Looks like this is the third single from North; Atlantic Records just uploaded it on SoundCloud. Probably won't do much for the era, much like Daughtry's with "Start Of Something Good," but I think it's a good choice.

It might be a minor Hot AC hit.

I think it is not the best choice (Radio) but not a bad one. As long as it was not "Put Your hands Up" like in Aus. I think it may have a fighting chance as i think many stations took a chance on "Overjoyed" but the tempo was just to sleepy (tho i loved it) for what programmers are looking for. this is more to today's Hot AC wheelhouse i believe...

I like this, but I doubt it'll be much of a hit. "Parade" or "Radio" made the most sense, imo. This'll probably hit the top 30 at HotAC, but that's about it.

Ugh. Why they keep on skipping over Parade. It's totally raining on mine when they do that.
...Yep. Totally went there. *hangs head in shame*

lmao!
I'm glad there's at least a third single even if it seems like Hot AC has sailed on MB20. Our Song is okay. I think it stands out enough and while I think Parade is a better single choice, it may actually be too safe and too MB20 which might be why they skip over it.

"Overjoyed" was so blah; this is much better. Definitely. Our Song came up on shuffle today in my car and I was thinking that this should have been the follow up to She's So Mean instead of Overjoyed.

Overjoyed was kind of a similiar song to song's Rob had found some solo success with (Ever The Same). Good song but far from one of the better ones of the album. A misstep as the second single. Having said that, it could have been that nothing would have done really well.
I really like Our Song and I can see why it was choosen over Parade even though that is one of my personal favorites. It's just not the sound HotAC is playing at all right now.
#20 peak for Our Song.

11 adds today for Our Song. Off to a good start. Hopefully "Overjoyed" flopping was related to the song being too sleepy for radio these days, not the band losing favor at radio. I think "Our Song" could go top 10 HAC, with potential for Top 30 on CHR. But we'll see.

I feel MB20 will go the way of the Goo Goo Dolls on HAC too - minor top 30 hits and that's it.
I think it's all over for them on Pop radio.

We don't have a current Rob Thomas thread on these boards so for any fans who may look in here and don't know about this dueet. I love it. They sound great together and I really wish Rob would do a few bluesy rock/country numbers on his next album. It would delight this fan. Appearing on LeAnn's next album, Spitfire, with a summmer release date? www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOtP1OySm7Q

Not going to lie, I thought of Taylor Swift's "Our Song" when I saw the thread title.

Up to #28 on HotAC. What might help this song reach the 20s if it can is the fact that MB20 is promoting a big amphitheater summer tour and many stations in the towns they are hitting will be spinning this has the concert promoter tries to sell tickets/runs ads on local stations. That will help any artist with a tour going on. Also, stations are currently dropping the GGDs lead single so this tour pair-up will need something to keep the tour in the minds of the radion listeners. "Our Song" is catchy so I think top 20 even for this 90s artist still might be attainable. We shall see.
PS - That Florida-Georgia Line song is darn catchy. Easy pick to date for song of the summer.

I hate to say this.
I am a really big Matchbox Twenty fan, was really disappointed at the chart performance of She's So Mean last year (should have been way bigger, not sure what happened), but this album has 50% great, M20 songs, and the other 50% are just awful, aimed at mom\dance music which I 'll never understand why it was recorded as it is really not their sound, this song is one of those songs and I can say this is not one of, it is the worst release Rob Thomas or Matchbox Twenty ever had. It's like they sold out for a Hot AC Top 20 hit...why? Keep your dignity and shoot for AAA. I'll continue to still follow the band but half of the past album...come on guys.
Anyways, I'll be ready for Rob Thomas increasingly good solo material but I hope he still has the success he deserves after this disappointing era.

Yeah, when I bought North, all I could remember was the musical whiplash it gave me because you'd have a great earnest song and then the next one would be a song you'd suspect was penned with ulterior motives. Don't get me wrong, I like a good pop song (or attempts to try new things) in general, but that vibe is just so off-putting. It's a shame though because they are pretty talented and amazing live - I don't see why they should feel like they have to resort to that.

@ "NO BRAKES" and "HErE IS GONE" I tend to agree with u guys -- maybe I would say that "North" is 75% / 25% good to bad rahter than 50/50 ---- But I too wonder where stuff like "Like Sugar" and "Put your Hands Up" came from. They are not MB20 --- I do not like "English Town" either, but at least I can say it is an MB 20 song that I just don't like instead of it just not sounding like them at all. As far as "Our Song" I don't have too much of a problem with that one -- it falls kind of in the middle --- but that may be the problem with it. It just kind of sits there - not offensive and not great -- just average..
But that said - there has to be a commercial consideration and i am afraid great songs like "I Will" and "Parade" might not make it at all on radio. I hope I am wrong!!!!

