Well, as I said...I'll be kicking off the new year with a newly-expanded chart! I'm also adding the "weeks" column to the posted chart. I previously didn't keep track of weeks charted from week-to-week (at least not from 2002-2006), but I've been doing so the second time around, and especially last year. I figure...since I'm adding 5 positions to the chart this week, why not add another feature to the posted chart, eh? :) ...for the week ending: January 5. TW LW WC Artist "Song" 25 17 18 Owl City & Carly Rae Jepsen "Good Time" 24 -- 01 Carrie Underwood "Blown Away" 23 -- 01 Jason Mraz "93 Million Miles" 22 18 04 Grace Potter & The Nocturnals "Stars" 21 -- 01 Alicia Keys "Girl on Fire" 20 -- 01 Matchbox Twenty "Overjoyed" 19 -- 01 Swedish House Mafia "Don't You Worry Child" 18 20 03 One Direction "Little Things" 17 19 04 Vicci Martinez featuring Cee-Lo "Come Along" 16 16 05 Taylor Swift "I Knew You Were Trouble" 15 15 05 Hunter Hayes "Wanted" 14 10 18 Tristan Prettyman "My Oh My" 13 13 06 Neon Trees "Lessons in Love" 12 12 20 fun. "Some Nights" 11 14 06 Maroon 5 "Daylight" 10 11 21 Train "50 Ways to Say Goodbye" 09 06 09 Adele "Skyfall" 08 09 21 Taylor Swift "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" 07 08 07 Ke$ha "Die Young" 06 07 09 Kelly Clarkson "Catch My Breath" 05 05 08 Pink "Try" 04 04 07 The Script featuring Will.I.Am "Hall of Fame" 03 02 10 Andy Grammer "Miss Me" 02 03 21 Ed Sheeran "The A Team" 01 01 11 Rihanna "Diamonds"NOTES: - This week sees five more positions, but there are no droppers.
- Rihanna holds onto the top spot for a third week, and it appears she is proving quite formidable at the top. I had Ed Sheeran pegged to possibly hit the top within these first few weeks of the year, but I wonder if that will soon come into question thanks to "Diamonds" 's staying power?
- Speaking of staying power, Taylor's showing some as well, as WANEGBT moves back up another notch to #8 this week. I liken some of it, though, to the "year-end" effect this week, also depressing newer songs from moving up (save for "Daylight", which moves up three).
- Of the five newbies this week, it's Swedish House Mafia and Alicia Keys who I think have the best shots going upward. Alicia in particular is showing signs of a quick take-off, though she does have a large group of bullets in front of her.

...for the week ending: January 12. TW LW WC Artist "Song" 25 -- 01 Owl City "Shooting Star" 24 24 02 Carrie Underwood "Blown Away" 23 23 02 Jason Mraz "93 Million Miles" 22 22 05 Grace Potter & The Nocturnals "Stars" 21 14 19 Tristan Prettyman "My Oh My" 20 12 21 fun. NOTES: - It's four weeks on top now for "Diamonds". And she's looking good for a fifth week next week as well.
- The Script return to #3...will they turn the tables back on Ed Sheeran and take over the top spot instead?
- And what about Pink...she slinks up to #4 as well. Maybe she wants that top spot!
- Well, I was right about Alicia Keys - she's the week's Biggest Mover, burning up six to #15. I suspect she and One Direction will be going toe-to-toe as they both go upward...
- fun. take the week's Biggest Drop, down eight, because I'm starting to get really sick of "Some Nights". For some reason, I've been hearing it as much as "Diamonds" this past week, and that's proving to NOT be to their benefit.
- Meanwhile, Tristan drops seven because while I still like the song, it's now dead as a single - thus, it's time to move on. :( In that same vein, expect the sky to fall on Adele next week.

