After a few listens, this for me is her best to date. Only dislike Jewels, enjoy Dope, but the rest I am obsessed with. What a brilliant, fun, quirky and yummy record. It's coherent, experimental and different from your run of the mill pop album.
Contender for best pop album of the year, for me at least. So many high lights. And her voice. I love that it's so raw. She's in fine form. I hope the success of the album and following singles will be up there. The Fame may be a career highlight sales wise but I really hope this does well enough for people to consider it a success.

And side bar: love that a few weeks ago people threw shade at BYW but now that this is released, BTW is their favorite record. Only weeks ago the same people were saying that about the Fame versus BTW.

Not surprised will all the "B" reviews, to be honest. I love Gaga but I have to say, after many listens, it is nowhere near as good as BTW (IMO). I still like it a lot but I don't expect it to get much better reviews than BTW. That being said, I think it might be more of a commercial success than BTW. I agree. I listened to ARTPOP and BTW back to back and I was amazed at how much more innovative, and progressive BTW was. It's a much better album. But at the same time, they both sound almost exactly the same sonically. The songs from both albums are all interchangeable.

This review is pretty much spot on. I agree that she's basically all about the fans now and is not taking steps forward. Then again it was just all assumption that she had a million ideas in her. The album is growing on me a lot, but I am glad I wasn't the only who noticed that Fashion=Holiday.

I am not getting the lack of love on Fashion! I think it's a song unlike anything she's done before and I could totally see it being played in department stores. I have to say my least favorite track on the album is Donatella.

This album feels like it showcases her personality better. It feels like a Gaga record. I loved it, its my favorite Gaga album. But, I wonder if its too weird for the general public?

^ NO to 'Swine' as a single. Replace it with 'Sexxx Dreams' and that line-up is ace.

Billboard says MANiCURE is an obvious single choice...what? I would actually love to see it as a fifth single after G.U.Y and Gypsy, it's such a fun song.

I just hope she doesn't put out 'Aura' and 'Venus' as singles.

Billboard says MANiCURE is an obvious single choice... Just no. It's a great song, but would not work as a single. 1. Applause 2. Do What U Want 3. G.U.Y. 4. Gypsy 5. Sexxx Dreams Swine can be a club-only track, since it's another perfect song that wouldn't work as a single.

I think it would be a huge dance smash. IMO, "Swine" is the "Government Hooker" of the era. It's got a very distinctive hard hitting sound that many of her die hard fans (such as myself) will love, but I can't see it making significant impact as a single. It would be a cool club single though.

I think Swine has a more simplistic message and it's an EDM club BANGER. Just my opinion. I just don't see Sexxx Dreams, or really GUY, performing any better.

'Swine' would flop hard. It has very little commercial appeal compared to some of the other songs on the album.

I don't know where to begin, I love this album so much.
Every song is a favorite, but I really love ARTPOP, G.U.Y., MANiCURE, Venus, DWYW, and Fashion!.
My only complaints are that the "here heeee's" that she slayed at the iTunes performance were louder and more prevalent, and that I had waited to hear the album as a whole.

Then they can send it out as a club single and release 'Sexxx Dreams' as the true third single. There- best of both worlds.

Two things:
- Born This Way is absolutely fantastic. It's way better than the crappy, dated The Fame.
- I'm not listening to ARTPOP yet but I find decidedly mixed initial reaction somewhat unusually prevalent. Anyone notice how it's now subsiding and the album is being received much more warmly from when it first leaked? Happy to hear about it.
I'm most excited to hear Gypsy (The Edge of Glory is one of my favorite Pop songs of all time), GUY, and Venus. DWYW is brilliant and one of my favorite songs of the year, I hope it's not the highlight though!

I find it bizarre that now everyone seems to love BTW. I though the general consensus was that she got "too weird" and it was messy and incoherent and far, far below the quality of the first two cds. I love BTW too so I am happy to see it getting so much loving!!! I am almost ready to write my actual review too. I know everyone has been waiting for it ;)

^ I thought the same thing. I remember everyone hating on Born This Way since it came out. Maybe it was a grower on many and now people love it. I loved it shortly after it came out. It took a few days to grow on me but I love all the songs on it minus Americano.
This is extremely random by the way but does anyone know why Gaga always calls her tours the "____ Ball tour"? Such as the "Fame Ball" "Monster Ball" and "Born This Way Ball"? Just curious.

Swine would flop. I think it's extremely jarring even if I like the beat. The lyrics suck and I don't feel it at all. It's a filler, nothing more, even Dope is about to overtake it in my personal rankings of ARTPOP songs.
As for MANiCURE, I think Billboard was right. It's catchy and it could work as a single well. I am confident that people will enjoy hearing or seeing this being performed at concerts. But I would rather if Gypsy (3rd) and G.U.Y. (4th) were released in that order before they decide to release MANiCURE or something else (ARTPOP or Dontaella or is that just wishful thinking?)
I don't think they should release Sexxx Dreams. I don't know, I LOVE the song but I don't want it as a single, especially since G.U.Y. is extremely sexual and two sexual singles in a row is ehhhhhh. So for that, my vote goes for G.U.Y. as the fourth single and MANiCURE for the fifth single. It also shows diversity from ARTPOP and that Gaga has something to offer to different people.

I too am against Sexxx Dreams as being an official single EVER for many reasons: 1) Many stations will play the censored X Dreams clean version (just take a look at what happened to Britney's "Work Work") 2) The content of the song: I just can't see the average listened being thrilled about the "Damn you were in my sex dreams, doing really nasty things" hook. 3) The melody of the song isn't that strong. 4) It's one of the weaker moments on ARTPOP, imo.

I don't see Sexx Dreams or Swine as potential singles. I am just not sure what I would stick 5th (Assuming Gypsy and GUY follow DWUW).

I don't get the love for Sex Dreams. It's nice, but not strong enough to be a single imo.
DWYW was a great single choice and "G.U.Y." NEEDS to be a single. The chorus on "Venus" is catchy as fuck and "Aura" could do well if the intro was edited out.
Those, plus "Artpop" and "Swine", are my top 6.

First thoughts......this is a really noisy album. She's trying to hybrid so many sounds and concepts that it feels disjointed and lacks focus. It's like she threw everything into a pot, stirred it once or twice and is saying, "Hey guys, this is art, buy it!".
I really like Gaga as a performance artist but she's terrible at execution. She's like an art school student who has yet to effectively connect and translate her inner expression.
There are performers who have done Art & Music really well, i.e., Lou Reed, David Bowie, Annie Lennox, Elton John, Grace Jones....and despite the magnitude of her success, I find it hard giving her latitude in comparison those artists. I understand that we've had decades to absorb and intellectually consider their contributions but somehow Gaga comes across as trying too hard. She lacks authenticity in my opinion.
