Nick's Top 100 (October 26, 2014)

Okay, so my love for a certain song has prompted a rule change this week. International singles will be able to chart, but under certain circumstances:
-the artist must not have another single currently charting
-must be available on US iTunes, whether it be the song or video
-the artist has to have charted before under the original criteria
These rules are meant to keep the chart under control. I have enough songs debuting anyway, so these rules are meant to stop the chart from becoming too much of a mess.

I will make a list of songs that would have charted under the new conditions since the chart's creation, and post it probably next week. For now, the five songs benefitting this week are
-Ellie Goulding's "Figure 8"
-Conor Maynard's "Animal"
-Calvin Harris's "Drinking from the Bottle"
-Flo Rida's "Let It Roll"
-The Script's "If You Could See Me Now"

-Ellie Goulding's "Figure 8" becomes the fourth song to debut at #1. It debuts due to a rule change so you could say it's this chart's "Harlem Shake" ;) It easily surpasses the #18 and #37 peaks of "Lights" and "Anything Could Happen" to become her biggest hit on the chart. This also marks the first time the chart had back-to-back #1 debuts.
-Demi Lovato's "Heart Attack" slides 1-2, ending a 4-week reign at the top. It has a chance of returning next week.
-Four other songs debut thanks to the rule change. Conor Maynard's "Animal" debuts at #7, surpassing the #13 peak of "Vegas Girl" to become his biggest hit. Calvin Harris's "Drinking from the Bottle" starts at #10, tieing "Feel So Close" as his second biggest hit behind "Let's Go" (#2). Flo Rida's "Let It Roll" debuts at #33. The Script's "If You Could See Me Now" debuts at #36.
-It's a very slow week in terms of upwards movement. Only 3 songs rise 5 or more places. Justin Timberlake's "Mirrors" is the Greatest Gainer, rising 39-29. Zedd's "Clarity" rises 43-34, surpassing the #39 peak of "Spectrum" to become his biggest hit. Fun.'s "Carry On" rises 35-30. Ne-Yo's "Forever Now" has the Biggest Fall, dropping 28-41.
-Darius Rucker makes his first chart appearance with "Wagon Wheel" debuting at #48.
-Mariah Carey's "Almost Home" debuts at #49, spurred by Oz the Great and Powerful. She previously reached #22 with "Triumphant (Get 'Em)".
-Rihanna debuts at #50 with "Loveeeeeee Song". It is her ninth song charted as a lead artist. The song features Future, meaning he has four singles on the chart this week, the most for any artist since Lil Wayne in November 2011 (with "She Will", "Mirror", "Strange Clouds", and "The Motto"). He is also on the chart with Ace Hood's "Bugatti" at #14, Lil Wayne's "Love Me" at #21, and his own "Neva End" at #35, and is now Bubbling Under with his newest single, "Karate Chop".
-will.i.am's "#thatPOWER" drops out from #29, though it is not purged, and moves to #51 on the Bubbling Under chart.

Just wondering with this rule: if, say, an artist had a song falling on your chart that had been on for several months, and you wanted to chart their new single, would you let it on or wait for the previous single to fall off?

Happy to see "Almost Home" and "Lov7 Song" debut as well. And also nice to see Bruno, P!nk, JT, fun., OM&M, Icona Pop and Emeli climbing! I'd like if Ariana, Avicii and Youngblood Hawke can chart. And yay for Taio flashback!

As for your question, I would wait until the song fell off. Most songs only take a few weeks to fall off though, so it wouldn't really be such a big deal. For example, "Sweet Nothing"'s fall was 12-16-24-38-off. That wouldn't have been much of a wait to chart "Drinking from the Bottle". Everything falls hard, so that shouldn't really pose a problem.

