moore746i disagree , because its not christina aguileras effort to be i n the top 10 she is only a feature or a guest christina aguilera has over the years became a feature guest artist p diddy maroon 5 nelly and others had hits with her feature although i like her as an artist, unfortunately her last 2 records flopped totally in the us and it will be hard for her to reach the top 10 as a single artist again what wonders me, she said in 2006 that she didnt like the fact to be a feature guest when TELL ME (with diddy ) was released

Featured positions are often used as vehicles to kickstart moribund careers by getting your name out there and piggybacking on a hotter act. It was opined that Mariah edged out of the post-Glitter / meltdown era and paved the way for Emancipation by appearing on Busta's big rhythmic hit.
It's a roll of the dice: Sometimes it works (MC), sometimes it fails (Aguilera translated 'Jagger' into nothing), and sometimes it is just forgotten (T-Pain on Pitbull's "Hey Baby").

Yeah I don't know why people have to keep knocking featured artists. If they didn't contribute anything they wouldn't be there. One way or another someone benefits and a favour is being done but it usually goes both ways.

no no it was nt busta rhymes who made EMANCIPATION OF MIMI a big seller i m from germany and the busta song was a huge hit, it sold nearly 300,000 copies in a time, in which single sales were low i bought the single then too but after the release CHARMBRACELET was released and was a relative flop. through the rain received only lukewarm reception .... THE EMANCIPATION OF MIMI in my eyes was a masterpiece, it had strong singles, and the record was some kind unexpected no featured artists are only second choice celebs in most cases, for example people who start their career (skygelar/keshia cole/bruno mars ) or artists whose career might be in a crisis (x tina/mariah) of course there are the a listed celeb-artists like Rihanna or britney but only in a few cases and those who do the feature without reason for their career (Williams the singer of paramore) who had a feature on b-o-b single. which sold 5 million copies in the us alone

no no it was nt busta rhymes who made EMANCIPATION OF MIMI a big seller The artist still needs strong material with hit potential. "I Know What You Want" preceded "It's Like That" by 2 years. It re-introduced Mariah to pop audiences, but it definitely isn't to thank for her comeback. Even "It's Like That," while her biggest hit in years, wasn't a smash.

I definitely think it was the Busta single that helped with Mariah's image at that time. Everything she touched for several years flopped but her feature on that single, which was a hit, helped her a lot. Obviously it's not ALL Busta but that mixed with some decent material for her next album got Mariah out of that slump.

Mimi was a laughing stock and a late-night punch line from 2001 through 2004; Her brand was deeply damaged, and she had something like 5 singles in a row fail to reach the Billboard top 80. Her collaboration with Busta Rhymes rehabilitated her image for radio programmers. "We Belong Together" didn't appear out of a vacuum, it followed the momentum she had recently built as a featured guest on Busta & then Jadakiss' singles.

so true !
in my eyes mariah is a real diva a real artist with x lives
she could be the cher of the new era
remembΓ©r cher, her career was over by the early 70s then she came in the 70s back with songs like take me home which sold 2,5 million vynils as of 1980 in the us
after 1979 her career was over, then she came 1986 back
after 1991 her career again was over but 1998 was her year
1998 billboard hot 100 year end
now her career is on hiatus
we see many waves of comeback after flops
1. 1970s 2. mid-end 1980s 3. 1998

It was Hunter Hayes' Wanted that was on the wrong chart at #56. For reasons unknown.

I don't know, I think We Belong Together was going to be a massive hit no matter what. It's still a great song and would be a hit if released right now.

It used to be that a song that sold ail lion copies was a huge hit. That's not really the case anymore w downloads. I would call Catch My Breath minor hit record but it still sold 1.1 million downloads.
