OK so Taylor's finally getting her first #1 single. Hope America's fav island import follows suit with her 7th LP. That Payphone is the only one on that list not to top BB.

Congrat to Taylor. I suspect that a record that will change hands a lot over the next few years.

That Payphone is the only one on that list not to top BB. "Boyfriend" didn't hit #1 either.

"Taylor's finally getting her first #1 single. Hope America's fav island import follows suit with her 7th LP." - Doesn't Rihanna already have, like, a trillion #1s? He means her album. The BB200 is always punching her downE.

It's a huge drop because last Tuesday was removed from the 7-day-rolling total. Swift's track still will see a pretty good airplay gain for this week's chart, as it was at 40 million BDS for the 8/25 chart (a day-and-a-half or so of airplay).

All I'd wanted was for a definite radio gain for the 2nd charting week, and that happened, so cool. Being #14ish already puts it at around Teardrops' peak position.

Good Day!! Taylor Swift is #1!!! Taylor Swift Scores First-Ever No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 With 'Never' August 22, 2012 | By Gary Trust, New York One of the only elusive honors in Taylor Swift's enviable career is a reality at last, as the country/pop superstar scores her first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, as "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" blasts from No. 72 to the summit in its second week. Swift had claimed accolades including Billboard's Woman of the Year (2011) and No. 1s on the Billboard 200, Hot Digital Songs, Hot 100 Airplay, Mainstream Top 40, Hot Country Songs and Top Country Albums charts, among others. She's sold 17.8 million albums in the U.S. and 50 million downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan, since arriving with her self-titled debut album and introductory single, "Tim McGraw," six years ago. Now, Swift has her first No. 1 on the Hot 100 (the 1,018th leader in the chart's 54-year history), where she had previously reached No. 2 twice, with "You Belong With Me" (2009) and "Today Was a Fairytale" (2010). Her multi-format smashes "Mine" (2010) and "Love Story" (2008) reached Nos. 3 and 4, respectively. Swift's 'Never' Sets Female Digital Sales Record "Never," the lead single from Swift's fourth studio album, "Red," due Oct. 22 on Big Machine Records, soars to No. 1 on the Hot 100 fueled by a record 623,000 downloads sold in its first week, according to SoundScan. The sum marks the highest one-week digital sales total by a female artist and is second among all acts only to Flo Rida's "Right Round," which sold 636,000 the week of Feb. 28, 2009, also its debut frame. "Never" instantly becomes Swift's fourth No. 1 on the Hot Digital Songs chart. Swift's 'Never' Blasts Onto Country, Pop, Adult Radio Charts After the song was released late Monday (Aug. 13), the first two days of radio airplay for "Never" (aided by promotional play on more than 300 Clear Channel Media and Entertainment-owned stations) enabled the song's No. 25 start on Hot 100 Airplay last week (40 million all-format audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS). Following is first full week of radio availability, "Never" jumps 25-14 (52 million, up 29%) on Hot 100 Airplay. As previously reported, the song enters a host of genre airplay charts this week, including Hot Country Songs, where its No. 13 launch is the highest by a woman in the 22 years that BDS data has powered the survey. While "Never" has not yet been made available to streaming services that also contribute to the Hot 100's data pool, the song outranks the No. 2 song on the chart, and last week's No. 1, Flo Rida's "Whistle," by an almost two-to-one chart points ratio. "Whistle" slips 1-2 on the Hot 100 despite rising 12-8 on Radio Songs (74 million, up 12%). It likewise falls 1-2 on Hot Digital Songs (199,000, down 8%), while gaining on On-Demand Songs (773,000 on-demand streams, up 3%, according to BDS), where it holds at No. 3. Ellie Goulding's "Lights" dips to No. 3 on the Hot 100 after reaching a highpoint of No. 2 the last two weeks; Carly Rae Jepsen's former nine-week No. 1 "Call Me Maybe" drops 3-4; and, Katy Perry's No. 2-peaking "Wide Awake" falls 4-5. Fun.'s "Some Nights" jumps 8-6 on the Hot 100 with gains on Hot Digital Songs (5-3; 180,000, up 21%), Hot 100 Airplay (30-19; 45 million, up 17%) and On-Demand Songs (7-5; 697,000, up 12%). Maroon 5's No. 2-peaking "Payphone," featuring Wiz Khalifa, descends 5-7 in its 18th week on the Hot 100 and its first below the top five. Its sum of 17 weeks lodged in the top five from its debut equals the Hot 100 record; Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men's "One Sweet Day" spent its first 17 weeks in the bracket in 1995-96, including its first 16 at No. 1 (the longest command in the Hot 100's archives) and the Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling" likewise logged 17 weeks in the top five from its start in 2009, including 14 at No. 1. But, wait, there's more Maroon 5 news: "Payphone" follow-up "One More Night" darts 15-9 with the Hot 100's top Digital and Streaming Gainer badges, rising 7-4 on Hot Digital Songs (170,000, up 26%) and 45-28 on On-Demand Songs (345,000, up 33%), as well as 43-25 on Hot 100 Airplay (40 million, up 29%). After notching its first two Hot 100 top 10s ("This Love" and "She Will Be Loved") in 2004 and adding its third ("Makes Me Wonder") in 2007, Maroon 5 has doubled its top 10 total with its last three radio-promoted singles. Prior to "Payphone" and "Night," the group's "Moves Like Jagger," featuring Christina Aguilera, reigned for four weeks in September/October 2011. In between Maroon 5's two concurrent Hot 100 top 10s, Justin Bieber posts the chart's other arrival into the upper tier, as "As Long as You Love Me," featuring Big Sean, climbs 12-8 to become Bieber's third top 10 (and Big Sean's second). The cut zooms 8-6 on Hot Digital Songs (145,000, up 12%), 33-18 on Hot 100 Airplay (46 million, up 20%) and 10-9 on On-Demand Songs (554,000, up 12%). Bieber first reached the Hot 100's top 10 with "Baby" (No. 5) in 2010 and returned to the region with his previous radio single, "Boyfriend," which reached No. 2 in April. David Guetta's "Titanium," featuring Sia, rounds out the Hot 100's top 10, backtracking 7-10. Check billboard.biz tomorrow (Aug. 23), when all rankings, including the Hot 100, Hot Digital Songs, Hot 100 Airplay and On-Demand Songs, will be refreshed, as they are each Thursday. Over on the Digital Songs chart, as previously reported, Taylor Swift debuts at No. 1 with "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," selling a whopping 623,000 downloads. It's the largest digital sales week ever for a song by a woman, and the second-best overall. Only the arrival of Flo Rida's "Right Round" (636,000 in 2009) was bigger. Full Story: Taylor Swift's 'Never' Song Sets Female Digital Record Speaking of Flo Rida, on this week's chart, his "Whistle" slips 1-2 with 199,000 (down 8%) to make room for Swift's No. 1-opener. Below Flo is fun.'s "Some Nights," which rises 5-3 (180,000; up 22%) and Maroon 5's "One More Night," climbing 7-4 (170,000; up 26%). With the Olympics over, it's not surprising to see Phillip Phillips' "Home" tumble 2-5 with 161,000 (down 24%). The song was used during NBC's coverage of women's gymnastics, and was also heard during the network's pre-show that aired before the closing ceremony on Aug. 12. Justin Bieber's "As Long As You Love Me" (featuring Big Sean) rises 8-6 (145,000; up 12%), Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" falls 3-7 (136,000; down 13%) and Owl City and Jepsen's "Good Time" climbs 9-8 (127,000; up 4%). Bringing up the rear is Cher Lloyd's "Want You Back" (10-9 with 125,000; up 7%) and Mumford & Sons' "I Will Wait" (4-10 with 102,000; down 34%). Digital track sales this past week totaled 24.77 million downloads, up 3% compared with last week (24.03 million) and up 7% stacked next to the comparable week of 2011 (23.12 million). Year-to-date track sales are at 870.20 million, up 6% compared with the same total at this point last year (823.47 million). www.billboard.com/news#/news/2-chainz-debuts-at-no-1-on-billboard-200-1007871552.story