Just some facts:
-"Lego House", "Feel This Moment", "Little Talks" and "Troublemaker" are the only songs to chart in all 13 weeks counted.
-"Feel This Moment" ranks at #2 despite only peaking at #3. The rest of the Top 7 have all reached #1.
-"Troublemaker" is the highest ranking song to not reach the Top 5. It has peaked at #9.
-"Suit & Tie" is the highest ranking song to not reach the Top 10. It has peaked at #12 so far.
-"Where You Are" has the least weeks charted of the 50 songs on the list. It ranks at #44 after only 3 weeks.
-"When I Was Your Man" is the only song on the list to not reach the Top 20 or be certified Platinum.
-Ellie Goulding's "Figure 8" is the only #1 song not on the list. It currently ranks at #60 after just one week on the chart (spent at #1).

I definitely wouldn't name "Lego House" and "Feel This Moment" as my favorite songs of the year so far, but both songs were timed perfectly, with the former only in its second week on the first chart of 2013, while the latter just debuted that week. I'd say my Top 2 would be "Heart Attack" and "Wings", but they're still climbing. Other than that, this seems pretty accurate :)

-Justin Timberlake's "Suit & Tie" rises 12-9, completing an 11-week climb to the Top 10. It is JT's first Top 10.
-Bruno Mars's "When I Was Your Man" rises 24-17 and is officially certified Platinum. It accomplishes this in its 12th week, making it the longest trip to a Platinum certification.
-Florida Georgia Line's pop remix of "Cruise" debuts at #31. The originial country smash peaked at #48.

- "Can't Hold Us", "Drinking From the Bottle" and "Suit & Tie" jump inside the Top 10. Good! ("Drinking From the Bottle" has outpeaked the peak it had on my chart! )
- Nice climbs of "22", "Just Give Me a Reason" and "Mirrors". The three of them are near to crack inside the Top 20 :)
- "Carry On", "Clarity", "Kisses Down Low", "Mountain Sound", "I Love It" and "Next to Me" climb :)

Thanks Tick/Tock! It's a great song! You should really listen to it. Demi will always do well on this chart, so no worries there ;) I'm loving "The Way" as well, so expect a nice rise this week.

-Demi Lovato's "Heart Attack" returns to the top for a fifth week, tying it with "What Makes You Beautiful" and "As Long As You Love Me" as the second longest charting #1s ever, behind Demi's own "Give Your Heart a Break" at 10 weeks. Coincidentally, all 4 songs had split runs at #1.
-Selena Gomez's "Come & Get It" debuts at #2, making it the third song to debut in the runner up spot after Taylor Swift's "Eyes Open" and One Direction's "They Don't Know About Us". It is Selena's third song to chart, and her first without The Scene. Her last two singles both reached #1.
-Ace Hood's "Bugatti" rises 11-7. It is his first Top 10 hit. It is the seventh urban hit to reach the Top 10 without pop support, following Big Sean's "Marvin & Chardonnay", Waka Flocka Flame's "I Don't Really Care", Usher's "Lemme See", 2 Chainz's "No Lie", DJ Khaled's "Take It to the Head", and Wiz Khalifa's "Remember You".
-Cher Lloyd's "With Ur Love" rises 12-8, making her 3/3 in the Top 10. She reached #4 with "Oath" and #9 with "Want U Back" (#robbed). She is surprisingly the first artist to reach the Top 10 with his or her first three singles (though many would have accomplished this before the chart's creation).
-A$AP Rocky's "Wild for the Night" debuts at #15. The unique Skrillex collab is already the biggest hit for A$AP, passing the #18 peak of "F**kin' Problems", his only other song charted.
-Blake Lewis's "Your Touch" rises 20-16, finally surpassing its debut position of #17 after 5 weeks.
-Calvin Harris's "Drinking from the Bottle" sets a record fall from the Top 10, dropping 8-23. Expect international singles to not last very long.
-Selena is joined by three other new releases, meaning a record four songs debut in their release week. Avril Lavigne's "Here's to Never Growing Up" starts at #33, Luke Bryan's "Crash My Party" starts at #38, and We the Kings's "Just Keep Breathing" starts at #43. It is the second chart appearance for Avril and Kings, and the fourth for Luke.
-Tim McGraw and 3OH!3 both earn their second hit with "Highway Don't Care" (#47) and "Back to Life" (#49) respectively.
