Ugly week for digital song sales. It should be interesting how digital sales totals going forward, stack up against last year. I believe at this time last year the digital song sales were unusually strong.
JGMAR will probably be #1, but "Gentleman" still might sneak in if its' YouTube streams are very strong.

Over on the Digital Songs chart, last week's No. 1, Bruno Mars' "When I Was Your Man," drops to No. 6 with 166,000 with a 51% decline.
Macklemore and Lewis are in the top five a second time, as "Thrift Shop" slips 4-5 with 165,000 (down 21%).

Passenger -- Let go
is # 1 in germany, now it could easily become a hit in the us and be sure it will be a one hit wonder
the synth riff in that song is similar to that of WALK OF LIFE by dire straits

Youtube is now a component of popuarity measurement. If we step back a couple years where the components were just sales and airplay, there were lots of examples where big airplay hits did not sell and people bought what radio did not play. So it is obviously possible even then to only be big on one of the cmponents to chart well In recent examples we have had Psy an Bauuer not just do well but dominate one component. Even in the old days, it would be possible to get to #1 on the srength of just one component of it were dominant enough I don't know of any song that went to #1 without significant sales in the days when singles were readily available. Even in the pre-soundscan era, songs would not go to #1 without being top 5 in sales points. Occasionally you would get an American Idol song going to #1, but that would only be for 1 maybe 2 weeks then it would disappear. When I talk about a song being popular I am talking about more than a few weeks. Wasn't Mariah's "We Belong Together" #1 one week when it was all the way down at #19 in sales? It of course peaked higher than that in sales but that was a fairly significant disparity.

Billboard is taking longer than usual to announce this week's no. 1. Rule change incoming... Probably realized they're giving too much weight to YouTube. Good news for Pink.

- a song should have at least 3 days in availability in sales and ondemand/yt streaming to be eligible for charting - a song should have an adds date to any format that contributes to the Radio Songs Chart before charting on the Hot 100 - a song should be top 10 on sales chart before it is eligible for Hot 100 well, other than that I can't think of any last-minute rule change to disqualify 'Gentleman' to #1 spot in case it generates enough points on youtube alone

If they were about to change the rules now they would've done it when Harlem Shake was #1 for fifth week.

Yay!!! So glad she made it! So amazing how P!nk's career has hit a big high since the release of her greatest hits album. Hopefully this success continues for a while longer!

Why would they have changed the rules? It was pretty obvious Psy wouldn't be #1 from 2 days of Youtube... Maybe it debuted #8 or so, but it will only be #1 next week (at the very most)
