P!nk Holds at No. 1 on Hot 100, While Rihanna Rules at RadioP!nk tallies a third week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Just Give Me a Reason," featuring fun.'s Nate Ruess. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, meanwhile, notch a second leader on Digital Songs and Rihanna ties for the most No. 1s in the Radio Songs chart's history. "Reason" remains atop the Hot 100 despite not leading any of the survey's main component charts. The song holds at No. 3 on Radio Songs, up by 10% to 125 million all-format audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS; lifts 6-5 on Streaming Songs with a 2% increase to 4.7 million streams, according to BDS; and falls 1-2 after four weeks atop Digital Songs (253,000 downloads sold, down 4%), according to Nielsen SoundScan. As previously reported, "Reason" rises 2-1 on the Adult Pop Songs radio airplay chart this week, marking her record-setting eighth leader on the list. "Reason" fends off Macklemore & Lewis' "Can't Hold Us," featuring Ray Dalton (2-2), for a second week on the Hot 100. The latter song, however, becomes the pair's second career-opening No. 1 on Digital Songs (2-1), increasing by 6% to 259,000 downloads sold; the duo's "Thrift Shop," featuring Wanz (down 3-4 on the Hot 100), ruled Digital Songs for 10 weeks. "Hold" leads the subscription services-based On-Demand Songs chart for a second frame; rises 5-2 on Streaming Songs (on which "Shop" rebounds 2-1 for a sixth week in charge); and bumps 8-6 on Radio Songs. "Reason" reigns over "Hold" in the tightest race between the Hot 100's top two titles in almost six months, with the former song collecting just 2% more overall chart points this week. "Reason" gains by 1% and "Hold," 14%, perhaps setting the stage for "Hold" to hit No. 1 next week. "Hold" also spends a second week at No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Rihanna's "Stay," featuring Mikky Ekko, jumps 6-3 on the Hot 100 (returning to its peak position), fueled in part by a milestone 2-1 coronation on Radio Songs (134 million, up 4%). The ballad becomes Rihanna's 11th No. 1 on Radio Songs, tying her with Mariah Carey for the most leaders dating to the BDS-based chart's December 1990 inception. Usher ranks third with seven Radio Songs No. 1s, followed by Ludacris and Kanye West, each with six, and 50 Cent, Beyonce, Boyz II Men, Bruno Mars and Katy Perry (five each). "Stay" bullets at No. 4 on Digital Songs (162,000, up less than 1%) and No. 15 on Streaming Songs (2.9 million, up 10%). Below Macklemore & Lewis' "Shop," Justin Timberlake's "Mirrors" (7-5) is the Hot 100's top Airplay Gainer for a second consecutive week. The cut lifts 9-5 on Radio Songs (97 million, up 39%), while pushing 5-3 on Digital Songs (175,000, up 24%) and keeping at No. 9 on Streaming Songs (4 million, up 12%). With its latest sales frame, "Mirrors" passes 1 million downloads sold to date. Bruno Mars' "When I Was Your Man" falls 4-6 on the Hot 100 after leading it three weeks ago. It also drops 1-2 after five weeks atop Radio Songs. Timberlake's previous single, the No. 3-peaking "Suit & Tie," featuring Jay-Z, rebounds 8-7 on the Hot 100, while Pitbull's "Feel This Moment," featuring Christina Aguilera, returns to its peak (9-8) (and rises 2-1 for a second week atop Dance/Electronic Songs). Swedish duo Icona Pop reaches the Hot 100's top 10 with its maiden chart hit, "I Love It," featuring Charli XCX (13-9). The dance/pop track, aided earlier by its placement in HBO's "Girls," bounds 23-14 on Radio Songs (54 million, up 18%) and climbs 8-7 on Digital Songs, with its 133,000 downloads sold (up 5%) pushing it past 1 million sold since its release. The song bullets at No. 23 on Streaming Songs (2.1 million, up 10%). Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive" returns to the Hot 100's top 10 (12-10) after reaching No. 7 four weeks ago. The track tops Hot Rock Songs for a sixth week. Outside the top 10, notable for its plunge on the Hot 100 is K-Pop star PSY's "Gentleman," which tumbles 5-26. The song debuted at No. 12 two weeks ago, powered by initial online buzz for its video. It falls 1-6 after two weeks atop Streaming Songs (4.7 million U.S. streams, down 66%), even ranking below his breakout hit from last year, "Gangnam Style," which holds at No. 3 on Streaming Songs (5.3 million, down 22%). ("Gentleman" is now up to 252 million YouTube views worldwide [as of this posting]; the Hot 100, however, includes only U.S. views each week.) Sales for "Gentleman" also decrease by 50% to 36,000. The song's 1.2 million in radio audience is not yet a significant factor in its chart fortunes, accounting for just 1% of its Hot 100 chart points. Check Billboard.com tomorrow (May 2), when all rankings, including the Hot 100 in its entirety and Digital Songs, Radio Songs, Streaming Songs and On-Demand Songs will be refreshed, as they are each Thursday. www.billboard.com/articles/news/1560133/pink-holds-at-no-1-on-hot-100-while-rihanna-rules-at-radio

Get that 3rd week Pink! Now they just need to pull a When I was Your Man and half price Stay so it can get the #1. Then the holy trinity of pop ballads can all be Hot 100 #1's. And lmao at Gentleman already falling off the cliff.

