Songs 10-6 | | Janelle Monáe feat. Erykah Badu "Q.U.E.E.N." (from The Electric Lady ) 2013 Peak: 3 | 2013 Weeks on chart: 34 | 2013 Points: 18746.4 | 2013 Certification (Overall Certification): 4x Platinum 2013 Chart run: 39-30-18-12-7-5-5-3-3-4-5-7-9-10-15-21-26-32-35-42-45-46-46-45-46-49-46-44-46-46-42-44-46-42 This song is such a jam. I didn’t like it when it first came out, so ignored it. Then the video came out and I gave it another try. I loved Janelle in the video, and that’s when the song started to grow on me. Deserved a higher peak, but it’s still hanging in there at the bottom of my chart. Not tired of it at all. Like I’ve said before, I don’t care for Erykah very much on the song, but she’s listenable. | | | Tamar Braxton "All the Way Home" (from Love and War ) 2013 Peak: 3 | 2013 Weeks on chart: 18 | 2013 Points: 19675 | 2013 Certification (Overall Certification): 4x Platinum 2013 Chart run: 41-22-13-11-8-7-7-5-6-7-7-6-6-4-3-3-3-3 I wasn’t too big on this song at first and thought it was a big drop below the other singles. However, it stands a good chance to pass “The One” in chart points, and maybe even “Love and War” if it holds in there long enough. Her label sucks and should have pushed her songs more to urban and rhythmic but most labels suck. Anyways, it's a great song. | | | Coldplay "Atlas" (from Catching Fire Soundtrack ) 2013 Peak: 1 [1 week] | 2013 Weeks on chart: 17 | 2013 Points: 19960 | 2013 Certification (Overall Certification): 4x Platinum 2013 Chart run: 48-19-13-5-1-2-2-3-4-4-4-3-5-4-4-4-4 I have no clue why I love this song so much. It’s like, such a boring, anti-climactic song, yet it’s so beautiful and amazing and I love it. I almost sat through the credits at the end of the movie just to listen to it lol. For Coldplay, this is far from the normal music I like from them, making my love for it even more unusual. Oh well, not gonna complain since I got a song that I love! | | | Lady Gaga "Applause" (from ARTPOP ) 2013 Peak: 1 [1 week] | 2013 Weeks on chart: 20 | 2013 Points: 20515 | 2013 Certification (Overall Certification): 4x Platinum 2013 Chart run: 1-2-3-4-5-5-4-3-5-6-8-10-8-10-11-13-20-26-39-41 I really don’t know how I stand on this song. It definitely did this well because of being a Gaga song and hype. It’s not a bad song, but she has so much better. The verses are so weird, but that also makes them good in a way. The pre-chorus vocals are so random, but I quite like them now. And as usual, Gaga made the chorus super catchy. Overall it lands close to the bottom of Gaga’s singles, but I like almost every one of her singles so that’s not saying it’s a bad song. | | | Tamar Braxton "The One" (from Love and War ) 2013 Peak: 1 [1 week] | 2013 Weeks on chart: 26 | 2013 Points: 21935.75 | 2013 Certification (Overall Certification): 5x Platinum 2013 Chart run: 38-27-23-19-13-10-9-8-6-4-3-2-2-2-1-2-6-7-10-14-20-29-37-43-47-48 Tamar’s 2nd song (of 3) to appear, coincidentally her 2nd single from this album. It’s so great. I found it MUCH more instant than “Love and War,” which I did not care for at all at first. In fact, I think when this came out I gave “Love and War” another try and started to like it. (looks at chart run) Yeah, I remembered right. “The One” debuted the week after “Love and War” debuted. This had a slower rise to the top than “Love and War” due to being the 2nd single (I wanted to chart them somewhat in order), and also not liking it as much. It managed to sneak in 1 week at #1, and had a decent fall afterwards. Definitely not the longevity of “Love and War,” though. Great song. |