“Following is first full week of radio availability, "Never" jumps 25-14 (52 million, up 29%) on Hot 100 Airplay.” – Only behind 4 of her hits, after 8 ½ days.
“While "Never" has not yet been made available to streaming services that also contribute to the Hot 100's data pool, the song outranks the No. 2 song on the chart, and last week's No. 1, Flo Rida's "Whistle," by an almost two-to-one chart points ratio.” - Lol at people worrying.
With 623k vs. 199k, We Are Never is ahead in sales by 213%, shattering the digital record: Hips Don’t Lie 175%, Born this Way 164, Right Round 149, Crack a Bottle 139. Actually, this week’s #2-4 only sell 549k altogether. She beats them by 13.5%; the other song to beat #2-4 is Hips Don't Lie which did so by 8%.

This is the closest thing to country song to top the chart in 12 years. (Note: I don't consider "Inside Your Heaven" a country song because it sounds the same as Bo's "rock" version)

This whole single release has been "taylor" made to give her a #1 on the Hot 100, something I'm sure she's coveted for awhile now.
Congrats Taylor, you did it.

Inside Your Heaven also wasn't sent to country radio and thus didn't chart in their T50.

Even if it was a force, there would still be others. Let me just list some long titles: Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now) I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) Something About The Way You Look Tonight We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman? Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You) What Goes Around...Comes Around Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me I Like The Way (The Kissing Game) Love Will Never Do (Without You) Buy U A Drank (Shawty Snappin') Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You) My Life Would Suck Without You Somebody That I Used To Know Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) This Used To Be My Playground How Do You Talk to an Angel These are all post-1990. And here's one pre-1990: "Hey Won't You Play (Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song)" - BJ Thomas - #1 April 1975

Wow, for his big week, Flo Rida wasn't doing as well in airplay as Taylor is. No. 16 - Flo Rida (+7.6 million) vs. #14 for Taylor

Im sorry but something is definitely wrong with the chart formula. How can taylor swift make number one,but katie perry, maroon 5 ,and ellie goulding not make number one?In my opinion airplay should have have more weight in determining a billboard hot 100 number one.Wide awake and Lights are much huger hits than, taylor swifts song we all know that but the bilboard charts dont reflect that which is really sad.

Nice to see a lot of movement in the chart this week, with 3 songs entering the top 10.

leonagwen, You must have loved the Hot 100 in the 90s, when song's like 2Pac's "How Do U Want It" got to #1 at the expense of big CHR pop hits. This is nothing new, and it's a bi-product of a blended chart, when sales are huge.

With any formula, a song that sells over 600,000 copies will most likely debut/climb to #1. There was high demand for we Are Never...and it shows with the climb to #1. It's the most popular song of this week and that's why it's #1. Plus, all the songs you mentioned just happened to be up to some stiff competition from humongous hits Call Me Maybe and STIUTK. Sometimes it's not in the cards. But I feel that Lights might have a slight chance to head back (doubt it though with it falling in sales).

People who want to see the biggest songs in pop airplay should be looking at Mediabase's CHR/Pop chart and stop getting so frustrated that the Hot 100 doesn't mirror it.