Good week. Just Give Me a Reason still atop, Can't Hold Us #1 next week, Stay return to its peak, Mirrors inside the top 5, I Love It enters the Top 10 and Radioactive re-enters. Loved it all.

Too bad Stay won't go any higher than its original peak. Very impressed with its longevity though.

Good for JGMAR . I am looking forward to see Can't Hold Us next week. It looks like Stay would never be Rihanna's 13th #1 (A #2 peak is possible though). Mirrors is getting stronger in all components (especially in radio), it would be a runner up and great contender for "Can't Hold Us" .
Good to see "Radioactive" back even with a weak airplay. Icona Pop's "I Love It" might enter the top 5 soon. No "Gentleman" (i wonder if it would stay on hot 100 for 10 weeks).

Too bad Stay won't go any higher than its original peak. Very impressed with its longevity though. Simple price cut and it could do it easily. Look how fast When I was Your Man raced back to #1 on iTunes after its price cut. Sure it's manipulation, but hey they've already done that with Rihanna to get #1's before. S&M "rihmix" anyone?

Your point? It's an R&B-flavored song achieving huge gains in the top 10 - reminiscent of some hits a few years ago. I thought he was just saying that one song doing it isn't reminiscent of a time when several songs regularly did that; at the moment Justin is still an aberration. Well, that and "Mirrors" is maybe the only track on the album which actually is more immediately pop sounding than r&b influenced, so it really doesn't bring to mind the old days of r&b being in favor (I would have agreed if you'd said it about S&T though). JMO though. I could have misinterpreted what he meant.

I'm really surprised Rihanna's label hasn't done some sort of sale-price/remix/whatever promo tactic to get at least a week at #1. The past couple weeks would've been prime opportunities, but Macklemore is probably going to have an insurmountable lead at #1 within the next couple weeks.
Also I am SO excited for Icona Pop!
And, it seems like YouTube is effectively having the same impact for novelty songs as "buzz singles" due during album countdowns. Psy hitting #5 and then tumbling isn't really that different from a hot artist having an album countdown song spend a week in the top ten and then plummet.

Amazing! third week for JGMAR! Love ya P!nk! LMFAO at "Gentleman" and its poor sales, the song won't be touched by pop radio I think and the GP isn't here for it, it was just curiosity. I wonder if he's going to promote in the US soon.

They wouldn't want to do the price cut this week since they've already missed Sun-Wed sales. They should do it Sunday or Monday and then it might be able to be #1 on the Hot 100 2 weeks from now.

2 weeks from now Stay will be freefalling on pop and likely losing airplay overall. Depends how it holds on HAC and rhythmic by then, and how fast it falls on pop. The airplay gap will be almost negligible, the sales gap will be big for CHU (obviously would be different with a remix/discount for Stay), and streaming would be a HUGE lead for CHU.
Stay's not getting #1. It's just not going to happen, unless they discounted/remixed right now. They would lose a couple sale days, but waiting another week would just lose a lot of the airplay advantage and allow the streaming gap to further even more.

I actually wouldn't mind a hot remix of Stay, even with Bruno. The downside to that, of course, is that Ekko would be the one to lose out on that one.

19th week in the top 10 for Thrift Shop. Definitely #1 for the year so far. I wonder how long it will stay top 10; it's still so huge on streaming...

In fact, Mirrors is closer to R&B than Dimonds could ever hope to be. I always use the test if a black person sung the song would it be considered R&B. The answer is in the case of Mirrors YES.

I wasn't trying to make any sort of chart feat out of it, just that this particular song's performance reminds me of a different time on the airplay charts.

I'm sure they have other opportunities down the road, Right Now, feature/soundtrack single, etc. to have it where she'll have #13 by the fall.

"Stay" isn't going #1. Even with a price reduction, remix, performance, and new video all on the same week. "Can't Hold Us" is just goint to be too strong next week and "Mirrors" is right behind it. It might get lucky enough for a #2 spot next week, but it's unlikely. Still, though, #3 isn't anything to sneeze at. Especially for the type of song it is. It's having spectacular longevity, and I love that for Rihanna right now. "Diamonds" had good longevity as well. Nice to see Rihanna staying on the charts longer rather than clogging them up with a billion singles at once. Glad to see "Just Give Me a Reason" got a third, and likely final, week at number one! This song has turned into such a smash, and I'm so happy it did. She and the song deserved it all. Nate as well. I'm still laughing at Psy, though. "Gentleman" tumbles to number 26 and it's already fallen below "Gangnam Style" in streaming. I guess we can say that those high number of views were definitely curiosity views. And yay at Icona Pop and Imagine Dragons in the top ten!!!

although there's still time left for something to happen, it's surprising to see Rihanna's label pass on a potential No. 1 single like this. I suppose even a $0.69 discount wouldn't guarantee No. 1 at this point, but her team was just so on it during the Loud era...both "Only Girl" and "S&M" got the little nudges they needed right in time for them to reach No. 1. the last time she came this close to No. 1 without her team doing any kind of push for No. 1 was back in '08 with DSTM. even if her label really believes in holding out on streaming (assuming it still isn't on streaming services), they haven't hesitated to discount or throw together a remix in the past, why stop now? EDIT: based on some of the posts above, maybe her team has crunched the numbers and decided that No. 1 really is simply impossible right now. still a bit surprising/uncharacteristic for them to not even try, though.

