums chart, rock band Train and rapper Future are headed for the top 10.
Mraz and Richie are gunning for the top slot next week with their respective "Love is a Four Letter Word" and "Tuskegee" albums. Both sets are going to sell perhaps around 100,000 to 110,000 copies each, industry prognosticators say.
If Mraz tops the list, it will mark his first No. 1 album. He's gone as high as No. 3 with 2008's "We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things." Richie's "Tuskegee" jumped to No. 1 last week on the chart for the first time, selling 129,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The new Billboard 200 chart's top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Wednesday, April 25.
Train's "California 37" may debut around Nos. 4 or 5 with 70,000 sold. It could result in the band's highest-charting album yet. The act has reached No. 6 twice previously, with "Drops of Jupiter" in 2001 and "My Private Nation" in 2003. Train's last studio album, "Save Me, San Francisco" (2009) debuted and peaked at No. 17 with a 27,000 first week, according to SoundScan.
A newcomer to the top 10 next week might be rapper Future, whose debut studio album "Pluto" may sell somewhere in the range of 30,000 to 40,000. He's released numerous mixtapes since 2010 and has notched eight hit singles on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Two of those climbed all the way into the top 10: "Racks" (YC featuring Future, No. 6) and "Magic" (No. 10). His most recent entry as a lead artist was "Same Damn Time," which rises 31-22 this week.
On Nielsen SoundScan's Building chart (below), Mraz and Train are at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, while Adele's "21" is in third place. Richie's "Tuskegee" is No. 4 while Future is No. 5. The Building tally is a precursor to the final Billboard 200 ranking -- reflecting the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week as reported by six major merchants.
Don't be misled by the order of the titles in the top five of the Building Chart. Due to how its compiled, the ranking can sometimes be deceiving. For example, Mraz may have an early lead thanks to banked pre-orders via iTunes, while Richie will certainly have a boost in sales over the weekend from big box retailers. Once next week's official Billboard 200 chart rolls in, Mraz and Richie should be dueling for Nos. 1 or 2.
As for the rest of the Building Chart: One Direction's "Up All Night" follows at No. 6, Nicki Minaj's "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded" is No. 7 and Thousand Foot Krutch's "End Is Where We Begin" is No. 8. Rounding out the top 10 on the Building Chart is Bonnie Raitt's "Slipstream" and Monica's "New Life" at Nos. 9 and 10. Nielsen SoundScan Building Chart
Rank LW BB 200 Artist Title
1 NEW Jason Mraz "Love Is a Four Letter Word" 2 NEW Train "California 37" 3 2 Adele "21" 4 1 Lionel Richie "Tuskegee" 5 NEW Future "Pluto" 6 5 One Direction "Up All Night" 7 3 Nicki Minaj "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded" 8 NEW Thousand Foot Krutch "End Is Where We Begin" 9 6 Bonnie Raitt "Slipstream" 10 4 Monica "New Life"
The Building Chart reflects the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week (which ends Sunday) as reported by six major merchants: iTunes, Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Starbucks, Target and Anderson Merchandisers. Billboard estimates that they make up about 85% of all U.S. album sales.

I think it will be interesting to see how John Mayer does. I know he had to postpone his tour but will he be able to do any TV to promote the album? I still expect him to be in the 100,000-130,000 range. Again, a large, loyal fanbase. I can't see it doing much better than that. There isn't a lot of good will considering his last album was mediocre (this is coming from a mega fan). Plus, I do not believe he can do any promo that involves speaking because of his throat condition (ala Adele).

I wouldn't be surprised if no other singles get released. I would expect the album to open well (125K, maybe), but then not have much longevity.

I also think the bigger issue was their previous album had bombed and contained no singles that reached the Hot 100. It was definitely a comeback for them.

I'm a little bummed by the Nicki Minaj numbers so far. She truly had the potential to become even bigger but the album is really weak and I guess that's why her fanbase isn't responding to it.

It's not THAT weak but definitely a disappointment after PF.
Also, can't stop moaning about the horrendous title.

Unless things change with SoundScan- for instance, HITS did have Richie's second-week numbers some 5K higher than SoundScan. But, I'd think Tuskegee will hang onto the top for a second week.

7K is a big difference between #1 and #2, seems pretty conclusive, although the difference may fluctuate.

I thought TFK would at least be top 10, but top 20 will be fine with me.
