Why are people surprised about Usher's 2nd week drop?
Isn't in line with other 2nd week drops? 68%-72% drops are now normal.
Yes, NeRD. Future singles will hopefully given this album legs. Let's hope he can scan 400-500k.

The Bieb's concert special didn't do very well. Was there even much competion in it's time slot? All of Justin's cd's have had long legs though he seemed to be getting bigger and bigger with each one. This latest may too even though some kids may be more into One Direction now. Lol. Justin's latest will probably spark more raido interest this time around and more adults may pick up his cd. Hopefully causing it to have legs. Also not every kid has the money the 1st week to buy a cd so I wouldn't be surprised if his number's held up decently due to that fact as well.

^ Good point. Some young audiences are less interested in getting the album in the first week, instead taking on a "I'll wait until my birthday" mentality.

I guess its clear now that no one is immune.

Because most newly released albums are frontloaded.... *confused* If every album is frontloaded, why are people talking about Beber (and other albums) being frontloaded? Because misguided souls tend to think that it may increase later on in its release week by a significant margin, which is where people counter that the albums are frontloaded in respect to its release week. In respect to being frontloaded in the long run, the chances of that tend to increase with increasingly larger opening weeks.

It was clear before Usher that no one is immune. Plus, it's not like he's coming off of a blockbuster album.

It was clear before Usher that no one is immune. Plus, it's not like he's coming off of a blockbuster album. RvR opened with nearly 2x the amount that this album opened with. Papers was a hit on R&B, but not nearly as big as Climax. The only difference is that Scream stalled at Pop as opposed to OMG going #2. May I also add that Here I Stand was nowhere near blockbuster.

Big enough to sell 200,000 more copies opening week? I don't think so.

His promo for this album was less active than R v R.

Yeah, I didn't really see that much promo aside form the Billboard Awards and the online streamed concert.

I don't think OMG was even charting on pop during RvR's release week (it had only been released digitally the week before the album dropped); it certainly hadn't come close to its eventual #2 peak yet. That not only negates any difference one thinks it makes, it actually makes the whole thing that much more mystifying. It also lends more weight to the people who think that this is his r&b fans showing how unhappy they are with him doing pop music - he went from a ~330k opening with no song going at pop radio at all yet to a ~128k opening with a currently top 10 pop hit (as well as Climax being a much bigger urban hit than Papers, Hey Daddy, and Lil' Freak were at the time). His radio presence is much stronger now than it was leading into RvR.
I'm still on the 'promo was weak' boat mostly. I'll add, to NeRD's post, that he also did SNL, but that was so early on (April I think?) that I doubt many remember it. I'd forgotten about it myself until I was watching his Vevo concert and saw in the related vids that he had uploaded the SNL performances.

I don't even think "OMG" was in the Top 50 at CHR/Pop when RvR was released.
Fact check: RvR was released two days before CHR/Pop's entry into the CHR/Pop Top 50.

Justin Bieber's 'Believe' Now Aiming For 390-410k Debut Week June 22, 2012 | By Keith Caulfield ( keith_caulfield), Los Angeles Justin Bieber's new "Believe" album is still on course for the largest debut sales week of the year, as industry sources say the set will move between 390,000 and 410,000 copies by week's end on Sunday, June 24. "Believe" will easily debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 next week. Chart Moves: Jimmy Fallon's 'Blow' Bows on Billboard 200, Bobby Womack's (Electronic) Debut, 'Purple Rain' Returns That start is scaled back a bit from the range of 410,000 to 440,000 that some in-the-know had forecasted on Wednesday, June 20. However, as we've noted previously, estimating sales is tricky and projections can change on a daily basis. Justin Bieber, Kenny Chesney Headed for Top Two on Billboard 200 Chart The new Billboard 200's top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Wednesday, June 27. Usher Scores Fourth No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 With 'Looking 4 Myself' Also on tap to score a big bow next week: Kenny Chesney's "Welcome to the Fishbowl," with around 200,000. It seems a likely lock for a debut in the runner-up slot. His last album, 2010's "Hemingway's Whiskey," entered at No. 1 with 183,000 sold according to Nielsen SoundScan. Usher's current No. 1 on the Billboard 200, "Looking 4 Myself," might end up in the No. 3 slot next week, while Fiona Apple's new "The Idler Wheel . . ." is eyeing a top five debut. Sources say it will sell around 60,000 to 70,000 copies. Also headed for the top 10: Smashing Pumpkins' "Oceania," with around 50,000 copies. It could mark the band's seventh top 10 album, and will follow 2007's No. 2-peaking "Zeitgeist." On Nielsen SoundScan's Building chart (below), Bieber is No. 1, followed by Chesney, Usher and Apple at Nos. 2-4, respectively. The Building tally is a precursor to the final Billboard 200 ranking -- reflecting the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week as reported by six major merchants. Adele's unstoppable "21" is No. 5, while Smashing Pumpkins' "Oceania" is No. 6. Rounding out the Building Chart's top 10 are the "Rock of Ages" soundtrack (No. 7), Rush's "Clockwork Angels" (No. 8), One Direction's "Up All Night" (No. 9) and Josh Turner's "Punching Bag" (No. 10). Nielsen SoundScan Building Chart Rank LW BB 200 Artist Title 1NEW Justin Bieber "Believe" 2NEW Kenny Chesney"Welcome to the Fishbowl" 3 1 Usher "Looking 4 Myself" 4NEW Fiona Apple "The Idler Wheel . . ." 5 3 Adele "21" 6 NEW Smashing Pumpkins "Oceania" 7 9 Soundtrack "Rock of Ages" 8 2 Rush "Clockwork Angels" 9 6 One Direction "Up All Night" 10 4 Josh Turner "Punching Bag" The Building Chart reflects the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week (which ends Sunday) as reported by six major merchants: iTunes, Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Starbucks, Target and Anderson Merchandisers. Billboard estimates that they make up about 85% of all U.S. album sales.

Barring a weekend surge, looks like Bieber's sales were pretty front-loaded- but we expected as much. The ratings for his second night on NBC dipped to a 0.8 in the 18-49 demo (with 3.1m overall viewers).
BB's chart has Usher at No. 3, but his album may not do as well as Fiona Apple's over the weekend.

^ Or maybe even as well as Adele's.. The two will be at about the same mark.
Bieber's estimates keep inching downward, while Chesney's inch upward.

From that Billboard's article, Usher's drops do not look that bad. He may still push in the 70k range which would be pretty decent considering his opening. This album most likely will sell pretty well over time due to "Climax" success right now. He may not have a monster opening but I wouldn't be surprised if he still sell million. He just better focus on his urban fanbase.

Plus Climax just reached #1 on Urban AC so I think that should help him sell albums. I can see that staying #1 there for several weeks.

It would be hilarious if Bieber underperformed down to 358k and Madonna still ended up being the top debut of the year.
(I don't expect that to happen, and I don't really care either way, but I'd get a kick out of it.)

Anyway, perhaps as early as week 2, regardless of final week 1 numbers, I would expect Bieber's total sales for this album to exceed the total sales for MDNA to date

Ooops maybe people spoke too soon on Usher being abandoned by Urban listeners. Usher doesn't have like 5 or six singles all playing at Urban radio in heavy rotation like last time.