...for the week ending: January 19. TW LW WC Artist "Song" 25 21 20 Tristan Prettyman "My Oh My" 24 -- 01 Lifehouse featuring Natasha Bedingfield "Between the Raindrops" 23 -- 01 Train "Mermaid" 22 25 02 Owl City "Shooting Star" 21 13 11 Adele "Skyfall" 20 23 03 Jason Mraz "93 Million Miles" 19 22 06 Grace Potter & The Nocturnals "Stars" 18 19 03 Matchbox Twenty "Overjoyed" 17 18 06 Vicci Martinez featuring Cee-Lo "Come Along" 16 10 23 Train "50 Ways to Say Goodbye" 15 17 07 Taylor Swift "I Knew You Were Trouble" 14 16 03 Swedish House Mafia "Don't You Worry Child" 13 12 07 Hunter Hayes "Wanted" 12 15 03 Alicia Keys "Girl on Fire" 11 14 05 One Direction "Little Things" 10 11 08 Neon Trees "Lessons in Love" 09 09 23 Taylor Swift "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" 08 05 12 Andy Grammer "Miss Me" 07 08 08 Maroon 5 "Daylight" 06 07 09 Ke$ha "Die Young" 05 06 11 Kelly Clarkson "Catch My Breath" 04 04 10 Pink "Try" 03 03 09 The Script featuring Will.I.Am "Hall of Fame" 02 02 23 Ed Sheeran "The A Team" 01 01 13 Rihanna "Diamonds"Dancing that fatal two-step out of the survey are: "Blown Away" by Carrie Underwood, and "Some Nights" by fun. NOTES: - As expected, "Diamonds" continue to shine on top for a fifth week. Next week's going to be very interesting though. Ed Sheeran won't quit, and he's not the only one raising holy hell from below.
- Ke$ha continues to push her way upward, though I'm thinking that this is as high as she'll go. Still, #6 ain't bad - that matches "Blow" from two years ago.
- Taylor Swift's former #1 song doesn't seem to want to quit, either. After flip-flopping in and out of the Top 10 last month, she's digging in her heels and doing her best to keep the rising tide at bay. But look what happened to Train this week - they were de-railed, and dropped six. Sooner or later, she'll be overtaken, too.
- And speaking of de-railings, Adele takes the week's Biggest Drop down eight to #21.
- Train, meanwhile, put their new single on the rails this week and it comes rushing in at #23.
- Lifehouse and Natasha debut with a song that narrowly missed impacting last month. Honestly, I was wondering if maybe they'd hit a ceiling and the single was about to die, but I'm starting to hear it more now again, so I'll give them a shot.
- Last but not least, Tristan hangs on by the skin of her teeth at the chart's bottom.

I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date! No time to say hello, goodbye - I'm late, I'm late, I'm late! ...for the week ending: January 26. TW LW WC Artist "Song" 25 21 12 Adele "Skyfall" 24 -- 01 Emili Sande "Next to Me" 23 16 24 Train "50 Ways to Say Goodbye" 22 24 02 Lifehouse featuring Natasha Bedingfield "Between the Raindrops" 21 23 02 Train "Mermaid" 20 22 03 Owl City "Shooting Star" 19 20 04 Jason Mraz "93 Million Miles" 18 19 07 Grace Potter & The Nocturnals "Stars" 17 18 04 Matchbox Twenty "Overjoyed" 16 17 07 Vicci Martinez featuring Cee-Lo "Come Along" 15 08 13 Andy Grammer "Miss Me" 14 15 08 Taylor Swift "I Knew You Were Trouble" 13 13 08 Hunter Hayes "Wanted" 12 09 24 Taylor Swift "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" 11 14 04 Swedish House Mafia "Don't You Worry Child" 10 10 09 Neon Trees "Lessons in Love" 09 12 04 Alicia Keys "Girl on Fire" 08 11 06 One Direction "Little Things" 07 06 10 Ke$ha "Die Young" 06 07 09 Maroon 5 "Daylight" 05 05 12 Kelly Clarkson "Catch My Breath" 04 03 10 The Script featuring Will.I.Am "Hall of Fame" 03 04 11 Pink "Try" 02 01 14 Rihanna "Diamonds" 01 02 24 Ed Sheeran "The A Team"Just one song falling out this week: "My Oh My" by Tristan Prettyman. NOTES: - After 24 weeks of surfing the chart, Ed Sheeran cruises into the top spot this week. That sets a new record for the longest climb to the top for the third time in just over six months...yowza!
- He may not have long to savor it, though - while I doubt that Rihanna will return to the top spot again, Pink matches the #3 placement of "Blow Me" this week and she's eager to beat that, with style!
- The Script fall back to #4 again - I'm thinking that now they'll start to lose a bit of ground.
- 1D and A. Keys cruise into the Top 10 - but the boys may see their quest upward hit a short-circuit.
- Taylor gets bum-rushed back out of the Top 10 once again, probably this time for good - but that still doesn't compare to the fall Andy Grammer has this week.

