Any info on Pumped Up Kids airplay? I was honestly disgusted to hear it on the radio the other day. Probably THE worst song to be playing after that tragedy. FOSTER THE PEOPLE - Pumped Up Kicks: 5.091 (- 0.821)

Oh God, if the shooting had happened a year ago you can bet some nutjob conservative group would have blamed the massacre on Foster the People somehow. Which would have been logical. I still can't with that song. What an idiotic thing to say. I have no words, I thought people on this site were a bit more intelligent than that.

Any chance for Scream & Shout to be top 10 this week? I have a feeling it will move up to #11 this week. It should pass "Girl on Fire", "Gangnam Style", and "Let Me Love You" but "I Knew You Were Trouble" will leapfrog it into the Top 10.

I always thought the lyrics of "Die Young" were kind of weird. Anyway, this is nothing new. A lot of songs that were deemed insensitive to play were dropped after September 11 too. Another example of American media sensationalism and overreaction, any song with any reference to fire was banned, even songs that you had to think really hard about to even make some kind of vague connection to an explosion or something remotely associated with 9/11 were banned.

So I noticed that when you search for "All I Want For Christmas Is You" on youtube, the first video that shows is a fan version of the official video. The VEVO one is below that. In the past 1-2 days the fan version has over 1 million views, while the VEVO version (i.e. the one counting toward the Hot 100) has about 450,000 views. That fan video is sucking a lot of chart points from "AIWFCIY."

Do you happen to remember what those songs were (or at least some of them)? It'd be interesting to see which songs suffered as a result of that event. I remember "Imagine" by John Lennon was one of them. I remember that one specifically because I can remember how utterly stupid and reactionary I thought it was to put it on the list.

The content of the song just makes me sick. No matter how "catchy" it is, I just can't imagine repeating the lyrics of that song. No need for name calling.

I work at TMZ...we're going to do the Ke$ha story on the website (about her losing so much airplay due to Newtown).

I believe there's a list on Wikipedia identifying songs which Clear Channel deemed insensitive and removed from rotation. Thanks!

In light of boycotting/blacklisting tracks on the heels of national tragedies, I believe it should simply be an all-or-nothing proposition.
Either be consistent, or don't even try. If you're going to boycott "Die Young", then you better be prepared to boycott "Girl On Fire", "Dynamite", "Blow" and the umpteen other songs that incorporate violent imagery either directly in the titles or as choice metaphoric devices in the hooks of any given single. And once you fathom exactly how long the trail of bread crumbs traipses, it is then realized how absurd this whole blacklisting practice is to begin with.
Obviously, consistency is too much to ask for. Political correctness is bad enough, but it's even more insulting when there is a double standard.
Songs like "Die Young" are NOT the issue. The real issues are namely 1) the decline of social capital and its direct correlation with disintegration, 2) the declining quality of public education, 3) the fact there is absolutely no practical purpose for owning a semi-automatic weapon or any assault weapon really, especially those with over ten magazines, and that we need to get these weapons off of store shelves, and 4) the need for greater mental health advocacy.

"Die Young" has lyrics that way more quickly to bring to mind this particular tragedy than "Girl On Fire". "Girl On Fire" would have most likely been blacklisted after September 11 because the WTC was literally on fire and people were burning alive, but not after a shooting. Clear Channel is just being conscious of the fact that people may hear lyrics like "we're gonna die young," get offended or upset in light of recent events, and change the station. No, the song is not about children dying, but the phrase "die young" would rub a lot of people the wrong way less than a week after 20 kindergarteners were gunned down.

You might as well have written this in Farsi for how hard it is for people to understand.

It's always so funny when some people go to ridiculous extremes to be sensitive and tolerant to others' issues, but when it comes to true tragedies in which actual innocent people die, everyone's 'over-reacting". LOL.

Yeah, I don't get it. Radio isn't blaming Ke$ha for the tragedy, they'd simply rather not replay-and-replay-and-replay a song that repeats "we're gonna die young" over and over....and personally, I heard it at a club this weekend and all of a sudden, felt a little weird hearing that refrain.
Also, the song had peaked anyway. No one is going to tie Ke$ha to this incident in the long run. Her next single will be a hit (and if it's not, it won't be because of this).

Give me gun control over randomly dropping songs from radio any day of the week.
