Just heard this on DC's Z104. What an awesome song! Didn't even recognize that it was Collective Soul at first. It doesn't sound anything like "Counting The Days" or the stuff off their previous albums. Good to see these guys breaking new ground. Like the sax at the end. Hope this gets an adds date, at least at Hot AC, where it could be huge!
It's got 15 spins on the rolling Hot AC chart right now, presumably all from Z104.

This song is alright. I really thought they were going to go with "How Do You Love".

I like this song, but I didn't know it was going to HotAC. How Do You Love? seems like a smash hit waiting to happen.

I like the song, but this is not a good single choice It's risky for them, but I don't know if I agree. It is very pop friendly. This could go places.

I like this. I don't think "Accidentally In Love"-type success on Pop and a top 20 on Hot AC is out of the question. Collective Soul and the Counting Crows are in similar circumstances -- bands with declining popularity release a poppy song from a movie soundtrack. But I will say that "Shrek" did much more for "AIL" than "Cursed" will likely do for this song.

This is starting to get some play on HOTAC now. Not catching fire or anything, but a couple of stations have picked it up.

This song sounds so familiar to me. The "yeah-yeah" part at the very beginning. What other song has something like that? Anyone? It's driving me crazy.

Biggest jumper of the week at Triple A moving 27-18. I think you're looking at charts one week before. The laest update had Collective Soul in the Top 15 there. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I saw them perform this on Leno last night. It was just okay. They seemed kind of boring to me. I just wasn't impressed with Ed Roland at all. His look, his stage presence, his voice. I've never seen them perform live before and this wasn't a good first impression, unfortunately. The rest of the band was so anonymous. Actually, I don't even think it was their regular drummer. Anyone else see it?
And don't mean to be a total girl here, but he could look soooo much better if he did something with his hair. It is so unflattering, IMO.

I don't know what's going on with their regular drummer. If they don't get a hit out of this album, they are done. I don't think they are even close to making any money off this at the moment. Too bad, the music on it is great.

Too bad, the music on it is great. I figured this album would go nowhere to begin with. But it seems "Better Now" is starting much better than I would have ever predicted. It's bound to go Top 10 at Triple A, and Hot AC seems willing at the moment to give it a chance too. However, I do believe they'll never again reach a mass audience. The best case scenario in my mind for them is that they can pull off occasional hits to this format like Live seems to have began doing since getting shoved out the door of Alternative. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I figured this album would go nowhere to begin with. It's kind of tough to make it on an Indie. In some ways you almost have to be impressed that they are getting any airplay after moving to an Indie

Sincerely, Noah Eaton I agree mostly, and it is tough on indie, but if "Better Now" can be a moderate Top 30 hit at Hot AC it will set up "How Do You Love?" at this format and I think it is a Top 15 hit, even Top 10. It's their best since "The world i know". But at Rock they still have presence,so 2-3 formats playing your songs on a indie label is pretty lucky..........

I don't think my Hot AC station will play "Better Now". But the DJ e-mailed me months ago that they would play "How Do You Love?". Can't wait to hear this on the radio. It was totally stuck in my head all day yesterday.

Are you guys sure they'll still release "How Do You Love?" even if "Better Now" flops?

Are you guys sure they'll still release "How Do You Love?" even if "Better Now" flops? Better Now I think is getting promotion from the Soundtrack to Cursed, and since Collective Soul decides what to push rather than a label, I think it will at least get released. Have no idea how it will do though.

This is really picking up steam now. 3 more adds and it seems to me it must not be very far away from the top20 at this point. Okay I checked, it's actually #23 and rising.

I've finally heard this track, and I've got to tell you, I couldn't even recognize them as Collective Soul until they said, "New Collective Soul on KINK-FM!".
Is that even the same lead singer? (I don't necessarily follow up on Collective Soul's bio). If it is, the lead vocalist sounds sooooooo different from their glory days. His voice is so much more deeper, masculine and soulful.
Even their sound is much rawer than ever before.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

It is the same lead singer. The only difference in the band is that their lead guitarist left and was replaced by a good, capable, even if unoriginal guitarist.
Essentially the lead singer is the band in this case, writes the songs, makes the decisions etc. So, no Ed Roland, no Collective Soul.

Essentially the lead singer is the band in this case, writes the songs, makes the decisions etc. So, no Ed Roland, no Collective Soul. Well, I couldn't even recognize Ed Roland from the days of "The World I Know" and what not. His voice is so much different now. When I first heard the track, at the intro I thought it was a Lenny Kravitz song or something, because the drumbeat and the electric crunch is fused in a lot of his songs. Then hearing the voice I thought it was Kenny Wayne Shepherd or something. I can't decide if this is a good or bad thing. Personally, if others feel like me toward Collective Soul sounding different both musically and vocally, it may be more of a bad thing for the band if they want to become a Top 40 sensation again. But they also sound very confident and fresh all the same. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

This appears destined to just miss the top20 at the moment unless the #20 song continues it's rapid descent. It is sitting at #21 and it has stopped pulling in adds in the last few days, sitting at 61 stations playing and a shrinking bullet despite picking up continual adds up until about 4 days ago. Still a bit better than I was expecting.
Also an update on the album, it has sold over 120,000 copies which isn't bad for an Indie, good enough, in fact that they are now putting out an acoustic EP for release next Tuesday and a live album and DVD for later this year. They seem to be putting something behind this, which might mean "How Do You Love" will actually be a big hit, we'll have to see.

This is their best work IMO since their debut single in 1994. This could go for pop adds or did it?

This song is still picking up stations. #17 and possibly rising. Better than I expected so far. But will any of this result in album sales?