So, last week I had my first frozen week of the year. Hopefully there will be less of those as the year goes on. In the meantime...seeing as I'm already late for this week, I'll be leaving out commentary for this one. ...for the week ending: February 9. So...let's try this again. This died a sudden death back in February because that was when I grew totally fed up with current popular music at the time. I was constantly running into an overdose of stuff that I was just not into, or stuff that was getting older and older, and it was crowding out what I was into and what was newer then. So...I just gave up on it. For the next five months or so, I was on sort of a musical vacation in the 80s, 90s, or whatever I felt like YouTube-ing. But anything and everything current I avoided like the plague. The beginning of this month is when I finally snapped out of it. Now lately, I've been wanting to get this up-and-running again. But I can't just turn it back on and say "go", and TBQH I'm not really sure where this is going to go as yet, particularly since I've shut this down twice now in just over a 10-year span. So...I'm going to try this. For the rest of the year, I'm opting for a not-quite fixed chart size, as I feel out what I want to go with. It seems to me like some weeks, I'd want to make room for upwards of 30 songs, while other weeks, just 20 will do. I'm not even going to try and guess what I'll want to go with by the end of the year. Without any more ado...here's the first week of this little "chart experiment". "LW" positions are sort of arbitrary, and are really just based on my guesses of where songs would be if I'd put this together last week. ...for the week ending: August 31, 2013 TW LW Artist - Song 28 -- Lorde - Royals 27 -- Parachute - Can't Help 26 -- Enrique Iglesias - Turn the Night Up 25 -- Justin Timberlake - Take Back the Night 24 -- Avril Lavigne - Rock & Roll 23 -- Pink featuring Lily Allen - True Love 22 -- Labrinth featuring Emeli Sande - Beneath Your Beautiful 21 09 Kesha - Crazy Kids 20 21 Train featuring Ashley Monroe - Bruises 19 20 Drake featuring Majid Jordan - Hold On, We're Going Home 18 19 Katy Perry - Roar 17 18 Lady Gaga - Applause 16 16 Bonnie McKee - American Girl 15 17 Sara Bareilles - Brave 14 15 Lana Del Rey - Summertime Sadness 13 13 One Direction - Best Song Ever 12 06 Rihanna - Right Now 11 14 Cody Simpson - Pretty Brown Eyes 10 12 Taylor Swift & Ed Sheeran - Everything Has Changed 09 11 Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding - I Need Your Love 08 10 Anna Kendrick - Cups (When I'm Gone) 07 08 Capital Cities - Safe and Sound 06 03 Jason DeRulo - The Other Side 05 05 Robin Thicke featuring T.I. & Pharrell - Blurred Lines 04 07 Phillip Phillips - Gone, Gone, Gone 03 04 Maroon 5 - Love Somebody 02 02 Zedd featuring Foxes - Clarity 01 01 Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert - Same Love

I like all of these but Enrique, Cody, and Jason - good chart!! Burning a bit on your top two debuts, but the rest are great. Enrique isn't likely to go very high, honestly. But one thing I'm kind of "testing" with these experimental few months is songs that I hear often enough that aren't really bad at all but neither are they great. With a few of these songs in the mix, I could end up going down to 30 from week-to-week. I've never ever gone beyond 30 and don't think I could sustain doing so at this time, but I think I could pull off doing 30 by the end of this year. :)

Trying this with a table format this week. While I liked using the Courier New font, I don't really want to just up the font size just to stay with it. ...for the week ending: September 7, 2013 TW | LW | Artist | Title | 30 | -- | Paramore | Still Into You | 29 | -- | Tegan & Sara | Closer | 28 | 26 | Enrique Iglesias | Turn the Night Up | 27 | 25 | Justin Timberlake | Take Back the Night | 26 | 28 | Lorde | Royals | 25 | -- | Avicii | Wake Me Up | 24 | 12 | Rihanna | Right Now | 23 | 27 | Parachute | Can't Help | 22 | 23 | Pink featuring Lily Allen | True Love | 21 | 20 | Train featuring Ashley Monroe | Bruises | 20 | 24 | Avril Lavigne | Rock & Roll | 19 | 19 | Drake featuring Majid Jordan | Hold On, We're Going Home | 18 | 22 | Labrinth featuring Emeli Sande | Beneath Your Beautiful | 17 | 18 | Katy Perry | Roar | 16 | 17 | Lady Gaga | Applause | 15 | 14 | Lana Del Rey | Summertime Sadness | 14 | 16 | Bonnie McKee | American Girl | 13 | 13 | One Direction | Best Song Ever | 12 | 15 | Sara Bareilles | Brave | 11 | 8 | Anna Kendrick | Cups (When I'm Gone) | 10 | 11 | Cody Simpson | Pretty Brown Eyes | 9 | 6 | Jason DeRulo | The Other Side | 8 | 10 | Taylor Swift & Ed Sheeran | Everything Has Changed | 7 | 5 | Robin Thicke featuring T.I. & Pharrell | Blurred Lines | 6 | 7 | Capital Cities | Safe and Sound | 5 | 9 | Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding | I Need Your Love | 4 | 4 | Phillip Phillips | Gone, Gone, Gone | 3 | 3 | Maroon 5 | Love Somebody | 2 | 2 | Zedd featuring Foxes | Clarity | 1 | 1 | Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert | Same Love |
OFF:Kesha - Crazy Kids (from 21) Phew, that was a lot of precise typing everything into the tags just right. Get used to seeing "Same Love" at the top. It's not going anywhere anytime soon. :) Neither is "Clarity". Despite having a fluid chart boundary, I pulled Kesha outright this week since the song is, well, Rihanna, down double digits and easily having the week's Biggest Dropper, will certainly be getting that honor next week. The biggest upward move, meanwhile, is four notches, which four songs do. I would hate to be anybody in the 11-20 range. That's probably the toughest area of the entire chart at the moment - other than maybe "Clarity" stuck at #2, but that's another story. I was tempted to put "Treasure" on this week, as I likely would have last week had I not forgotten it completely. With the song moving into free-fall at CHR and soon to be fading away completely, though, there doesn't seem much point in doing so even now. (Oh well, I guess.) Instead, Avicii debuts, and he along with Paramore and Tegan & Sara bring the chart to an even 30. :)

