Wasn't the Clear Channel deal for "Born This Way" a week? There was never any confirmation that that had a radio deal, and the song wasn't introduced by the "brought to you by Interscope records" (or whatever) tag that they require the play is preceded by in order to not be considered payola.

Wasn't the Clear Channel deal for "Born This Way" a week? The song was released on the Friday morning, and I think the deal (or whatever it was) lasted through the weekend, so for three days, but I'm not certain. That's the longest one I can think of. Edit: yeah ... I'm still not sure if it was a radio deal or stations just deciding to play it that much, which would be completely understandable given her hype at that point. Either way, I'm pretty sure the top-of-the-hour play was only for three days, but she did continue with very high airplay after that.

Well, I can't be against the radio deals now. For time reasons, only one day cannot inflate too much so logically the unbelievable off the charts huge moves for the first week have to have happened naturally for all of these songs. That is sort of amazing to me because I would have never assumed something like GMAYL would have massive, massive first week numbers if the deal was only for a day especially since pretty much everyone stopped playing it on the 8th day lol. I always assumed that the faster movement than we have ever seen for a song+unbelievable 8th day losses=more than a 24 hour period for a deal.
Now I can be more impressed by the crazy first weeks we see that I know the entire week is natural except for one 24 hour period :)

Well, if stations were paid to play "Give Me All Your Luvin'" on the hour on day one, that would certainly have increased its exposure, and I'm guessing many stations that continued to play it through the week may not have done so if it wasn't shoved in their faces in the first place. I can't say for sure how much of a difference that makes, but I would count it as a significant factor.

The deal still serves as promotion that the song wouldn't have otherwise had, which adds to the overall hype behind the release and may lead the station to place the song in higher rotation for the first week than they may have otherwise. I mean, on that first day of the deal, the song is pretty much instantly put into high rotation.

Yeah, but I don't think it would be that much of a factor. Not every station will keep a song/artist they don't like on high rotation for 6 days after they are paid to do so. It just amazes me because I assumed Madonna specifically was pretty much over at radio, but if she got those unbelievably massive, huge numbers at first naturally it definitely means she isn't! Radio doesn't give a song that HUGE of a first week if the artist is basically considered over at pop radio. Wow. Madonna needs to get a better song and try another comeback. Very encouraging results for her except for the weakness of the song.
Ok, back to Christina, but I am just amazed that I have to change my opinion about radio deals now! lol.

With an update like that, the radio promo apparently did not include Saturday. Wow. Thank you for this riveting information. I was so confused because this idea was not already brought up in three of the four posts directly above yours. If not for you I'm sure everyone here would still be trying to figure out what the fuck happened with today's update. So please keep up with these truly insightful comments, this board is in dire need of your presence.

Dug up Madonna's first seven days on CHR/Pop: DAY 1: 1,005 spins DAY 2: 1,289 spins DAY 3: 912 spins DAY 4: 292 spins DAY 5: 310 spins DAY 6: 355 spins DAY 7: 406 spins ... which added up to a seven-day total of 4,569 spins, 70% of which came from the first three days. I honestly don't think that's all that impressive. I mean, the numbers from when she had the deal certainly are, but 300-400 spins per day following that? Not so unbelievably massive and huge to me. But yes, back to Christina. :)

This song is really growing on me, especially the riff after the bridge and over the first line of the final chorus. It's a fun, catchy song. Hate the lyrics but that's to be expected-- she actually sounds good and comfortable on this song instead of how awkward "Not Myself Tonight" was.

astronut, you're just too witty, so I won't bother attempting an as-witty retort to your comments. Except that ,as hard as it may be to believe, not everyone reads every single post in a thread.
GMAYL's promo was from Friday morning through early Sunday evening (though I imagine it wasn't played hourly during syndicated programs?) It had 44 million BDS audience for its first five day- so, it had about 6m from the two days after the promo ended. It then dipped to 20 million for its second week, a full seven days. And then, it was at 18 million in the third week. By that time, radio decided that it wasn't going to keep playing it- and then it dropped swiftly thereafter. It did manage five weeks on Pop Songs, though.

Honestly, this is not THAT different than NMT, which I still like. It's just that everything about Xtina's star power/positioning has changed. Hit.

I didn't think "Not Myself Tonight" was catchy at all. This has been stuck in my head. I think there are some sonic similarities between the two songs, but this has a much stronger melody.

Omg, are they only releasing the "love your body" version? That's all that's on Australian iTunes too. I can't deal with not getting the "fuck your body" in HQ. That would be pretty disappointing. :'(

They better release the explicit, the fuck your body line is so unintentionally comical, the song would not be the same without it.

NMT was really lame to me. Like, I cannot imagine it being a big hit even if she was at her peak and everyone loved her. Your Body is much better. It sounds like a single to me.

This shit is so infectious! Much much better than the uneventful Not Myself Tonight. I really want this to be at the very least a top 10 hit.
And I think Fuck Your Body sounds better than Love Your Body