Parade is too good of a song to not get released but when is the last time they backed a fourth single? I mean hell, Back 2 Good barely got pushed in 99 and Last Beautiful Girl I think was released without any promotion at all in 01 and those were off very successful runs of singles. Don't even get me started on the Downfall\All I Need confusion on the last actual album.
I'll never understand what or how Matchbox Twenty was promoted but it was done so poorly and such a slap to the face of how great of an artist Rob Thomas is, it makes me want to throw up.
I really wonder if Thomas will have radio success on his next album, it's going to have to be good material. The last RT album had three Top 10's right?

PREDICTION TODAY - ROB NEXT SOLO ALBUM IS ALT-COUNTRY!
LOL! I have no idea. I truly thought that about the last MB20 album, too.
Reading the past three to four posts is interesting. The songs singled out on North as not sounding MB20ish are actually two songs written totally by Rob, "Put Your Hands Up" and "Like Sugar." Rob has a very, very pop side and I think it shows up in these songs. Rob's versality as a written may be a blessing and a curse. He can cast a wide net to attract different types of music listeners but at the same time he may turn off as many people as he attracts with songs like "Like Sugar."
As for "Our Song" I like it. I don't think it is going to peak higher than 18 on HotAC but you never know.
I ended up not going to any of the MB20/GGDs tour dates but I've looked at some of the on-line pictures and the outdoor shows seem to be well attended. Good for both bands. They should have a successful tour. :)

So cool to have so many in attendance. :)

It looks like Our Song peaked at #18 with around 9million in audience. I though it might do better than that but HotAC didn't really support this album so it is what it is. It does look like the GGD/MB20 tour is doing really well. It's too bad the Northwest concerter promoters didn't think it would and passed on booking a show in Oregon or Washington state. Looking ahead - Rob talking about his next solo about IN 2014! I'll believe it when I see it. 2016 - Pretty sure we'll see Matchbox Twenty do a theater tour and play YOSLY in it's entirety - 20 year anniversary of it's release. Boy, I'm getting old. I may actually be retired from my current job by then and able to be a groupie and go to a few shows. I haven't seen Rob or MB20 live in 3-4 years. I was disappointed that it was billed as a co-headlining show when in reality MB20 got the lead. They performed for 90 minutes while GGD only got around 60.

I was disappointed that it was billed as a co-headlining show when in reality MB20 got the lead. They performed for 90 minutes while GGD only got around 60. MB20 is a lot bigger band that GGD per JR in the attached article. I'm guessing here but I bet the cut isn't 50/50. MB20 can probably sell 5,000-9,000 tickets in most major markets but can't quite fill an arena or large amphitheater without some help. So this was a good pairing for both bands. GGD can probably swing 3,000-5,000 tickets but combining the two bands together created a sum that was bigger than each individual part. This tour looks like it has been very successful. It's not selling out every night like many of the big country acts are this year or Maroon5/Kelly Clarkson, but then again, neither one of these artists are big radio bands anymore nor do they have any TV exposure (looking right at Blake Shelton and Adam Levine and I guess Kelly Clarkson (Duets)). So I'm guessing that this tour has been a big, pleasant surprise for Live Nation this summer. So to pull this tour together, it would be billed as a co-headlining tour but with MB20 going on last every night and playing longer. GGDs are the bigger radio band but MB20 are the bigger album band. In rock, selling albums usually equates to being able to sell concert tickets. I think that's the difference between the bands in their later years. Plus, GGDs have been around about 10 years longer than MB20 so they may actually be doing better now that MB20 will be doing in 10 years. My guess is that won't be the case but you never know. www.wvgazette.com/Entertainment/201308140073

In case you don't follow the band on twitter, they have recorded a concert for a live DVD. I hope I'll be able to buy it for myself as a Christmas present since I didn't make it to any show since North came out. First live DVD since 2002. That concert was recorded in Atlanta and I was lucky enough to have been at that show 13 years ago. Boy, time does fly.
And something out of left field...the governor of New Jersey (Christie) was at the MB20 show last night. Rob tweeted him afterwards saying it was nice to see him again. He could be our next U.S. President. Time will tell. Now, that's random.