So you know how last week I said get used to seeing "Same Love" (and "Clarity") at the top? Well... ...for the week ending: September 14, 2013 TW | LW | Artist | Title | 30 | -- | Krewella | Live For the Night | 29 | 27 | Justin Timberlake | Take Back the Night | 28 | -- | Backstreet Boys | In a World Like This | 27 | 29 | Tegan & Sara | Closer | 26 | 30 | Paramore | Still Into You | 25 | 25 | Avicii | Wake Me Up | 24 | 26 | Lorde | Royals | 23 | 22 | Pink featuring Lily Allen | True Love | 22 | 7 | Robin Thicke featuring T.I. & Pharrell | Blurred Lines | 21 | 23 | Parachute | Can't Help | 20 | 20 | Avril Lavigne | Rock & Roll | 19 | 11 | Anna Kendrick | Cups (When I'm Gone) | 18 | 9 | Jason DeRulo | The Other side | 17 | 19 | Drake featuring Majid Jordan | Hold On, We're Going Home | 16 | 21 | Train featuring Ashley Monroe | Bruises | 15 | 15 | Lana Del Rey | Summertime Sadness | 14 | 17 | Katy Perry | Roar | 13 | 18 | Labrinth featuring Emeli Sande | Beneath Your Beautiful | 12 | 13 | One Direction | Best Song Ever | 11 | 16 | Lady Gaga | Applause | 10 | 14 | Bonnie McKee | American Girl | 9 | 10 | Cody Simpson | Pretty Brown Eyes | 8 | 8 | Taylor Swift & Ed Sheeran | Everything Has Changed | 7 | 12 | Sara Bareilles | Brave | 6 | 6 | Capital Cities | Safe and Sound | 5 | 5 | Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding | I Need Your Love | 4 | 3 | Maroon 5 | Love Somebody | 3 | 4 | Phillip Phillips | Gone, Gone, Gone | 2 | 1 | Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert | Same Love | 1 | 2 | Zedd featuring Foxes | Clarity |
OFF:Enrique Iglesias - Turn the Night Up (from 28) Rihanna - Right Now (from 24) So, the EDM world bookends the chart this week, as Krewella come in at #30, while Zedd breaks through and hits #1. In all honesty, it's very likely that "Clarity" will only spend this one week at the top, but ultimately the point is that they did get there. In a bit of a surprise, the Backstreet Boys come in at #28. I'm not really sure how far this will go for them, though I'm not expecting anything like their last trip onto my chart, when they took "Incomplete" to #2. Note the 15-notch drop for "Blurred Lines"; that's a new chart record. Yeah...I kind of turned on (or rather, turned off to) "Blurred Lines" this week. On the other end of the spectrum, four songs jump five notches this week. One of those returns Sara Bareilles to the Top 10. Will she make this her second #1? We'll see!

• Good Top 3! • "I Need Your Love" is at #5! • "Safe and Sound", "Brave", "Everything Has Changed" and "American Girl" are in the Top 10. • "Applause", "Roar" and "Royals" climb. • "Rock N Roll" and "Wake Me Up" stay their same spots.

Two Nights songs are back to back (both are decent at best), go Wake Me Up & Royals, looks like you blurred out Robin & Co so hard , Let’s go Drake/MJ, like the jump of Bruises, Katy & Gaga almost to top 10,but not quite. Brave and Safe and Sound are so good, & I have no in problem in getting use to that top 2 because it’s a good one. Nice music style in this solid chart.

