Just saying that history suggests otherwise.

The only Idol finalists that have produced hits past one or two albums have been Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson (maybe Daughtry but even he seems to be on the decline)

His controversial persona may generate some interest but it hasn't yet, at least not to the point where we are seeing his name on the pop singles chart right next to Kelly Clarkson

"Call Me Maybe" might be able to move up to #3 and pass FUN this week. Its been selling 2x as much as "We Are Young" and its BDS airplay is roughly 70 million apart.

Fantasia had a big hit on her main format on her third album. A lot of others arnt really on their third album yet, so its hard to judge.

Over on the Digital Songs chart, the top three are non-movers this week, led by Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" at No. 1 with 321,000 (down 8%). The song, which features Kimbra, crosses the 4 million sales mark this week -- rising to 4.04 million downloads sold in the U.S.

At No. 2, Maroon 5's "Payphone" (featuring Wiz Khalifa) sells 293,000 (up 2%) while Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" is at No. 3 with 234,000 (up 12%).

Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" rises 5-4 (165,000; down 4%), fun.'s "We Are Young" (featuring Janelle Monae) is down one to No. 5 (164,000; down 12%) and Nicki Minaj's "Starships" sails 7-6 (151,000; up 3%).

Flo Rida's "Wild Ones" (featuring Sia) is up two rungs to No. 7 (150,000; up 8%), One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful" drops 6-8 (146,000; down 3%) and Jennifer Lopez's "Dance Again" (featuring Pitbull) zips 15-9 (104,000; up 39%). The latter benefits from J.Lo's performance of the track on "American Idol's" May 10 episode.

The Wanted's "Glad You Came" closes out the top 10 on the Digital Songs chart, holding at No. 10 with 95,000 (down 21%).

Digital track sales this past week totaled 24.96 million downloads, down 2% compared to last week (25.41 million) and up 1% stacked next to the comparable week of 2011 (24.79 million). Year to date track sales are at 520.35 million, up 7% compared to the same total at this point last year (487.16 million).

It's somewhere in between 4,351,000 and 4,495,000. I know that's a weird range, but it's the best I can do given what Paul Grein's given us

EDIT: Nevermind, he's given us more than I thought. The actual number is 4,429,000.

EDIT: Gotye, meanwhile, is somewhere between 4,017,000 and 4,170,000.

The gap, therefore, is between 259,000 and 412,000.

This is the first week this year where the entire top 10 digital songs isn't over 100k. Last time was the chart dated Dec 31, 2011; and that was just before the gift card weeks.

Train's 'Drive By' Completes Trip to Hot 100's Top 10

The song pulls into the chart's top bracket, completing the longest climb to the top 10 this year

Train's "Drive By" chugs into the Billboard Hot 100's top 10 at last, while Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know," featuring Kimbra, spends a fifth week at No. 1.



"Drive" motors 11-10 on the Hot 100, marking the chart's longest ascent to the top 10 this year. It completes the slowest climb to the top tier since Lupe Fiasco's "The Show Goes On" reached the region in its 21st frame the week of June 4, 2011.



"Drive" marks Train's third Hot 100 top 10. The San Francisco band sent "Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)" to No. 5 in 2001. Almost nine years later, the group returned to the top 10 with "Hey, Soul Sister," which rose to No. 3 in April 2010. With 5.9 million downloads sold, the latter song is the best-selling digital single by a rock band since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking download sales in 2003.



Train Tries To Follow A Massive Hit -- Again -- on 'California 37'



Now, Train is back in the top 10 after a wait of less than just two years.



"Drive" bullets at No. 13 for a second week on the Radio Songs airplay chart with 59 million all-format audience impressions (up 4%), according to Nielsen BDS; dips 11-12 on Digital Songs with 92,000 downloads sold in the May 7-13 tracking week (down 2%), according to SoundScan; and, holds at No. 13 on the On-Demand Songs chart with 508,000 on-demand streams (down 5%), according to BDS.



Gotye's "Somebody," meanwhile, remains in charge of the Hot 100 for a fifth week. It passes Bruno Mars' "Grenade" (four weeks at No. 1 in January/February 2011) and "Just the Way You Are" (four weeks, October 2010) for the longest reign by a lead solo male artist since Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie," featuring Rihanna, led for seven weeks in the summer of 2010.



"Somebody" gains on Radio Songs, where it holds at No. 2 (132 million, up 7%), while remaining atop Digital Songs (321,000, down 8%) and On-Demand Songs (1.3 million, down 8%).



Maroon 5's "Payphone," featuring Wiz Khalifa, rises 3-2 on the Hot 100 after spending its first three weeks at No. 3. The song scores top Streaming Gainer honors, pushing 4-2 on On-Demand Songs (1 million, up 19%). It remains at No. 2 on Digital Songs (293,000, up 2%), while jumping 11-10 on Radio Songs (67 million, up 16%) in just its fourth week on the list. It's the group's fastest ascent to the Radio Songs top 10 and the quickest among all acts since Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" also needed just four frames to crack the top 10 in July 2011.

Fun.'s "We Are Young," featuring Janelle Monae, drops 2-3 after logging six weeks atop the Hot 100 in March and April, while Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" stays static at No. 4 but adds the chart's top Airplay Gainer tag, thanks to an 18-12 vault on Radio Songs (61 million, up 27%). The track maintains its No. 3 rank on Digital Songs (23 million, up 12%) and slips 3-4 on On-Demand Songs, although with a 1% increase to 1 million on-demand streams.



Flo Rida's "Wild Ones," featuring Sia, rounds out the Hot 100's top five at No. 5 for a second week. The collaboration climbs 4-3 on Radio Songs (106 million, up 3%) and 9-7 on Digital Songs (150,000, up 8%), while remaining at No. 9 on On-Demand Songs (686,000, down 4%).



Closing out the Hot 100's top 10 above Train's "Drive," Nicki Minaj's No. 5-peaking "Starships" rebounds 7-6; One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful" rises 9-7 after peaking at No. 4; the Wanted's former No. 3 hit "Glad You Came" slips 6-8; and, Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" slides 8-9.

That was my point, using the same producers one of them has so much more success initally. I know it makes sense due to Usher having been in the industry a lot loner, being more popular, etc. But it still irks me because it means that the only openly gay male artist we have right now in the mainstream is going to get dropped after his album flops.
