First listen...who is this?
Second listen...where's that voice that I love?
5th listen...I think I see where they are going here!
10th listen...I love this song...quickly becoming my favorite MB20 song.
I'm back on the MB20 bandwagon. MB20 does power pop/punk and I love it. Fast paced, quick and repetitive lyrics that carry a punch, great musicianship.
I really couldn't ask for more from them. I'm so GLAD this isn't a Daughtery/Nickleback retread. Not that I would have ever thought they would go in that direction but damn I'm glad they didn't. :)
Prediction - their biggest hit yet once people come around to the new sound.

I have to be completely honest with you on this one.
I began following charts and everything like a complete nerd since about 1997, right around when Push hovered around #40 for what seemed like two months on the CHR\POP chart. Anyways, I have really seen this group develop so I was excited, but not crazy excited for when this song was released. I thought it was way too early, mainly because Little Wonders still is rising on CHR\POP and just left the Top 10 on Hot AC (which it looks like it will be one of the Top 15-20 hits on Hot AC). When I first heard it, I thought it was too simple, and there was nothing really to it. But then I noticed that the bullet was just going out of control so I kept giving it another listen. After about three times, I really can't get the chorus out of my head what so ever. It's fast paced, simple, easy, and actually, fresh to radio. I must say this is as well becoming one of my favorite Matchbox hits. It might be too early to tell but I really think this could go #1 on Hot AC, and possibly Top 20 on CHR\POP. It's amazing how much Matchbox Twenty and Rob as a solo artist seem to be considered seperate.
I'm really excited to watch this one go. When is the album released, October? That gives it about 9 to 10 weeks to head to the top and that should, and could easily be possible for around this song's peak.
It would not surprise me if Matchbox gets two or even three singles or the four new ones on the compilation. I think the 50's-esque type of song could be a breath of fresh air to all formats as well much like Phil Collin's "Two Hearts" and "Don't Hurry Love" which are still AC staples.
Very impressive. Very simple.

^ Personally, I still think "Over You" will hit #1 and block this.

Top 30 already. 29 MATCHBOX TWENTY How Far We've Come 2007 Melisma/Atlantic 678 0 678 4.975 This is climbing up REALLY FAST! I'm gonna be so happy if Matchbox 20 makes a REAL comeback!! (I mean huge Top 40 airplay not just Hot AC and huge CD sales!!) Someone said (forget which panel) that word is...M20 has even bigger (new) hits on their CD and this single is just an "intro single" - "3 a. m." was much bigger than "Push" (lead single) and "Long Day" if you count that and "Unwell" was much bigger than "Disease" (lead single) - and if you count AC, "If You're Gone" was much bigger than "Bent" (lead single)

Sorry for the two postings - FINALLY HEARD THIS SONG!!! (Q100 added it) -
Major Fall Out Boy, Panic At The Disco style - not necessarily lovin' it personally, but glad it'll definitely put M20 back on the map at CHR/Pop!!

Yea, and the reason they'd be back at POP, is because the song stinks! A lot of the pop songs aren't worth airtime...neither is MB20's latest. We went from a song like Unwell, to a song like this? I think this time Rob has smoked too much pot!

Yeah but at least it's somethin different - I really thought Rob was in a "rut" during his last solo CD when CHR stopped playing most of his songs - a lot of cities don't have Hot AC's and I'm just glad Matchbox 20 is gonna be back on the radio big time EVERYWHERE not just in select cities If Rob goes back to writing any more songs like "Unwell" i. e. any more sad breakup songs he's gonna be completely off CHR and confined to Hot AC - he's beaten the breakup thing to death IMO!!!

I don't think you need to worry about Rob writing a break-up song..seeing he's married..unless he gets divorced, I doubt he'd write another song like that. IMO

IMO I always wondered about that - wasn't he married when he wrote "Lonely No More" and "This Is How A Heart Breaks"? Or maybe those were songs he'd written years before that M20 didn't want to release so he waited til he released a solo album, anyway - glad he's tied the knot!! I was beginning to get worried about him about the time he released "Disease" "Unwell" and "Bright Lights"

^ He got married in 1999, though, so he's had the breakup syndrome in him all this time. ;)

I think it's easy to see and hear that there were a lot of influences that went into HFWC and perhaps all of them weren't necessarily good influences. Rob Thomas didn't write the song by himself so I don't think he should take all of the blame if someone doesn't like it. Paul Doucette and Kyle Cook have both complained in past interviews that they didn't like the fact that Matchbox Twenty had moved away from their harder sound and I think that HFWC is the result of their complaints. I don't think I would categorize "How Far We've Come" as a rock song. I'm not sure what I would call it actually.

I think Bent and Unwell are more about not fitting in or feeling screwed up than break up songs. And I saw an interview with Rob where he said that Lonely No More had no deep meaning to it whatsoever. He said it is just a "shake your ass" song. :) Rob does seem to write with a lot of angst and I love it!

I think there's a segment of MB20's fanbase that has been pretty vocal about wanting Kyle and Paul to have more input into the songwriting. I have been hesitant on this since Rob's songwriting is what drew me to the band in the first place (and his voice of course ). Anyway, why mess up a good thing. And one of the songs that Rob did share songwriting credits on, Feel, is one of my least favorite songs by the group. Having said that, since I absolutely love HFWC, I'll give the collaboration an A at this point. I still need to hear the other five songs to give you an overall grade but I'm much more encouraged today that I was a week and a half ago. I still think the lyrics sound very "Rob" to me.

Here's another great sign for MB20. Influential AAA station KFOG in San Fransico has given the song three spins. The number of spins isn't much but the fact that they've haven't played anything by MB20 in years (as far as I know) and have at least decided to test the waters with the song IS big news!

You're prob. right about "Unwell" - "Bent" and "If You're Gone" are pretty deep relationship songs, though - still think it must be weird to hear your spouse sing these songs unless you guys are going through tensions, troubles, etc. - they also might have been written before '99 though Anyhow (different note) - did you guys ever think you'd see a Matchbox 20 song that's getting much better "reviews" on the CHR/Pop panel than on the Hot AC panel??? (I think every post on CHR/Pop has been "This is one of the best songs I ever heard!" while its getting "mixed reviews" on this panel - WEIRD!!

People on the Hot AC panel tend to not like pop-leading music as much, it seems (hence the Fall Out Boy comparisons- although I don't get those at all :) ). Either way, it's almost top 20 here. 44 21 MATCHBOX TWENTY How Far We've Come 2007 Melisma/Atlantic 909 265 644 5.042

I'm starting to have a gut feeling this might go #1. They're my favorite band, but I really wanted "Over You" to make it to the top. Heck, I might end up liking this better.

(I think every post on CHR/Pop has been "This is one of the best songs I ever heard!" while its getting "mixed reviews" on this panel - WEIRD!! Rob has said in interviews that he is a happily married guy, but sometimes when he and his wife fight he feels that pit in his stomach and later uses that feeling as inspiration to write songs. Songs that release the angst he feels when he thinks about the idea that he could lose his wife. He says it is a way for him to release his tension over the fight and then they grow and move on from it. From all I've read and heard, they are a remarkably close couple. Doing everything together. She is gorgeous and he's not too shabby either. I don't know which one got the better end of the deal. But they seem to be the perfect couple. Hope I didn't just jinx them! ;) I think it's neat it's getting such a great reception from pop fans. I'm more a Hot AC fan, but the song has really grown on me. Not my fave MB20 song, but I still like it a lot. Just soooo damn catchy! My station hasn't started playing it yet and I can't wait to hear it for the first time on the radio. I love to sing along to the "where you going man you know the world is headed for hell" line. :)