Electing to post this one a bit early this week. Juan Carlos: "Brave" hits the Top 5 this week. bate: RE: "Bruises" - see my comments below this week's chart. :) ...for the week ending: September 21, 2013 TW | LW | Artist | Title | 30 | -- | Calvin Harris featuring Ayah Marar | Thinking About You | 29 | -- | Britney Spears | Work Bitch! | 28 | 18 | Jason DeRulo | The Other Side | 27 | 28 | Backstreet Boys | In a World Like This | 26 | 30 | Krewella | Live For the Night | 25 | 27 | Tegan & Sara | Closer | 24 | 19 | Anna Kendrick | Cups (When I'm Gone) | 23 | 25 | Avicii | Wake Me Up | 22 | 26 | Paramore | Still Into You | 21 | 24 | Lorde | Royals | 20 | 23 | Pink featuring Lily Allen | True Love | 19 | 15 | Lana Del Rey | Summertime Sadness | 18 | 21 | Parachute | Can't Help | 17 | 20 | Avril Lavigne | Rock & Roll | 16 | 12 | One Direction | Best Song Ever | 15 | 17 | Drake featuring Majid Jordan | Hold On, We're Going Home | 14 | 14 | Katy Perry | Roar | 13 | 16 | Train featuring Ashley Monroe | Bruises | 12 | 10 | Bonnie McKee | American Girl | 11 | 9 | Cody Simpson | Pretty Brown Eyes | 10 | 13 | Labrinth featuring Emeli Sande | Beneath Your Beautiful | 9 | 11 | Lady Gaga | Applause | 8 | 8 | Taylor Swift & Ed Sheeran | Everything Has Changed | 7 | 4 | Maroon 5 | Love Somebody | 6 | 6 | Capital Cities | Safe and Sound | 5 | 7 | Sara Bareilles | Brave | 4 | 5 | Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding | I Need Your Love | 3 | 3 | Phillip Phillips | Gone, Gone, Gone | 2 | 1 | Zedd featuring Foxes | Clarity | 1 | 2 | Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert | Same Love |
DROPPERS:Justin Timberlake - Take Back the Night (from 29) Robin Thicke featuring T.I. & Pharrell - Blurred Lines (from 22) As expected, "Same Love" returns to the top spot this week. I'm thinking that will be comfortable there for a couple more weeks at least. New singles indeed are the theme of this week's two debuts, which sees "Blurred Lines" depart after its record drop last week, and Britney replacing Justin (tee hee :kii:). Calvin Harris's debut doesn't even (officially) impact U.S. radio for another two-and-a-half weeks yet, but the song is just too good to wait even that long for. Meanwhile, farther up the chart, his other song still has some life in it, as it climbs a notch to #4. Labrinth and Emeli push their way into the Top 10, but I'm thinking that this could be it for them. Lady Gaga also goes Top 10 and could be looking at another #1 in the weeks to come; "Applause" would be her fifth to do so if she gets there. "Bruises", approaching the Top 10, is sounding really good as a potential Fall track. Even if the song doesn't hold out at radio long enough into the season, I'm thinking that I'll continue to hold onto it anyway. Krewella and Paramore each nab Biggest Mover honors with four-notch jumps, while Jason DeRulo plummets ten and like the previous Biggest Droppers, is a sure thing to depart next week.

You know, Mike. It's weird you tagged me for "Brave" when the two debuts are from Britney Spears and Calvin Harris, my two favorite artists :) • Great Top 6. • "Beneath Your Beautiful" is Top 10. • "Rock N Roll", "Royals" and "Wake Me Up" climb. • Regarding your debuts, I love them. That's all I can say. They need to smash!

In any case, both debuts should have no trouble smashing.

I didn't realize that tbqh, though what I was really going for was "Brave" was the best thing from last week's post that I didn't go on to talk about below. Don't worry about that. I also like "Brave", but not as much as your debuts In any case, both debuts should have no trouble smashing. YES! Glad to see that

Great chart! Love nine of your top ten, your debuts, "American Girl", "Roar", "Hold On, We're Going Home", "Summertime Sadness", "Royals", and many others! All of these are fantastic. Keep up the good charting!