Albums 7-6 | | Ariana Grande Yours Truly Total 2013 Points: 51207.5 2013 Songs Charted:- “Baby I”
- “Popular Song”
- “Right There”
- “The Way”
Ariana. :'( Such an amazing album. Love the productions, love the vocals, love everything about it. Except the Unwanted duet. There were only 3 singles so only those, plus “Popular Song,” charted. “Popular Song” peaked at #1 for 1 week, but only charted 7 weeks. HUGE burn rate for me. I enjoy it again, though. Ariana’s 3 singles actually charted significantly higher (“Baby I” #20, “The Way” #22, and “Right There” #32) than “Popular Song,” which was only #95 year-end. This is due to much better chart runs, even with significantly lower peaks (#7, #9, and #13, respectively). The album would have seen a LOT more success with some different songs as singles, but oh well. One of my most played albums of the year. | | | Selena Gomez Stars Dance Total 2013 Points: 59935.7 2013 Songs Charted:- “Come & Get It”
- “Slow Down”
Didn’t even make the top 5, even though both songs made top 5! :O This is simply due to only having 2 songs chart. “Birthday” potentially could have charted, but I didn’t really even consider it. It was sort of a promo single since it got a video either the week of or the week before the album release. It was a VERY low budget video, I believe from Selena’s actual birthday party. If it had been a true music video I would have thought harder about charting it (like I did with “Aura.” However, that song was actually a promo single, but for Machete Kills rather than ARTPOP, although it ended up being promo for both, obviously) Rumors have popped up about “Birthday” being the 3rd single so it could end up charting anyways. Look for commentary on that song tomorrow in the album tracks section. ;) Anyways, amazing album, even if it is a bit generic. This album slayed my soul this past year. |

Artists 10-6 | | Ke$ha Total 2013 Points: 41497.95 2013 Songs Charted:- C’Mon
- Crazy Kids
- Die Young
- Timber (100%)
- Wonderland
So I already talked about Warrior, and the only song of hers not from there is “Timber.” Obviously, like all Pitbull songs, the chorus is what makes the song. Needless to say Ke$ha got 100% of the points from the song, which actually isn’t too much since it’s still growing. She had a good year on my chart, even though she didn’t have too much success in the real world. See her album for more commentary. | | | Kendrick Lamar Total 2013 Points: 45391 2013 Songs Charted:- Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe
- Give It 2 U (100%)
- Poetic Justice
- Swimming Pools (Drank)
As with Ke$ha, the only song of his not on his album is “Give It 2 U.” Like all his verses, he killed it, so he got 100% of the points. Not much else too add besides see his album for more commentary. | | | Ariana Grande Total 2013 Points: 51207.5 2013 Songs Charted:- Baby I
- Popular Song (100%)
- Right There
- The Way
See album. Oh and stupid #AMAs in the gif. | | | Bruno Mars Total 2013 Points: 57597.7 2013 Songs Charted:- Bubble Butt (100%)
- Gorilla
- Locked Out of Heaven
- Moonshine
- Natalie
- Treasure
- When I Was Your Man
- Young Girls
As with Ke$ha and Kendrick, his only feature was in “Bubble Butt.” He got 100% of the points, which obviously gave him a big boost. See his album for more commentary. | | | Selena Gomez Total 2013 Points: 59935.7 2013 Songs Charted:- Come & Get It
- Slow Down
See Selegend. |

