Does anyone else think Gypsy sounds very similar to something? I'm not sure, but I think I'm thinking of Alice by Avril Lavigne TONIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIiiiiiiIIIIIIIIIIIIiIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIiiIIiiIIght IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIiiiiiiIIIIIIIIIIIIiIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIiiIIiiII'll get byyy
My ranking so far:Applause Do What U Want Aura G.U.Y Sexxx Dreams Venus | <-- Flawless |
Gypsy Donatella Swine | <-- Good |
I can't rank the rest yet, I haven't had time to listen to them much because I've been listening to the other 9

I think Gypsy sounds a lot like Marry The Night.
Jewels n' Drugs is actually quite enjoyable after several listens. It initially threw me off because it sounds out of place alongside the other tracks, but it's still a jam. Dope has grown on me too. And Aura is the perfect album opener. Totally goes alongside her iTunes festival proclamation that she had to take off all the wigs and costumes and show her vulnerability, which she does on this record.

1. Applause 2. G.U.Y. 3. DWYW 4. Jewels n' Drugs 5. Aura
Honestly I don't really hate any of the rest but the middle stretch of the album definitely gets a little same-y for me so it's hard for me to rank them. I do like Donatella and Venus more than I did initially. Gypsy also is highly overrated to me.

The album is growing on me more, but still don't LOVE it. One thing that did strike me about the song "Fashion!" is that it does sound a lot like "Holiday" by Madonna. Please don't all flame out at me, because this is not about Madonna stanning from me at all. They keyboard line just sounds a lot like it, take a listen.
In the song she sings about being on top of the world, owning the world, etc. Madonna famously said that she wants to "rule the world" after performing Holiday on American Bandstand. Maybe Gaga is taking a dig at Madonna because Madonna took digs at her on her MDNA tour?
Either way, I do like the song..very catchy.

I really think Fashion! sounds like something Fergie would release. It's got this laidback vibe and that background piano adds to it.

"But this love's not material" She's definitely sending some subliminals. And you're right, the chords are almost identical to Holiday.

Lady Gaga | ARTPOP 5.8/10
Not too long ago, Lady Gaga was on a mission to become the face of social justice with her sophomore album, Born This Way. Unfortunately, the record was less about "it gets better" and more about herself. Not surprising for a woman who's debut was built around her insatiable lust for fame, but the record was almost paradoxical in nature; confusing several different messages hidden amidst a grossly overproduced album. The biggest problem was such: she had no idea what she was doing.
Unfortunately, that hasn't changed in the two years it took her to record her latest offering: ARTPOP. The title is stylized in all caps because, according to Gaga, "it's all about the details", which is probably a smart message to send out as looking at the entire body of work leaves a lot to be desired. The details are there, they just aren't pulled together. But the good news is, she did learn something from Born This Way. ARTPOP doesn't try to be anything bigger than it is: it's just a collection of songs. For an artist like Gaga, that's probably the best thing she could have done for herself.
Songs like the self-produced 'Venus', 'Do What U Want'-- which benefits greatly from the R. Kelly assist-- and album highlight 'G.U.Y.' serve to give ARTPOP something of a pulse. Zedd, thankfully going back to his 'Autonomy' roots on cuts like 'Swine', manages to create some of the best moments here. Album closer 'Applause' ends the record on a much appreciated high note.
That said, album opener and anthem to cultural appropriation, 'Aura'-- an unfortunate case of a song who's demo outshines the final product-- suffers from gutted verses and messy structure that may very well be the most appropriate introduction possible. 'Manicure', and the non-song 'Jewels n' Drugs', an utterly bizarre Frankenstein of EDM and trap, are as unnecessary as they are revolting. When Gaga isn't competing with the backing instrumental, often more interesting than whatever she's wailing anyway, the music itself seems to be trying to do several different things at once. It's very easy to get as lost as one can only assume Gaga was when she was recording, particularly if you're looking for any "art" here. You'll find none of that here, even on the highlights.
While ARTPOP doesn't suffer quite as much as her predecessor (in that it isn't out to offend the ears), the biggest problem with the album remains the woman pulling the strings. The concepts are mediocre at best, but even those mean nothing if the execution is poor. While Gaga continues to evolve her sound, she may want to understand exactly what it is that she's trying to do before she does it. The potential is there, but that's about it.

I really don't dislike her I just don't think she is that good. I enjoy a handful of songs on her first album and her new song is incredible. I just feel she is a middle power who is trying to punch above her weight class but I do admire her spunk in not accepting defeat.

Sorry it went over your head. No it didn't. I'm good. ;) It's impossible to be loved and respected by everyone. I was too curios, so read it all. You have some good points, it just sounds like an Examiner review (lol) at parts.

I like this album, but I prefer BTW. I was a fan of virtually every track on that album, not so much on this one. So far I'm a fan of about half of the songs (mostly in the first half).
Love: Artpop Do What You Want Applause
Like: Aura Venus G.U.Y. Sexxx Dreams Gypsy
The others will have to grow on me. Should be interesting to see what the future singles will be. I like Gypsy and all, but I'm not sold on it like many on here. Also, the title track is underrated!

And I agree; she's not going to please everyone with this album and it's all subjective anyway. It was a personal review lol, I'm not trying to act like the authority on music. But LOL at the Examiner. Awful.

Venus will be the third ARTPOP single, according to Billboard.Brands are embracing the opportunity to take βArtpopβ to the masses, too. Kia came onboard first with a massive 2013 ad campaign that began airing during the VMAs featuring the Kia hamsters dancing to βApplause.β Beats By Dre synched βDo What U Wantβ for a TV campaign that began airing in mid-October. Opening track βAuraβ was featured in trailers and a lyric video for βMachete Kills,β a Robert Rodriguez movie in which Gaga co-stars. Planned third single βVenusβ will get another big look from a major retailer later this month. And, as reports were expected to be confirmed at the Nov. 10 ArtRave, Gaga will perform a song in space in 2015 as part of a new partnership with Virgin Galactic, making her the first person to do so.

It's very 80s Hi Nrg/Synthpop. "Holiday" really is that influential. Jessica Simpson's "A Public Affair" also had a similar type of production. Planned third single βVenusβ will get another big look from a major retailer later this month. And, as reports were expected to be confirmed at the Nov. 10 ArtRave, Gaga will perform a song in space in 2015 as part of a new partnership with Virgin Galactic, making her the first person to do so. Putting the song in an ad can definitely help a bit, but I don't think it's a wise choice as the next single. They could always change it again just like they did with "Do What U Want" in place of "Venus." "Gypsy" or "G.U.Y." were really the only other followup single choices that were suitable.

Here's what I think will happen, like "Marry the Night", it'll be rumored to be the next single throughout the era and will likely be the closing single for ARTPOP. I'm hoping that "G.U.Y", "Gypsy" and "MANiCURE" perform strongly in their first week. That may deter her label from Venus for the moment.

PLANNED is the key word here, I think. Maybe they're just assuming it's single #3 because it was supposed to be the 2nd.

If they already have deals for companies to play "Venus", it's likely gonna remain a single and they aren't gonna change plans.