Juan Carlos: Britney, bitch! And, "I Need Your Love" refuses to die. Au$tin: "Royals" breaks the Top 20. Zeebz: That, and see Bonnie McKee below. :) ...for the week ending: September 28, 2013 TW | LW | Artist | Title | 30 | 24 | Anna Kendrick | Cups (When I'm Gone) | 29 | -- | Cher Lloyd featuring T.I. | I Wish | 28 | 27 | Backstreet Boys | In a World Like This | 27 | 30 | Calvin Harris featuring Ayah Marar | Thinking About You | 26 | 26 | Krewella | Live For the Night | 25 | 25 | Tegan & Sara | Closer | 24 | 16 | One Direction | Best Song Ever | 23 | 23 | Avicii | Wake Me Up | 22 | 19 | Lana Del Rey | Summertime Sadness | 21 | 29 | Britney Spears | Work Bitch! | 20 | 21 | Lorde | Royals | 19 | 22 | Paramore | Still Into You | 18 | 18 | Parachute | Can't Help | 17 | 15 | Drake featuring Majid Jordan | Hold On, We're Going Home | 16 | 14 | Katy Perry | Roar | 15 | 20 | Pink featuring Lily Allen | True Love | 14 | 7 | Maroon 5 | Love Somebody | 13 | 17 | Avril Lavigne | Rock & Roll | 12 | 13 | Train featuring Ashley Monroe | Bruises | 11 | 11 | Cody Simpson | Pretty Brown Eyes | 10 | 10 | Labrinth featuring Emeli Sande | Beneath Your Beautiful | 9 | 12 | Bonnie McKee | American Girl | 8 | 6 | Capital Cities | Safe and Sound | 7 | 9 | Lady Gaga | Applause | 6 | 8 | Taylor Swift & Ed Sheeran | Everything Has Changed | 5 | 5 | Sara Bareilles | Brave | 4 | 4 | Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding | I Need Your Love | 3 | 3 | Phillip Phillips | Gone, Gone, Gone | 2 | 2 | Zedd featuring Foxes | Clarity | 1 | 1 | Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert | Same Love |
DROPPER:Jason DeRulo - The Other Side (from 28) "Same Love" continues to reign at the top. With "Clarity" losing its bullet this week, we should see a new contender step up soon. Who will that be - Phillip, or Calvin/Ellie, or Sara? Honestly, it could be any one of them. After three weeks stuck at #8, Taylor & Ed climb two to #6, though they'll likely be stuck there for a bit now due to the logjam in front of them. Bonnie McKee returns to the Top 10, this time with a new peak. With both positive and negative updates over the past week, I kind of wish CHR would make up its mind as to what they're going to do with it. Labrinth & Emeli manage to hold onto #10, but as they lose their bullet this week, expect them to fall next week. Cody finds himself stuck outside the Top 10 this week, and with Train and Avril coming, he might not get back in. Pink makes a nice move upward - I see another Top 10 coming for her. There's finally a clear Biggest Mover this week - no surprise, it's Britney, bitch! Expect her to cut a similar-sized swath upward next week. The Biggest Dropper sees five British boys heading the wrong, erm, Direction...and like the previous ones, they should go next week.