Josh's Top Album Tracks (part 4)
Just a reminder that these are in a (mostly) random order.[3]
"B.E.A.T." by Selena Gomez from Stars Dance OH MY GOD SO GOOD. Flawless. One of my favorite songs of the year. I was surprised this wasn’t by The Cataracs since it’s so reminiscent of “Bass Down Low.” I love Dev and that song so no shock that I love this song as well. I love the harmonies throughout the song, the production is hot as hell, and Selena sounds flawless as usual. The part at ~2:20 is PERFECTION. The robotic vocals, the highlighting of the production, ugh it’s all just so good. Can’t decide if it’s my favorite or 2nd favorite from the album.
"Don’t Hold the Wall" by Justin Timberlake from The 20/20 Experience Definitely my favorite album track from both albums, and possibly my favorite song overall. “Suit & Tie” puts up a good fight. This is just so perfect, though. I love the production on this. It feels like you’re in some sort of Native American tribe or something with the weird instrumentation/effects, the percussion, the background vocals. Justin sounds amazing, just like the production. I love the line “Well (heh) I’m the best ever” lol. So cocky. Just an amazing song.
"Freak" by Kelly Rowland from Talk a Good Game Another song by Kelly that absolutely slayed me. Perfect way to open up the album. I live for Kelly’s vocals lately. She just sounds absolutely amazing and kills everything. In a good way. The production on this is really good, and everything combines together to be perfection.
"Legendary Lovers" by Katy Perry from PRISM The only Katy track to appear here. The 3 other good songs off the album are/were singles or promo singles. I like the semi-trend of incorporating some tribal or Asian sounds into pop music that’s happened a few times this year. It definitely adds something to the songs, this included. Katy’s vocals are much more enjoyable than usual on this song. I quite like her... falsetto? in the chorus. I like the breakdown” in the second half of the song along with the semi-robotic vocals. It goes a bit downhill, but overall a good song.
"Sexxx Dreams" by Lady Gaga from ARTPOP I remember when Gaga tweeted the title to this song a long time ago and I was like yassssssssssssss this song will slay. It’s good, but not as good as I was hoping. It took some time to grow on me, and now I really like it. It’s not one of Gaga’s best choruses. It’s a bit too repetitive for me, but I like the production. I like the verses better. “We’re both convicted criminals of thought” and “We can’t hide the evidence in our heads” are great lines, imo.
"Tattooed Heart" by Ariana Grande from Yours Truly Ariana continuing to slay my soul. The song starts out with her subdued vocals, a soft production, some snapping, and background vocal effects by Ariana. Then the chorus starts and the production picks up, and her belting starts, and she really shows off her vocals. I love the strings and the percussion towards the end, trying to memorize how the pattern of it goes lol. Some of Ariana’s absolute best vocals on this song, if not her best. She absolutely killed it.
"White Teeth Teens" by Lorde from Pure Heroine Again a typical Lorde song, but a top notch one. Great vocal effects and background vocals. I love the drum rolls on this one. I feel like anything else I say will be a repeat of her previous songs so I’ll leave it at this.

"QUEEN" - YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^ My favorite 2nd favorite 3rd favorite (Oh yeah, "Slow Down" & "Applause") song in your top 10 at number 10. :( :) My guesses compared to reality. "Figure 8" at #9 was a bad guess cause I didn't get to see it's chart run, that was before I was on pulse as a regular (Pre-July) Songs (MG means my guess, r means reality) MG R 7 10 "QUEEN" - Janelle Monae f/Erykah Badu 10 9 "All The Way Home" - Tamar Braxton 6 8 "Atlas" - Coldplay 8 7 "Applause" - Lady Gaga 3 6 "The One" - Tamar Braxton Albums (Had no idea for this one). 5 7 "Yours Truly" - Ariana Grande 2 6 "Stars Dance" - Selena Gomez Artists 10 10 Ke$ha (Yay, first one I got right)!! 8 9 Kendrick Lamar 5 8 Ariana Grande 7 7 Bruno Mars (Yay, I got this right)!! 2 6 Selena Gomez (Shocked & flabbergasted by this, she deserves better, especially on your chart). :'(

The other albums this high had more songs chart, so only 2 songs, even though both were huge, really hurt it.

Yeah, I definitely thought they would effect them for the better, although I do understand that. As you can tell I've kept a close eye today on this. ;) Hopefully "Clarity" is #1 on your songs chart, so I can be the only one who got it right.

So, I messed up completely with the artists and albums and I got two in the songs. Surprised to see that Selena Gomez isn't in the Top 5 in the two former categories, but she got two songs in the Top 5. However, as you explained, seems that the two (and only) songs you charted from her really helped in a sort of way. "Atlas" is the standout track for me in this batch and good to see Ariana Grande, as well as the previously mentioned artist, with their albums and Ke$ha too. PS. The Ariana Grande .gif is still amazing!

