• This was a particularly competitive week where I actually had to listen to bits of each song in the Top 10 to determine placement. Every song in the Top 7 was considered for #1. Even though Ellie falls 1-14, I don't consider that to be a bad fall because of how competitive the chart is. I ended up sampling every song for the Top 100 because of how close everything is so next week, anything could happen.

• Tegan and Sara moves 30-1 with a song that debuted at #2 back in February before quickly falling off. I Was A Fool is the second official single from Heartthrob and with its jump to #1, they mark the biggest rise to the top since last year when Ellie Goulding moved 34-1 with Anything Could Happen. As it happens, T&S are replacing Ellie who was #1 last week with Figure 8 which falls 1-14 this week, the biggest drop from #1 since My Legs fell 1-15 last year. The week My Legs was #15 was the same week Anything Could Happen was #34. My Legs is back up to #6 this week.

• Pink earns her 16th Top 10 hit with Just Give Me A Reason, only a few weeks after Avril Lavigne got her 16th Top 10, just a few months after Alanis Morissette got her 16th, all of whom are tied for second place among women with the most Top 10s behind Chantal Kreviazuk who has 19. Among men, Mika earns his 4th with Popular Song, and first since Relax made it there in 2007. With that, Mika is now tied for 8th place for men with the most Top 10s where Eminem leads with 20.

• Pink moves into #1 to earn her 6th single to top the chart. Prior to Just Give Me A Reason, she topped the chart with Lady Marmalade (1 week), Don't Let Me Get Me (1 week), Please Don't Leave Me (1 week), Raise Your Glass (2 weeks) and Perfect (4 weeks). With this song, Pink is in fifth place as the artist with the most #1s behind Chantal Kreviazuk (12), Alanis Morissette (9) and KT Tunstall and Lady GaGa (7 each).

• Nate Ruess is a featured artist on the #1 single and with that, he becomes only the fifth artist to top the chart with songs under solo billing and as the lead singer of a group. He had four #1s with his band .fun within the last year. The others have been Rob Thomas/Matchbox Twenty, Beyoncé/Destiny's Child, Gwen Stefani/No Doubt, Martina Sorbara/Dragonette. It's interesting to note that every one of these artists hit #1 as a solo artist featured on a song by someone else. Rob Thomas with Santana, Beyoncé with Jay-Z, Gwen Stefani with Eve and Martina Sorbara with the Basement Jaxx. Only Martina has had a #1 completely solo.

• Nicki Minaj earns an additional two chart title this week on the chart, bringing her total to 51. She is only on one chart entry though, Freaks by French Montana featuring Nicki Minaj at #88. • Nicki and Jay-Z each extend their respective records with new entries this week. Nicki Minaj scores her 52nd chart appearance with an album track from The Re Up while Jay-Z's sole new recording for the Great Gatsby becomes his 42nd, the most for a solo male act and second overall only to Nicki.

• The Great Gatsby Soundtrack provides two covers of recent hits. The Amy Winehouse hit Back To Black originally hit #7 in 2008. This week, the cover by André 3000 and Beyoncé enters. Beyoncé is also the source of another cover from the soundtrack by Emeli Sande as her version of Crazy In Love enters. That song also originally peaked at #7 in 2003.

• With #Beautiful entering at #37, it marks Mariah's highest position on The Max 100 since It's Like That back in 2005 which peaked at #17. #Beautiful also marks Mariah's highest chart entry since the chart became a Top 100 in 1999. Mariah has has three Top 10 singles since The Max's inception in 1998. Heartbreaker hit #3 in 1999, Bringin' On The Heartbreak hit #6 in 2003 and her collaboration with Busta Rhymes, I Know What You Want, made it to #3 also in 2003. #Beautiful is her 23rd chart appearance.

• Demi Lovato has the highest debut with Heart Attack which brings her to the highest position she's reached so far in its first week at #67. Give Your Heart A Break was her previous peak when it hit #77 while her first hit Skyscaper scraped the chart at #98.

• As Natalie Maines jumps 7-2 with Without You, she becomes the highest charting Natalie in The Max history. Before her, two Natalies made it to #3. Natalie Imbruglia made it there for three weeks with her first chart hit in 1998 Wishing I Was There (The Max chart didn't exist in time for Torn). Meanwhile, also in 1998, Natalie Merchant spent two weeks at #3 with Kind & Generous. Others Natalies to chart include Natalie MacMaster who reached #19 with In My Hands and closely related Natalia Kills hit #99 for a week last year.

• Natalie Maines reaches #1 on her first solo outing. The lead singer for the Dixie Chicks has sung on several #1 songs before including Not Ready To Make Nice, which spent 6 weeks there in 2006. To date, this is Natalie's fifth #1, one more than her bandmates who released an album in 2010 as the Court Yard Hounds. Their highest charting song was also their first outing without Natalie on The Coast, which hit #8.

• Mariah reaches her highest peak on The Max 100 as #Beautiful rises to #2 this week, besting her two previous peaks of #3 with her first Max 100 single Heartbreaker and her Busta Rhymes-collab I Know What You Want. It should be noted that Mariah likely would have hit #1 during the Daydream days of 1995-96 had this chart existed back then with Fantasy, One Sweet Day and Always Be My Baby. Those are honourary #1s.

• Polly Scattergood scores her first hit since 2009 when I Hate The Way hit #1. Wanderlust enters the chart at #39, her highest entry of the three songs she's placed inside the Top 100. Other Too Endless charted as an album track and his #93.

• KT Tunstall earns her tenth Top 10 hit this week as the first single from her 4th album Invisible Empire / Crescent Moon. Her most recent song to make the Top 10 was 2010's Fade Like A Shadow which also became her 7th #1 since her debut single back in 2005 Black Horse And The Cherry Tree.

• Natalie Maines falls 1-8 with her one-week chart-topping single Without You, adding to the list of big drops from #1 which have become almost routine as of late. Four of the last fives #1s have fallen from #1 out of the Top 5, which hasn't been too common until recently. Before Natalie, Mika slid 1-7 with Popular Song, Pink and Nate Ruess dropped 1-8 with Just Give Me A Reason and Ellie Goulding tumbled 1-14 with Figure 8. Other notable drops from #1 from years past include last year's likely-record drop from 1-15 when Dragonette's My Legs did it. Back in 1999, Everlast dropped 1-14 with What It's Like marking the only instance of such a large drop.