No reply at all this past week? :'( Let's see if this will do the trick...growing another 10 positions this week! Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: October 5, 2013 TW | LW | WOC | Artist | Title | Peak | 40 | -- | 1 | Avicii featuring Adam Lambert & Nile Rodgers | Lay Me Down | 40 | 39 | -- | 1 | Mary Lambert | She Keeps Me Warm | 39 | 38 | 30 | 6 | Anna Kendrick | Cups (When I'm Gone) | 8 | 37 | -- | 1 | Armin van Buuren featuring Trevor Guthrie | This is What it Feels Like | 37 | 36 | -- | 1 | Zedd featuring Hayley Williams | Stay the Night | 36 | 35 | -- | 1 | John Newman | Love Me Again | 35 | 34 | -- | 1 | Emeli Sande | My Kind of Love | 34 | 33 | -- | 1 | Ellie Goulding | Burn | 33 | 32 | 24 | 6 | One Direction | Best Song Ever | 12 | 31 | -- | 1 | Travie McCoy featuring Jason Mraz | Rough Water | 31 | 30 | 28 | 4 | Backstreet Boys | In a World Like This | 27 | 29 | -- | 1 | Martin Garrix | Animals | 29 | 28 | -- | 1 | Junior Doctor | Dancing in Your Dreams | 28 | 27 | 29 | 2 | Cher Lloyd featuring T.I. | I Wish | 27 | 26 | 22 | 6 | Lana Del Rey | Summertime Sadness | 14 | 25 | 27 | 3 | Calvin Harris featuring Ayah Marar | Thinking About You | 25 | 24 | 26 | 4 | Krewella | Live For the Night | 24 | 23 | 23 | 5 | Avicii featuring Aloe Blacc | Wake Me Up | 23 | 22 | 14 | 6 | Maroon 5 | Love Somebody | 3 | 21 | 25 | 5 | Tegan & Sara | Closer | 21 | 20 | 20 | 6 | Lorde | Royals | 20 | 19 | 19 | 5 | Paramore | Still Into You | 19 | 18 | 18 | 6 | Parachute | Can't Help | 18 | 17 | 10 | 6 | Labrinth featuring Emeli Sande | Beneath Your Beautiful | 10 | 16 | 16 | 6 | Katy Perry | Roar | 14 | 15 | 17 | 6 | Drake featuring Majid Jordan | Hold On, We're Going Home | 15 | 14 | 21 | 3 | Britney Spears | Work Bitch! | 14 | 13 | 15 | 6 | Pink featuring Lily Allen | True Love | 13 | 12 | 13 | 6 | Avril Lavigne | Rock & Roll | 12 | 11 | 11 | 6 | Cody Simpson | Pretty Brown Eyes | 9 | 10 | 8 | 6 | Capital Cities | Safe and Sound | 6 | 9 | 12 | 6 | Train featuring Ashley Monroe | Bruises | 9 | 8 | 9 | 6 | Bonnie McKee | American Girl | 8 | 7 | 7 | 6 | Lady Gaga | Applause | 7 | 6 | 6 | 6 | Taylor Swift & Ed Sheeran | Everything Has Changed | 6 | 5 | 3 | 6 | Phillip Phillips | Gone, Gone, Gone | 3 | 4 | 2 | 6 | Zedd featuring Foxes | Clarity | 1 (1) | 3 | 5 | 6 | Sara Bareilles | Brave | 3 | 2 | 4 | 6 | Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding | I Need Your Love | 2 | 1 | 1 | 6 | Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert | Same Love | 1 (5) |
Soooo...you know how I said I wouldn't be able to go beyond 30? Welllll - it turns out that I've totally lied. From week to week I've been discovering new music like crazy, and I keep finding stuff that I like so much. By now, it's reached critical mass, and even with this, there's more stuff waiting in the wings. I'm completely opposed to going any larger than this, but I'm feeling rather confident that I can sustain a Top 40 now going forward, easily. Granted, I've still got till the end of the year should things change, but for now I'm going for it. Pretty much everything that pushes onto the chart this week is some degree of new (OK, "This is What it Feels Like" is probably the only exception). I've been playing "Lay Me Down" for a couple of weeks now - while it's nowhere near being an actual single yet, I can't really justify keeping it off just for that reason. It's because of that, though, that I put the song at #40. In any case, I anticipate a long run from it. And how about two gay Lamberts coming in in the same batch of 10 (one male, one female)? And back-to-back to boot. No song actually falls off this week, but both "Cups" and "Best Song Ever" (for real this time!) should go next week. Further up, Tegan & Sara start to move, as they're now just outside the Top 20. The week's Biggest Mover is once again Britney, leaping another seven notches this week, while "Love Somebody" joins the two expected soon-to-be droppers in falling eight. Train take "Bruises" into the Top 10. They've racked up five #1s, all since 2010...will this become their sixth? Until next week... -Mike