I had the Ariana gif in mind when I looked for hers. I had one in mind for Gaga but couldn't find it right away so I have a different one which is still good.

YES at everything in your bottom five. "The One" was instant for me too, but so was "Love And War". Still like "The One" more. I share your feelings with "Applause" too. It's near the bottom of my Gaga singles list as well. Great artists and albums! Excited about the top rankings! Oh, and glad to see "B.E.A.T.", "Sexxx Dreams", "White Teeth Teens", and "Legendary Lovers". EDIT: #flop predictions, haha. I correctly guessed that four of the top five would be in the top five, though. I'll take it.

Around the same time "Kiss You" re-entered, I think... I found the video for "Clarity" at around the end of December, and that was when I charted it. Fun Fact: Schoolboy Q and Mary Lambert are the only artists who collaborated with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and have reached top 50 in any format: Mary Lambert - "She Keeps Me Warm" Schoolboy Q - Collard Greens

For Zedd, once I got into him I debuted Spectrum and Lost At Sea one week, then Clarity the next. Spectrum lingered in the teens for a while then reached #5 peak, then fell and lingered in the 30s/40s until the end of August. I didn't realize I charted it that long lol. 46 total weeks :O and 5x platinum. I guess it did make #33 2013 year-end. I already forgot that I wrote commentary for it lol

Songs 5-4 | | Ellie Goulding "Figure 8" (from Halcyon Days ) 2013 Peak: 1 [2 weeks] | 2013 Weeks on chart: 35 | 2013 Points: 23945.05 | 2013 Certification (Overall Certification): 5x Platinum 2013 Chart run: 27-25-23-14-9-5-2-1-2-2-1-2-4-5-8-11-11-14-15-18-24-24-25-26-27-30-32-34-36-37-40-41-46-46-47 This song is so amazing. I didn’t think that I would like another of Ellie’s songs like I did “Lights” since I don’t like most of her material. However, this song proved me wrong. I actually like it more than “Lights,” I think. It’s just so good. The production definitely is the best part about this song, although Ellie sounds great on it, too. I love the strings, the dubstep, just everything. I love the buildup at the end, with the extra synths right at the end. Some people find the song too noisy at the end but I absolutely love it. Highly deserving of being top 5. | | | Tamar Braxton "Love and War" (from Love and War ) 2013 Peak: 1 [3 weeks] | 2013 Weeks on chart: 34 | 2013 Points: 24378.6 | 2013 Certification (Overall Certification): 5x Platinum 2013 Chart run: 40-31-10-2-1-1-2-1-2-2-2-2-3-5-8-13-15-17-20-21-25-32-37-39-41-41-42-41-44-45-43-45-47-43 I’ve already kind of talked about this in the commentary for “The One” and maybe “All the Way Home” as well. It took some time to grow on me, but once it started it never really stopped. I still love this nearly 40 weeks after I started liking it, and it’s still hanging around on my chart. What can I say except that Tamar SLAYED it and made an R&B classic, or at least it should be. The vocals, the harmonies, the production... Just perfection. I never thought I would get so into R&B, but Tamar slayed me, and I think has turned me on to more R&B music throughout the year. Definitely a genre I want to explore some more. |

