LINKIN PARKS ONE, MAROON’S NEXT
Veteran Warner Bros. Rockers to Debut with 210-230k, Maroon Could Hit 200k
June 27, 2012
Linkin Park’s Living the high life. The veteran Warner Bros. rap-rockers will debut at #1 on the next HITS Album sales chart with their fifth studio album, Living Things, which looks headed to an opening week of between 210-230k, according to one-day sales reports from those retailers who haven’t paved paradise and put up a parking lot. It’s the first chart-topper for WEA this year.
That compares favorably with their last album, A Thousand Suns, which debuted in Sept. 2010 with 241k, and went on to sell 845k.
A&M/Octone act Maroon 5 prove the power of television, as lead singer Adam Levine’s stint on The Voice has led to a first-week projection between 180-200k, which would top the debut of the band’s last album, Hands All Over. That one entered the charts with 142k in sales in Sept. 2010, just a week after Linkin Park’s last album, coincidentally enough. The album already has one smash single in “Payphone,” featuring Wiz Khalifa, and boasts plenty more where that came from.
Next highest debut after that will be Maybach Music Group’s MMG Presents, Vol. 2, a WEA-distributed album featuring Rick Ross, Wale, Meek Mill, Stalley and Omarion, is in the 80-90k range.
RCA R&B icon R. Kelly’s Write Me Back will bow with between 70-75k in first-week sales.
Columbia punk vets Offspring’s Days Go By, their first studio album since 2008’s Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace, is on target to sell between 20-25k.
Finally, Madison Gate/Sony Pictures’ The Sing-Off winners and a cappella cover band Pentatonix’s PTX, Vol. 1, should do 15-20k as an iTunes exclusive, where it’s been ensconced in the Top 5 all week.

I expected more from R Kelly but good projections for Maroon 5 and Linkin Park. I think this Maroon 5 album will have legs and pass 1.5 million at least.

Wow at LP. Is their lead single even on the Mainstream Chart?

All of my favorite R&B icons are flopping. This is a sad time...I can't believe R. Kelly is only selling 75k, he should at least have been able to reach 125k. He had no promo, but still.

In next week's chart boxing match, it is Chris Brown vs. 50 Cent.
Who will deliver the knockout punch?
Chris Brown gets my vote.

Not sure about Fortune. So much shh going on with him, I wouldn't be surprised at 160-200k.

I expected those predictions for both LP & M5, but not from R.Kelly :o 2 Wavez., if Breezy can do that much, that'll be a true blessing. R&B acts aren't doing well at all.

That's not too shoddy for Pentatonix. They're outselling all alumni of The Voice, LOL. See, NBC? Please bring The Sing-off back! :'(
JFYI, even though the album is sadly overproduced, their covers of "Somebody That I Used To Know" and "We Are Young" are both better than the originals. There, I said it.

R.Kelly's numbers are good considering the hype around his album has been very quiet and he isn't hitting the promo circuit.
Expected more from Maroon 5 to be honest. This makes me wonder if Christina will see similar or less numbers for her next album if she has a huge hit ala Payphone.

Nice numbers for M5. Wasn't expecting them to do huge numbers so this is good. I'm sure the album will have great longevity.
I also think Fortune may suffer from the puskbacks, etc. I could see him still doing 200k though.

Really happy with M5's numbers, they're gonna have great legs with this one. The album is full of potential hits and with their killer radio support lately plus Season 2 of the Voice coming in a couple months, this will have no trouble sailing past 1M.

Linkin Park should debut on top next week with a total that will come close to and may exceed the first week of its last album, A Thousand Suns, which opened with 241k in Sept. 2010. This will also give WEA its first #1 album of 2012. Hot on the heels, but not quite within striking distance at midweek, is Maroon 5, which will also best the 142k first week of its last album, Hands All Over, also from Sept. 2010. Here's how it looks at midweek:
*Linkin Park (Warner Bros.) 230-250k *Maroon 5 (A&M/Octone) 200-220k Justin Believe (Island/IDJ) 130-140k| *MMG Presents, Vol. 2 (Maybach Music Group) 80-90k Kenny Chesney (Blue Chair/Columbia Nashville) 65-70k *R. Kelly (RCA) 63-68k Adele (XL/Columbia) 40-45k One Direction (Syco/Columbia) 37-42k Usher (RCA) 35-40k Rock of Ages (WaterTower) 30-35k Fiona Apple (Epic) 24-27k *Offspring (Columbia) 21-24k Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 20-23k Let It Shine (Walt Disney) 17-20k Now 42 (Capitol/EMI) 17-20k Smashing Pumpkins (Martha's Music/ELS) 17-20k *Pentatonix (Madison Gate) 17-20k Alan Jackson (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 17-20k
*Debuts (6/28p)

I'm back on the list for the New Release Schedule!
Remember to take these numbers with a grain of salt. Sometimes they are dead on, sometimes way off.
Chris Brown 275k 50 cent - not listed! - very weird

Nas 104k
Jennifer Lopez GH 30k
Sparkle Sdtk. 75k Rick Ross 225k
Now 43 100k
Trey Songz 154k
Brandy 90k
T.I. 125k Matchbox 20 100k
No Doubt 150k Lupe Fiasco 150k

Nice for Rock of Ages, and really nice for the whole top 4. As expected, this week will bring Justin Bieber's total past Madonna's.

Chris Brown is not doing over 200k. I woudn't be too sure. His fans are known to flock out the first week to buy his albums. He almost never has longevity though.