Another (slightly) early posting this week. So, it'll be National Coming Out Day for a few more hours (in my area). And "Same Love", arguably the most widespread LGBT anthem we've seen, has been #1 here for 5 of the past 6 weeks. Wait a minute, what's that you say? Somebody else has taken over that post this week? :O Oh, and Juan Carlos: All the songs you posted about last week go up this week. :) Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: October 12, 2013 TW | LW | WOC | Artist | Title | Peak | 40 | 22 | 7 | Maroon 5 | Love Somebody | 3 | 39 | -- | 1 | Midnight Red | Take Me Home | 39 | 38 | 40 | 2 | Avicii featuring Adam Lambert & Nile Rodgers | Lay Me Down | 38 | 37 | 39 | 2 | Mary Lambert | She Keeps Me Warm | 37 | 36 | -- | 1 | Christina Aguilera | We Remain | 36 | 35 | 30 | 5 | Backstreet Boys | In a World Like This | 27 | 34 | 36 | 2 | Zedd featuring Hayley Williams | Stay the Night | 34 | 33 | 37 | 2 | Armin van Buuren featuring Trevor Guthrie | This is What it Feels Like | 33 | 32 | 34 | 2 | Emeli Sande | My Kind of Love | 32 | 31 | 31 | 2 | Travie McCoy featuring Jason Mraz | Rough Water | 31 | 30 | 35 | 2 | John Newman | Love Me Again | 30 | 29 | 26 | 7 | Lana Del Rey | Summertime Sadness | 14 | 28 | 28 | 2 | Junior Doctor | Dancing in Your Dreams | 28 | 27 | 33 | 2 | Ellie Goulding | Burn | 27 | 26 | 17 | 7 | Labrinth featuring Emeli Sande | Beneath Your Beautiful | 10 | 25 | 29 | 2 | Martin Garrix | Animals | 25 | 24 | 27 | 3 | Cher Lloyd featuring T.I. | I Wish | 24 | 23 | 25 | 4 | Calvin Harris featuring Ayah Marar | Thinking About You | 23 | 22 | 24 | 5 | Krewella | Live For the Night | 22 | 21 | 23 | 6 | Avicii featuring Aloe Blacc | Wake Me Up | 21 | 20 | 10 | 7 | Capital Cities | Safe and Sound | 6 | 19 | 20 | 7 | Lorde | Royals | 19 | 18 | 21 | 6 | Tegan & Sara | Closer | 18 | 17 | 18 | 7 | Parachute | Can't Help | 17 | 16 | 11 | 7 | Cody Simpson | Pretty Brown Eyes | 9 | 15 | 19 | 7 | Paramore | Still Into You | 15 | 14 | 16 | 7 | Katy Perry | Roar | 14 | 13 | 15 | 7 | Drake featuring Majid Jordan | Hold On, We're Going Home | 13 | 12 | 13 | 7 | Pink featuring Lily Allen | True Love | 12 | 11 | 12 | 7 | Avril Lavigne | Rock & Roll | 11 | 10 | 5 | 7 | Phillip Phillips | Gone, Gone, Gone | 3 | 9 | 14 | 4 | Britney Spears | Work Bitch! | 9 | 8 | 8 | 7 | Bonnie McKee | American Girl | 8 | 7 | 9 | 7 | Train featuring Ashley Monroe | Bruises | 7 | 6 | 4 | 7 | Zedd featuring Foxes | Clarity | 1 (1) | 5 | 7 | 7 | Lady Gaga | Applause | 5 | 4 | 6 | 7 | Taylor Swift & Ed Sheeran | Everything Has Changed | 4 | 3 | 2 | 7 | Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding | I Need Your Love | 2 | 2 | 1 | 7 | Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert | Same Love | 1 (5) | 1 | 3 | 7 | Sara Bareilles | Brave | 1 (1) |
DROPPERS:Anna Kendrick - Cups (When I'm Gone) (from 38) One Direction - Best Song Ever (from 32) Well, maybe this shouldn't be so shocking after all. Sara Bareilles takes her message of coming out support and makes it her second #1 here this week. Her next contenders look to be Taylor Swift/Ed Sheeran, and Lady Gaga, who each move up two and into the Top 5. She should be secure for next week, I'm thinking, but beyond that is where the fight will begin. Britney, meanwhile, continues to work, jumping five and landing back in the Top 10. She actually only has two #1s on my chart to her credit - "Toxic" and "3". (Though, she missed out on many between 2006 and 2009 due to my not having a chart.) I'd say her chances are very good for nabbing her third chart-topper here. Lots of songs moving upward, though it's leading to logjams in select areas. We're due to see new Top 10s soon though, as quite a few songs up there now start to fall. Ellie Goulding burns a path up six to become the week's Biggest Mover. "Lights" peaked at #12 here last year, still during the Top 20 days. I don't think she should have that much trouble "Burn"ing past that mark. Maroon 5, meanwhile, take a huge plunge down as the week's Biggest Dropper. Comparing that to Robin Thicke's large drop last month feels too apples-to-oranges to make a real contrast, though. That should just about do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... -Mike

DROPPER:Maroon 5 - Love Somebody (from 40) A pretty slow week this week. Let's take a look at some of the more interesting moves: "Applause" leapfrogs Taylor & Ed to hit #3. Gaga's still got #1 in her sights; this would be her fifth #1 should she get there. Train, meanwhile, are looking for their sixth, as "Bruises" hits the Top 5. After some fast moving into the Top 10, Britney cools off a bit as she only moves two this week. All things considered, though, her slowdown this week is more reflective of a tough Top 10 than her actually slowing down. As she's looking to hit #1 as well, this would be her third. (Yes, third. She only has "Toxic" and "3" to her name as #1s on my chart, though both "Everytime" and "I Wanna Go" reached #2. I should also point out that both the Blackout and Circus eras lost out due to my not having a chart during those.) The queen of #1s, by far, though, is Avril Lavigne, with a full dozen of them to her name, as "Rock & Roll" is the sole new Top 10 entry this week. Pink and Drake are no strangers to the Top 10 should they get there next week, but for Paramore it would be their first ("Still Into You", by the way, is also their first chart single here. Like Britney, they lost out in the 2007-2009 period.) "Roar" has been floundering around in the mid-teens pretty much since the chart's re-start, but I think it's finally about to run out of gas. While Katy's not off to a very good start this era here, I'm thinking that "Unconditionally" will turn things around for her when it hits the chart. Speaking of which, there's only one debut this week, as "What If" marks the chart debut for Five For Fighting at #40. With four falling songs from #30 on down, though, we could see as many as four debuts next week. :) The highest of those songs, "Safe and Sound", is this week's Biggest Dropper, down ten, while not far away, "This is What it Feels Like" is this week's Biggest Mover, up six and pushing its way past three songs to do so. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... -Mike