Albums 5-4 | | Macklemore & Ryan Lewis The Heist Total 2013 Points: 60209.8 2013 Songs Charted:- “Can’t Hold Us”
- “Same Love”
- “Thrift Shop”
- “White Walls”
- “Wing$”
Definitely not an album I was expecting to have success from this year. However, that all changed with “Thrift Shop.” This album had big success from that, “Can’t Hold Us,” and “Same Love,” with the most points coming from “Same Love,” which hit #1 for 2 weeks, their only #1. “Can’t Hold Us” is barely behind, and “Thrift Shop” is a little bit further. Honestly, “Can’t Hold Us” and “Thrift Shop” definitely are too low. Their runs got all messy with me going crazy charting songs from the album at once. “Same Love” and “Wing$” debuted in the 6th week charting of “Thrift Shop.” While “Wing$” dropped off the chart after 3 weeks, “Same Love” debuted in the top 10 and hit #1 in its 3rd week. This caused “Thrift Shop” to peak prematurely at #3 before “Same Love” debuted, and descend too early. “Can’t Hold Us” didn’t peak until after “Same Love” fell off the chart, so I’m not sure why it’s so low, but it’s definitely too low with how I actually feel about it. “Wing$” is still charting (after having re-entered) but isn’t being too successful, and “White Walls” performed moderately well. Great album, although I pretty much only listen to the singles. | | | Lady Gaga ARTPOP Total 2013 Points: 62121 2013 Songs Charted:- “Applause”
- “Aura”
- “Do What U Want”
- “Dope”
- “Venus”
This album did great to place so high with “Applause” only charting in the last 20 weeks of 2013. If the album had come out sooner, it very well could have ended up on top. It spawned (so far) 3 #1s (“Applause” for 1 week, “Aura” for 2 weeks, and “Do What U Want” for 11 weeks (so far?), with 10 of those being in 2013), a #3, and a #10. The album had the #1 single, then, for a full 1/4 of the year. In addition, it held the top 2 spots for 6 consecutive weeks, and the top 3 spots for 3 consecutive weeks. Absolute domination there for a while. It’s died way down by now, but it still has 4 songs charting (although one song does fall off in my new chart). It ended up being only 398.8 points away from album #3, and just under 10,000 points away from #1. The album’s position definitely is owed to a strong 2nd single, plus the promo singles giving me more songs eligible to chart. In the end, “Applause” was the most successful song, with “Aura” in a distant 2nd, and “Do What U Want” right on its tail in 3rd. |

No features, so see the album for commentary. Oh and there are like 0 gifs that include both of them so they're stuck with this one lol. | | | Of Monsters and Men Total 2013 Points: 62519.8 2013 Songs Charted:- Dirty Paws
- King and Lionheart
- Little Talks
- Mountain Sound
They slayed my chart this year, no two ways about it. [Oh btw they have like no gifs of them so this is from one of their music videos.] They had 4 singles chart, in order by decreasing (2013) points: “Little Talks,” “Dirty Paws,” “Mountain Sound,” and “King and Lionheart.” “Dirty Paws” and “Mountain Sound” are literally only like 50 points apart. I think I talked about weird chart runs for them with their songs earlier, but just a refresher. “Little Talks” had a normal chart run, peaking at #1 for 5 weeks. One week I really got into their stuff so debuted the other 3 songs all at once. “Dirty Paws” charted at #39 for 2 weeks before dropping off, but I kept “Mountain Sound” and “King and Lionheart” both on. I basically charted them both as singles at the same time. “Mountain Sound” made top 5, but “King and Lionheart” peaked in the teens, and stayed there for several weeks. If I had charted them one after the other, it likely would have been quite a bit more successful. As it is, I then ended up having a 7 week break of no songs by them charting until I re-entered “Dirty Paws,” which had already been a single outside the US, so I could have charted it sooner, possibly placing them higher. Oh well. Highly recommend their work to everyone. |

