Can't wait! Glad that Wildflower isn't the first single, it didn't sound very radio-friendly. Hopefully this is radio-friendly enough, but strays away from the over-produced sound of her past few singles.

I'm sure this will do just fine regardless of how radio-friendly it is in comparison to other recent hits.
Sheryl Crow has successfully established herself for good, and this should effortlessly go Top 5 at both Hot AC and Triple A without even hearing the track.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

This was played on BBC Radio 2 today, and I just so happened to catpure a stream :) The quality kinda fades in and out because of the BEYOND shitty stream. I HATE BBC's streams, they are always uneven. But I tried! you can at least hear it pretty well. rapidshare.de/files/2807622/Sheryl_Crow_-_Good_Is_Good__BBC_Radio_Rip_.mp3.htmlI don't know.. on first listen... it's not bad, but I was expecting better and more of a return to form for her. The production isn't as horrid as The First Cut... but it's still not like any of her 90's material. Maybe it'll grow on me. I do notice that the vocals are stronger than her recent tracks. I can hear a HINT of The Globe Sessions, especially on the bridge... It should be a hit for her though, especially on Hot AC.

This is almost hookless. I had to actually listen back to see if I could find it. I've never thought anything she's done is really bad, but this has to be her weakest lead single to date and one of her weakest period. The lyrics are pretty weak for her too. That opening line made me cringe. "Good is good and bad is bad." Okay..

I like it, but I agree that it is hookless. It's a really bad single choice. If this is supposedly single material, I'd hate to hear the rest of the album. ... Actually, which album will this be on? The more poppy one?

This doesn't sound that deep or political to me.

Nope, this one is off of the "artsy" album set for September 26 or 27, whatever Tuesday is.
The other two songs I've heard from the album (that I'm assuming made the cut) are Wildflower and I Know Why... both of which are 10x better than this.

I'm a pretty big Sheryl fan but for some reason I'm not looking forward to this at all. I think Sheryl's really out of touch with this project- which is a shame because she's the last of the 90s HAC ladies that HAC radio would still send straight to #1 today, with a smart lead single.

I've never thought anything she's done is really bad, but this has to be her weakest lead single to date and one of her weakest period. The lyrics are pretty weak for her too. That opening line made me cringe. "Good is good and bad is bad." Okay.. This single definitely has a hook. I can hear it clearly within the "rolling thunder" and "lightning strikes" portion. This single may not be as immediate as "The First Cut Is The Deepest", "My Favorite Mistake" or "Steve McQueen", but this will still hit here. And, yes, this track isn't political at all. Here's the lyrics: * Good is good and bad is bad But you don't know which one you have She put your books out on the sidewalk Now they're blowin round But they don't help you when you're down Loves on your list of things to do To bring your good light back to you If you think everything's unfair Would you care if you're the last one standing there And every time you hear the rolling thunder You turn and run before the lightening strikes And does it ever make you stop and wonder If all your good times have passed you by I dont hold no mystery But I can show you how to turn the key Cause all I know is where I started I was so downhearted And that's not where you want to be And everytime you hear the rolling thunder You turn and run before the lightening strikes If you could find a rock to crawl right under and let your good times pass you by When the day is gone and the world is sleeping And the moon is on its way to shine All your friends are gone You've got a soul worth keeping You feel you don't belong but you don't know why And everytime you hear the rolling thunder You turn and run before the lightening strikes And does it ever make you stop and wonder If all your good times have passed you by Everytime you hear the rolling thunder And you turn and run before the lightening strikes Does it ever make you stop and wonder When the day is gone and the world is sleeping And the moon is on its way to shine All your friends are gone You've got a soul worth keeping You feel you don't belong but you don't know why* Despite that it's a given hit for this format, I believe it isn't going to do nearly as well as many of her previous singles at CHR/Pop ("The First Cut Is The Deepest", "Soak Up The Sun", "My Favorite Mistake") which all went Top 20. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I want to share something with you here that I believe you will all find incredibly amusing.
"Good is Good and Bad Is Bad" has indeed been said often, but look at the lyrics to this song by Klaatu:
*
"Ooh good is good and bad is bad As any baker knows But too too much good can be as sadly sad As too much bad you know
Mrs. Crow fancied flowers She picked them in fields windblown But when she'd filled her vases with beautiful blossoms Well there wasn't any left to grow Oh no No there wasn't any left to grow
Ooh good is good and bad is bad As any gardener knows But too too much good can be as sadly sad As too much bad you know."
*
Consider the following:
1) Whether its purely coincidental or not, Crow's name appears in this song which also happens to have that introductory lyric.
2) One of the new songs on Sheryl's new album is titled "Wildflowers". Same muse here?
*
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Wow. I actually kind of like this song.
The verses sound Lynyrd Skynardy.
The bridge is very awkward though.
The "rolling thunder, lightning strikes" part definitley sticks with me.

