Jann Wenner is out on Jan. 1st! hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=318091&title=SYKES-TO-RUN-ROCK-HALL-OF-FAME-ORGWednesday, September 25, 2019 SYKES TO RUN ROCK HALL OF FAME ORGJohn Sykes will take over Jann Wennerโs role as Chairman of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, concluding a 13-year run for the Rolling Stone founder. Sykes, President of Entertainment Enterprises for iHeartMedia, co-founded MTV and VH1 and has been a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame board for 25 years. โJann Wenner is a cultural legend,โ Sykes says. โItโs an honor to serve the foundation in this new capacity, and to build on Jannโs legacy.โ Sykes takes the job on 1/1; Wenner will remain on the board of directors. Wenner was one of the founding members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and has been chairman since the death of the first chairman, Ahmet Ertegun, in 2006. โI was a lucky man to be given this once in a lifetime mission to honor the history of the music I love. I am delighted to have John Sykes to take over,โ said Wenner, who founded Rolling Stone in 1967 and is currently its Editorial Director. Bruce Springsteen, who turned 70 on Monday and is showing no interest in retiring, said "Jann is always the man with a vision and he had a great one for the Hall of Fame. He built a beautiful and credible home for our history and deserves our appreciation and respect for this tremendous accomplishment.โ

Not going to happen but I would be satisfied if Aaliyah is apart of the conversation as possible nominees.

Not a great list of first-year eligibles. These are Future Rock Legend's nominees predictions:
Mรถtley Crรผe Iron Maiden Joy Division / New Order Beck Cyndi Lauper (or Pat Benatar, the Go-Go's, Eurythmics) Willie Nelson Sonic Youth Whitney Houston Notorious B.I.G. Oasis The Doobie Brothers Rage Against the Machine Todd Rundgren The Meters The J. Geils Band
Last year, FRL predicted 19 acts would be on the ballot; ultimately, 15 made it onto the ballot, with seven being FRL predictions.

As you get further into the 90s the list of quality rock acts will get smaller

Notorious B.I.G. indeed may be the best contender of the newly eligibles.

Not sure if this is posted elsewhere, but as this is the pertinent forum for it...
Great to see Pat B. and Whitney H. among the nominees (Pat's hubby Neil G. is listed with her- yay). Here's my usual rundown of nominees, with their number of nominations and years that they've been eligible. Eight acts who have been eligible in previous years receive their first nod, with Notorious B.I.G. as the only first-year-eligible nominee.
* Pat Benatar- first nomination; 21st year of eligibility * Dave Matthews Band- first nomination; second year of eligibility * Depeche Mode- third nomination; 14th year of eligibility * The Doobie Brothers- first nomination; 24th year of eligibility * Judas Priest- second nomination; 21st year of eligibility * Kraftwerk- sixth nomination; 25th year of eligibility * MC5- fifth nomination; 29th year of eligibility * Motรถrhead- first nomination; 18th year of eligibility * Nine Inch Nails- third nomination; sixth year of eligibility * Notorious B.I.G.- first nomination; first year of eligibility * Rufus featuring Chaka Khan- fourth nomination; 22nd year of eligibility * Soundgarden- first nomination; ninth year of eligibility * T. Rex- first nomination; 27th year of eligibility * Thin Lizzy- first nomination; 25th year of eligibility * Todd Rundgren- second nomination; 25th year of eligibility * Whitney Houston- first nomination; 11th year of eligibility

Ooh with Janet getting in last year and Whitney being nominated this year, it seems like they are getting over their bias of 'pop divas.'

Biggie? Iโm a fan of Ready to Die, but Iโm gonna have to pass on that one. Chaka is due for a crowning. Give Dave Matthews Band their flowers. And Iโm rooting for Whitney as well, even though it would be bittersweet.

This year is going by so fast that it's hard to believe that it's that time to induct again. I'm really happy that Whitney is included in the list of nominees!

Sigh. Another year of Carole King missing the ballot as an artist. With all the people that have been inducted multiple times, (since she's in as a non-performing writer) it certainly seems like she warrants it as well. I was hoping her snubs over the years were a result of some spat she had with Jann Wenner, I don't know. I don't get it.
If you're just taking her singing career and keeping her writer work in the 60s separate, she made one of the most influential albums of all time and had a highly successful career for much of the 70s after that. Several top 5 albums, including two more hitting No. 1. Generations of artists have cited her as a major influence. What more do they need?

Janet wasn't inducted on her first nomination, though. However, she was inducted sooner following her first nomination, vs. how many years she had to wait for that first nod.
The back-and-forth over nominating Rufus/Chaka Khan and Chaka solo is kinda funny.
Is there a page that has the fan-voting results thus far? The voting on Google doesn't show them, at least for me. I had seen an article mentioning they're on the Rock Hall site, but not sure where. Thanks.

Thanks. www.rockhall.com/standings/The top five artists, as selected by the public, will comprise a "fans' ballot" that will be tallied along with the other ballots to choose the 2020 inductees.