Josh's Top Album Tracks (final part) "Birthday" by Selena Gomez from Stars DancePossibly, and hopefully, the 3rd single from the album. I LOVE THIS SONG. When I first heard it I was like wtf is this. ;_; Then a few listens later and it was one of my favorites off the album. I live for the sexual moans. It would either flop or smash on radio, I can’t decide which. All I know is that it’s perfect. "Buzzcut Season" by Lorde from Pure HeroineAhhhhhhh. My favorite Lorde song. I don’t know what it is about this song that I love more than her other songs, but I just do. I’ll just leave it at this since the rest would be the same as all the other Lorde song descriptions. "***Flawless" by Beyoncé feat. Chimimanda Ngozi Adiche from BEYONCÉ(This is the song that I decided to add) So that flawless music from the O2 ads was use for “Bow Down” which was released on Beyoncé’s SoundCloud page in “Bow Down/I Been On.” This song is “Bow Down” without “I Been On.” It also has a long talking feature by Chimimanda. Idk her but she’s a feminist, clearly. If you would have explained her feature in the song to me I would have been like ew, but I actually like it. The production and background vocals by Beyoncé during the feature is quite good. I do miss the flawless O2 music being in the song, though. That’s my only qualm. “I woke up like this.” “I look so good tonight, god damn god damn god damn!” So good. "G.U.Y." by Lady Gaga from ARTPOPAhhhhhh. This is absolutely amazing. I was not here for the snippet of this song when it was released, but the full song slayed me. I absolutely love the intro. It’s so good. The production is great and so Zedd. As expected, the chorus kills. Catchy, great production, etc. I love the “breakdown” or instrumental or whatever after the chorus. I also really like the handclaps throughout the song. I often clap along. Oh, and the bridge. SLAY ME GAGZ. “I’ll lay down face up this time” ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. And then in the final chorus, “I’ll lie down face up guy.” The lyrics kill me. In a good way. Needs to be a single. "Honeymoon Avenue" by Ariana Grande from Yours TrulyEverything about this song is literally perfect. The intro SLAYS me. I LOVE strings in songs like that. Then we have the Glee-style (near) acapella sound effects, and then Ariana comes in and slays. Such flawless vocals, amazing production, etc. It all kills. It’s basically everything good about all her songs put together and multiplied by 10. It’s a long song, 5:40 long, but its length works in its favor. It has a flawless introduction, and a few changes throughout the song giving it variety. Every part of the song is just amazing. "Jewels N’ Drugs" by Lady Gaga feat. T.I., Too $hort, and Twista from ARTPOPOne of the most hated songs on the album. In a sense I understand why since it’s not what Gaga does or her fans want for the most part. However, it’s hip-hopga and it’s amazing. Featuring verses from T.I., Too $hort, and Twista, Gaga is pretty much only on the chorus. She does have her own chorus, but for a Gaga song there’s not a whole lot of her. However, the features are great so it’s not necessarily a bad thing. And then there’s the production. DJWS giving us some trap, and he does not let down. I especially like it during Too $hort’s verse starting at 2:01, and also during Twista’s verse. The song simply slays. I hope they at least send it to urban/rhythmic. "She Did That" by Tamar Braxton from Love and WarToo short. Simply too short. I hope we end up getting the full song one way or another. It’s too good to not have the full song, similar to “Birthday Cake.” At 0:45 when the song changes to the chorus, slay me a little lot, Tamar! While this doesn’t show off her vocals like so many of her other songs, this is a great jam that could have been a big hit on urban, imo. The production is killer. "Stay Awake" by Ellie Goulding from Halcyon DaysOk so technically this came out in 2012, but it was only available in the UK and only if you bought Halcyon from Tesco I think it was. It was officially released on Halcyon Days this year, which is why I included it. Madeon gracing us with another of his flawless productions. I hope it becomes a single but I doubt it. It’s just a great dance song by Ellie, a la “Figure 8,” and everything of Madeon’s lol.

So far I have correctly predicted "Atlas", "The One" and "Love & War". Which means your top 3 of 2013is like mine save for "Safe And Sound". I actually charted "Birthday". :) It ended up peaking at #16. It might re-enter once it gets released as a single, if it ever does... :(

I mean, if Demi gets one...

So I accidentally deleted "Get Like Me" from my Excel archives. It subsequently was deleted from the year-end songs and albums. However, it was there for artists. ;_;
"Get Like Me" is actually song #51 and pushes everything below it down 1 spot. M.O. is actually album #45 and pushes everything below it down 1 spot.
It peaked at #4, charted for 12 weeks, got 9,508 points, and is 2x Platinum. It has a chart run of 42-23-18-12-8-6-6-4-8-16-32-48. Lol at it going 4-8-16-32 and doubling each week.
