I don't like her vocals on DWUW but I love them on Applause and Sex Dreams, which are the only other songs I have heard in full...oh yeah, I heard GUY too. That song is just OK for me at the moment, but it may grow on me. In fact, I didn't listen to Sex Dreams til last night and it may have been sped up because I had to search and search on YouTube. I really like that song.

Can we just take a moment and marvel at these f**king vocals. Definitely agreed. This is her most vocally challenging era yet.

I swear, G.U.Y. is one of the best songs she has recorded and if it's released as a single and handled correctly, will be a defining point in her career. It's an example of her songwriting at it's best, and the delivery is on point.

1. The Fame 2. ARTPOP 3. The Fame Monster 4. Born This Way
I don't get all the hate for TF. It's fun, frivolous, cohesive, and still sounds fresh to me. TFM's strong points are Bad Romance (still her best song), Telephone, and Dance In The Dark; I could take or leave the other tracks. Born This Way has some brilliance (the singles, Scheisse), but it's also bogged down by some of the weakest songs of her career (Bloody Mary, Electric Chapel, Highway Unicorn). ARTPOP is like a fusion of TF fun and BTW ridiculousness, in the best possible way. Even the tracks I initially found to be clunkers are growing on me.
Oh and count me in for a G.U.Y. single release - that song is SICK. If all goes as it should:
3. G.U.Y. 4. Venus 5. Gypsy/Sexxx Dreams (I'm inclined toward the former, the latter is a bit similar to G.U.Y.)

I think it's up there with Poker Face and Bad Romance as an example of her immaculate song writing and production.

G.U.Y is basically a Fame song with Fame Monster production and would work great as a single. I want Gypsy 3rd and then G.U.Y as the 4th. After that she's allowed to flop with the 5th single by releasing anything else left (aside from Venus which is one of the catchiest songs she's ever done).

BTW doesn't have a single dud, IMO. This one does - nope and JND are definitely the worst songs of her career.

"The Queen" is worse than any of the listed weakest tracks on BTW so far.
"Heavy Metal Lover" and "Government Hooker" will forever be the best from that album for me. (TEOG also!!)

The Queen is one of my faves. Along with Bloody Mary and Government Hooker. Worst for me are Born This Way and Fashion of His Love.

"Highway Unicorn (Road To Love)" is probably my least favorite GaGa song to date.

Finally got in a 4th review, and of course, it's a bad score. Some valid points; however, most of it is BS. He essentially is saying just because Gaga is better than other top 40 pop stars doesn't make her good. ARTPOP's average is now 71. Hoping to get some better reviews. www.metacritic.com/music/artpop/lady-gaga

67 on 8 reviews now. I don't see the metacritic score getting much better. I think she is lined up to have 4 successful singles from this album but I'm nervous for sales. DWUW isn't holding up all that well on iTunes (I know, I know).
What IS promising is the 1.2 million copies BTW sold AFTER its opening week.
I'm thinking this could be as low as 250k opening. As high as 350k? I'd love to be surprised but I'm not so sure.

I feel like you wouldn't expect a review of a country album from a site that does hip-hop, likewise a folk music reviewer probably wouldn't refer an EDM album. Yet everyone does pop albums and that's why top 40 artists rarely get high ratings, because of a few people who are already biased against all pop music writing an expected negative review.

from thequietus review:
On "Do What U Want": "...but here he teams up with Gaga to take a pop at the detractors: "we're taking these haters and roughin' 'em up and laying a cut like we don't give a fuck."
You can't even get the lyrics right, yet I'm supposed to have faith in your reviewing capabilities?

I rarely pay attention to metacritic for pop music reviews. Way too much obvious bias against the format and/or stanning for other pop artists. There are a few specific reviewers that I value, but as a whole I just found metacritic to be too biased/inaccurate for pop cds.

Now that we have the full album, I've been trying to analyze each song and determine what would be the likely choice for the Paparazzi-Telephone music video sequel. As of now, I'm guessing it's either Aura, G.U.Y. or Sexxx Dreams based on the song contents.
I'm also hoping we get more news about the app soon. I'm dying to hear "Temple" and "Tea".

I may not walk on your street or shoot a gun on your soil I hear you screaming, is it because of pleasure or toil?
great lyric.

Because the Telephone video ended with them driving away, so maybe she can tie that in to traveling everywhere and being a Gypsy? Idk. I'm assuming the music video will be a single, and I don't see Aura being a single or really even Sex Dreams.

As I was with Born This Way, I am actually disappointed by this album. I don't know if the reason is that I expect too much from Gaga or that simply I just don't enjoy the kind of music she is making now, but the album left me feeling quite disatisfied. Tbh, the only two songs I actually really like here are the 2 singles so far, other album tracks may grow on me with time but as for now I find everything too much thought-out, and the songs feel stale or just messy to me. I am not saying she should be doing all bubblegum light-hearted music, but I think there is no need to go to extremes and ARTPOP for me is the extreme of overthinking and overdrama maybe. Still, if this is the kind of music Gaga wants to make she should be doing so and I respect her for that. I will always be at least midly interested in the stuff she puts out, but today I am just not feeling this album at all

I'm obsessed with "Venus" right now. I haven't heard the entire album yet, but I'm looking forward to it! Me too! Can't stop playing it. I've only heard DWYW and GUY besides that, and I really like them both. This is all coming after I was disappointed in Applause. I've been a casual fan of her since the beginning but have been disappointed post-Judas. Applause almost made me give up but I'm happy I'm liking her other stuff I'm hearing.

I'm loving Venus too….it's weird that I didn't like it at all when I first heard it and thought it was bizarre, but it grew on me and now I love it! Dope has also grown on me so much….I love the production, and weirdly, the character she's playing with the vocals kinda conveys the emotion really well.
Some of her songs can just be a little much to digest at first, and over time they grow on me.

The chorus in Venus is everything and I love the Planet breakdown.

I think MANiCURE is the dark horse on this album, no pun intended.
