Billboard.com:
Over on the Digital Songs chart, we have a new No. 1, as will.i.am's "Scream & Shout" (featuring Britney Spears), jumps from No. 66 to the top with 196,000 downloads sold (up 483%). The song debuted on last week's tally with five days of sales, as it was released on Nov. 21. The newest chart data reflects its first full sales week (ending Dec. 2), along with impact felt from its music video's premiere on "The X Factor" (Nov. 28).
"Scream & Shout" is will.i.am's second No. 1 on the Digital Songs chart as a solo artist (but first as a lead), following his featured turn on Usher's "OMG" in 2010. He's also notched five leaders as a member of the Black Eyed Peas. For Spears, it's her seventh No. 1 on the eight year old tally.
Bumped out of the top slot on Digital Songs is PSY's "Gangnam Style," which falls to No. 2 with 143,000 (down 37%). Alica Keys' "Girl On Fire" benefits from its parent album's release and a performance on "The X Factor" (Nov. 29), as it rockets 17-3 with 140,000 (up 72%).
In the No. 4 slot is the chart's highest debut, 50 Cent's "My Life" (featuring Eminem and Adam Levine), which starts with 140,000. 50 and Levine performed the track live last week on NBC's "The Voice" (Nov. 26).
Bruno Mars' "Locked Out of Heaven" is stationary at No. 5 (135,000; down 10%), the Lumineers' "Ho Hey" rises 7-6 (127,000; up 1%) and Ke$ha's "Die Young" falls 4-7 (122,000; down 19%). Rihanna's "Diamonds" tumbles 2-8 (just over 122,000; down 31%), Phillip Phillip's "Home" descends 6-9 (118,000; down 10%) and Flo Rida's "I Cry" slides 8-10 (96,000; down 18%).
Digital track sales this past week totaled 22.15 million downloads, down 8% compared with last week (24.06 million) and up 7% stacked next to the comparable week of 2011 (20.67 million). Year-to-date track sales are at 1.209 billion, up 6% compared with the same total at this point last year (1.142 billion).

Huh, another week w/o 200k, and fewer than 10 songs at 100k. And Gangnam Style has yet another week in the T2...with less than 150k. I think it's the weakest T2 since Oct 2009, with identical #s - Fireflies 196k, Party in the USA 143k.

^^This happened last year.
Digital single sales fall because kids know they will be getting iTunes gift cards for Christmas.
Sales will explode Christmas day.

Calvin Harris I'd consider this a weaker top 2.

Well, we differ.
Aside from the fact that those 2 songs had been hovering in the T2 for weeks and weeks, as opposed to S&S's jump into success this week, it had two songs selling about 150k. 149>143. It's like if...you could sleep with someone hot and someone fug, vs. sleeping with 2 moderately attractive people. I would prefer the latter.

Billboard online is showing Ke$ha's picture for the Hot 100 link. Maybe they already know she'll be #1 and they're preparing to post an article about it...? Usually (i think always) the pictures they put on those links are for the #1s.

"Scream & Shout" probably has 208 points with airplay factored in. It has been available for streaming so I think it depends how it does there this week for a Top 10 debut.