This is definitely far from old school Sheryl. Instead of letting the songs write themsleves like she used to, it's almost as if she keeps trying to write the perfect hook. I'm not complaining that much, though. It didn't grab me on first listen, but around the third time I really got into it. Could even be another pop hit from her...

CHR/Pop won't play her music anymore due to that format's target demo switch, but since she's far and away the #1 female vocalist at Hot AC, who cares???????
New music from Ms. Crow is ALWAYS welcome---GREAT news!!!!!

The First Cut Is The Deepest went to #11 on pop radio in March 2004. I would actually argue that pop radio has moved BACK toward artists like Sheryl Crow and that type of music, not further away from it.

JCMF3, I'm not sure how welcome Ms. Crow is at CHR/Pop radio these days, but her chart peaks over the past three years (for 'Soak Up The Sun', 'Picture' & 'First Cut Is The Deepest' were aberrations, IMHO.
If 'Soak Up The Sun' had come out a decade ago, it would have undoubtedly been the biggest single of that decade; it's as close to being a quintessential pop song as anything that pop chart masters such as Daryl Hall & John Oates, Roxette, Phil Collins, or Heuy Lewis and the News dominated the charts with in the eighties and early nineties.
CHR/Pop hasn't shown any signs to me of returning to its roots as a MASS-APPEAL format, especially when the CHR/Pop and CHR/Rhythmic charts have TONS of the same songs on both surveys, well in excess of 70%, and probably higher than that.
I posted several weeks ago that Kidd Kraddick of KHKS in Dallas was #1 in morning drive in adults 25-54, which is almost unheard of and EXTREMELY rare these days, as a recent profile/article in R&R reported.
That accomplishment is EXTREMELY rare as well, and a great acknowledgement of Mr. Kraddick's position as arguably the #1 CHR/Pop radio personality in America, succeeding Rick Dees.
I don't know if KK and KHKS are playing as much rhythmic music as KIIS-FM, but the fact that Ryan Seacrest is now #4 overall in morning drive is also very good new for the format, since KIIS-FM was tied for SEVENTH in morning drive when Clear Channel fired Rick Dees.
If CHR/Pop radio starts moving away from being dominated by a handful of producers and back towards returning to its roots as a SONG-DRIVEN (or songwriter-driven, if you will) format, then hopefully there will be more success stories for the format, such as KIIS-FM hitting #1 again for the first time in EIGHTEEN years!!!!!!

Peaking in the 30s and 40s are "aberrations." Three singles peaking in the top 20 (one in the top 10) - that is far from a mere drop in the bucket. These are songs pop listeners grasped onto. What is the point of this? Look, pop music goes through phases. Things and music that were popular ten years ago are no longer popular. Some people like today's pop - others don't. Period. Whether or not Soak Up The Sun would have been the #1 single of the 90s is moot and just adds an unecessary paragraph to your rant.

This is an ok song. Better than I was expecting with all the bad reviews. This is basic, but it is definitly better than anything on the C'mon C'mon album. Still, this song doesn't make me interested in the new album at all...

I like it. Like the hook, like the minor keys, like the strings. Like the ending.
This will go top five HAC.

I heard this on the radio today (WJLK). It sounded better than I expcted on radio... it's actually a really nice song. The verses seem instantly familiar, but what makes this only a good song instead of a great song is the fact that there really is no hook.

I think the Everytime you hear the rolling thunder part is a decent hook my self, it's good, not great but it sticks in my head after 3-4 listens now. I say Top 10 at Hot AC and Pop (who cares anymore?)