It debuts at #12.
Rihanna Remains Atop Hot 100, Adds Radio Songs Reign
As 'Diamonds' dominates the Hot 100 for a third week, it takes over Radio Songs. Plus, will.i.am and Britney Spears start just outside the Hot 100's top 10
As Rihanna registers a third week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Diamonds," the song also rises to the top of the Radio Songs chart.
Will.i.am and Britney Spears, meanwhile, debut just outside the Hot 100's top 10 with "Scream & Shout."
"Diamonds" remains atop the Hot 100 powered by its 2-1 ascent on Radio Songs, where it gains by 7% to 134 million all-format audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS. Her 12th Hot 100 No. 1 becomes her 10th leader on the BDS-based Radio Songs ranking (which launched 22 years ago this week). Rihanna is just the second artist to reach a double-digit No. 1 total on the list: Mariah Carey remains one ahead of her with 11. ( Usher places third with seven Radio Songs No. 1s, followed by Ludacris and Kanye West, each with six.)
"Diamonds" notches a fourth week atop the On-Demand Songs chart with 1.06 million on-demand streams (down 2%) (and 1.19 million overall streams), according to BDS, and slides 2-8 on Digital Songs with 122,000 downloads sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. (Parent album "Unapologetic" similarly declines on the Billboard 200 in its second week (1-6); as previously reported, song and album sales were down in the tracking week after the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, as they are annually in that period.)
"Diamonds," which rules R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for a ninth week, wins a tight race to No. 1 on the Hot 100, fending off Bruno Mars' "Locked Out of Heaven" (4-2) by approximately 2,500 chart points. "Diamonds" dips by 9% in overall points, while "Heaven" gains by 2%. The latter title concurrently rises 4-2 on Radio Songs (124 million, up 11%), while remaining at No. 5 on Digital Songs (135,000, down 4%) and surging 9-5 on On-Demand Songs (748,000, up 9%). The song introduces Mars' sophomore album "Unorthodox Jukebox," due Tuesday (Dec. 11).
After climbing 3-2 last week, Ke$ha's "Die Young" reverses course on the Hot 100 (2-3). The lead single from her album "Warrior," due high atop next week's Billboard 200, gains by 5% on Radio Songs, despite a 3-4 retreat (121 million) but falls 4-7 on Digital Songs (122,000, down 19%) and 3-4 on On-Demand Songs (800,000, down 8%). RCA Records announced today that "C'mon" will be the second single from "Warrior." It's set to impact pop radio on Jan. 7.
Maroon 5's former nine-week Hot 100 No. 1 "One More Night" drops 3-4, simultaneously ending its eight-week command on Radio Songs (124 million, down 6%), the longest of the group's three leaders on the list (all logged consecutively since last year). "Moves Like Jagger," featuring Christina Aguilera, topped Radio Songs for seven weeks beginning the week of Oct. 1, 2011, while "Payphone," featuring Wiz Khalifa, led for six frames beginning in July.
The Lumineers' first Hot 100 hit, "Ho Hey," becomes their first top five effort, rising 7-5. The track, which also elevates 2-1 on the Rock Songs chart, reaches the Radio Songs top 10, where it jumps 11-8 (78 million, up 15%), and rises 7-6 on Digital Songs (127,000, up 1%) and 5-3 on On-Demand Songs (860,000, up 10%).
Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10, fun.'s No. 3-peaking "Some Nights" holds at No. 6, followed by Phillip Phillips' "Home" (8-7); Flo Rida's "I Cry" (9-8), which becomes his first No. 1 on Rap Songs since his 2008 debut hit "Low"; Ne-Yo's "Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself)" (10-9); and PSY's former seven-week No. 2 Hot 100 hit "Gangnam Style" (5-10), which drops 1-2 on Digital Songs (143,000, down 37%) after six nonconsecutive weeks on top. (The song had benefitted last week from the Korean rapper's show-closing performance with Hammer on the American Music Awards, broadcast Nov. 18 on ABC.)
Two titles make notable moves to just outside the Hot 100's top 10. As she debuts atop the Billboard 200 with "Girl on Fire," the title cut from Alicia Keys' new album (and fifth Billboard 200 No. 1) soars 21-11 with the Hot 100's top Digital Gainer award. The song also benefits from a performance on Fox's "The X Factor" (Nov. 29). On Digital Songs, it flies 17-3 (140,000, up 72%), marking a new peak; "Girl" had previously risen as high as No. 8 on Digital Songs four weeks ago.
At No. 12 on the Hot 100, will.i.am's "Scream & Shout," featuring Britney Spears, debuts, fueled by a 66-1 vault on Digital Songs (196,000, up 483%). The jump to the summit is the greatest in the chart's archives, besting the 57-1 flight of Zac Efron, Andrew Seeley and Vanessa Hudgens' "Breaking Free" (from Disney's "High School Musical") the week of Feb. 11, 2006.
"Scream" debuted on Digital Songs last week with five days of sales, as it was released on Nov. 21. The newest chart data reflects its first full sales week (ending Dec. 2), along with impact felt from the premiere of its music video on "The X Factor" (Nov. 28). The track marks will.i.am's second Digital Songs No. 1 as a soloist (but first as a lead), following his featured turn on Usher's "OMG" in 2010. He's also notched five leaders as a member of the Black Eyed Peas. "Scream" is Spears' seventh Digital Songs No. 1.

I can't fathom though these rules. How does a song #1 in digital sales only end up at #12 on the Hot 100 chart? I feel like that's so flawed.

If #12 ends up being its peak (which I think it will, given that it's decreasing on iTunes & no future promotion), this will be the first song to top the Digital Songs Chart without making top 10 on Hot 100 since 2010. The last one was "Forget You" by Glee Cast featuring Gwyneth Paltrow, which peaked at #11 :x
I find it interesting that it was the chart dated December 4, and Rihanna was #1 again.

Where can we access data for streaming? How do you convert this to points for Hot 100 computation?

A horrible week. Two digital top 3 song missed it' chance to reach Hot 100 Top 10 ever. It'd have been great if at least "Girl On Fire" reach #10 this week. I'm so devastated.

Ouch. As lead artist, Alicia had 6 T10s in her first 4 years, 1 in the last 8 years.

[/img]
I wish airplay is 0.5 point/million.
But the Hot 100 is supposed to measure how popular a song is in the industry. To the industry, airplay is vital as it brings in more money than downloading and streaming do. I do wish, though, that they were all even. We assume at the moment it looks like this: 1 point = 1,000 digital downloads 1 point = 10,000 streams 1 point = about 0.667 AI (or 1.5 points per 1.000 AI) I wish it looked like this: 1 point = 1,000 digital downloads 1 point = 10,000 streams 1 point = 1.000 AI I can't fathom though these rules. How does a song #1 in digital sales only end up at #12 on the Hot 100 chart? I feel like that's so flawed. It's not flawed. The song actually had strong airplay for its point of release. Yes, it's the #1 most downloaded song, but that's all it is. Even if you claim that the Hot 100 should take airplay out, the song would still be below the top ten for the simple fact that it's very low in streaming. Being #1 digitally doesn't necessarily mean everyone loves the song at the moment. It just means more people feel the need to own the song this week than any other song. Own. Not listen to. I mean, I can buy a song the week it comes out, but that doesn't mean I love it right then and there. Said song most likely will reach its peak in how much I enjoy it a few weeks to even a few months after I purchased it.

And how does a song that is currently #41 on the itunes chart still in the top 10? There is way too much emphasis on airplay. Not that it doesn't have it's place but digital sales and streaming should have more emphasis. What's also funny (and sad) is that the charts which should have a high emphasis on airplay, such as the R&B and country charts, are highly influenced by digital sales instead.

The reactions/feedback that radio stations get from listeners. Positive feedback results in a high score, while poor feedback gives a song a low score. But if the song got a negative feedback from listeners, why would people still be buying it so much?

Anyway, most weeks a paltry 196K wouldn't come close to being #1 on the digital sales chart. The charts are a funny game. In three weeks, when airplay is basically frozen with lots of recurrent, countdowns, etc., sales will be booming and the Kings & Queens of the sales chart will dominate. It'll flip again in January. Boom in February after Grammy Awards, etc.

Recent airplay #1s reached over 150 million listeners in one week. More impact culturally than a couple hundred grand, no?