But, how could they crunch the numbers when they don't know the exact formula and points? It would be refreshing if the label doesn't try to pull out all the stops. The gains for "Mirrors" at top 40 radio are quite astonishing.

Week Ending April 28, 2013. Songs: Rihanna Ties Mariah
“Stay” by Rihanna featuring Mikky Ekko jumps to #1 on the all-format Radio Songs chart, displacing Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man,” which had ruled for five weeks. It’s Rihanna’s 11th #1 on the chart, which puts her in a tie with Mariah Carey for the most #1s in the chart’s 22-year history. (This isn’t the Hot 100, but rather the key radio chart that is a component of the Hot 100.) On the Hot 100, “Stay” rebounds from #6 to #3, which matches its highest ranking to date.
Wanna know the rest of the artists with the most #1 hits on the Radio Songs chart? Billboard’s Gary Trust notes that Usher is in third place with seven #1 hits, followed by Ludacris and Kanye West, with six each. 50 Cent, Beyonce, Boyz II Men, Bruno Mars and Katy Perry have each had five.
Carey and Usher are both reality TV stars this season (on American Idol and The Voice, respectively). It’s precisely these Radio Songs smashes that gave them the credibility to land these lucrative TV gigs. (Imagine what kind of money the networks would throw at current radio titans, such as Rihanna, Mars or Perry. Of course, those artists are a little busy just now.)
“Just Give Me A Reason” by P!nk featuring Nate Ruess tops the Hot 100 for the third straight week. The song tops the 2 million mark in digital sales this week. “Just Give Me A Reason” has a slim 2% lead in overall chart points over “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Ray Dalton, which holds at #2 for the second week. That was the tightest race for #1 in almost six months.
“Can’t Hold Us” moves up to #1 on Hot Digital Songs. The duo’s previous hit, “Thrift Shop,” was the #1 digital seller for 10 weeks. This gives the duo 11 weeks atop the Digital Songs chart so far this year, which may be an insurmountable lead. Carly Rae Jepsen and Taylor Swift each topped the chart for eight weeks last year, which was more than any other act. LMFAO was #1 for 11 weeks in 2011, which was more than any other act that year. Katy Perry was the 2010 leader, with 10 weeks on top. The Black Eyed Peas were out front for 20 weeks in 2009, which is more than any other act in a calendar year since the inception of the Digital Songs chart in October 2004.
“Can’t Hold Us” holds at #1 on Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs for the second week. “Thrift Shop” headed the chart the previous 14 weeks. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis is the first lead artist to remain #1 on this chart for 16 or more consecutive weeks since Alicia Keys was on top for 17 consecutive weeks in late 2007 and early 2008 with “No One” (10 weeks) followed by “Like You’ll Never See Me Again” (seven weeks). If you broaden the discussion to include featured artists, Lil Wayne was on top for 18 consecutive weeks in 2011 with Kelly Rowland’s “Motivation” and then DJ Khaled’s “I’m On One” (which also featured Drake and Rick Ross).
Justin Timberlake lands his 11th top five hit since going solo as “Mirrors” jumps from #7 to #5. With *NSYNC, he had six top five hits from 1999 to 2002. “Mirrors” tops the 1 million mark in digital sales this week.
Like most pop and hip-hop stars, Timberlake has released a lot of collabos. “Mirrors” is his fourth top five hit that is strictly a solo endeavor. It follows “Cry Me A River,” “Rock Your Body” and “What Goes Around…Comes Around.”
Timberlake has a second song in this week’s top 10. “Suit & Tie,” his smash collabo with Jay-Z, rebounds from #8 to #7. “Suit And Tie” is one of seven songs to have sold 2 million copies so far in 2013. It’s the only one of the seven that was first released in 2013.
“Feel This Moment” by Pitbull featuring Christina Aguilera rebounds from #9 to #8, matching its highest ranking to date. The song returns to #1 on Dance/Electronic Songs, displacing PSY’s “Gentleman,” which took an unexpected tumble. (Details below the top 10.)
“I Love It” by Swedish duo Icona Pop featuring Charli XCX jumps from #13 to #9. The song tops the 1 million mark in digital sales this week.
Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive” jumps from #12 to #10. This puts the song back in the top 10 after a three-week absence. It’s #1 on Rock Songs for the sixth week. The band has three songs on this week’s Hot 100. “It’s Time,” which peaked at #15, dips from #48 to #49. “Demons,” which has climbed as high as #89, re-enters the chart at #96.
Here's the low-down on this week's top 10 songs.
The Top Five: “Just Give Me A Reason” by P!nk featuring Nate Ruess holds at #1 for the third week in its 11th week on the chart. This is its seventh week in the top 10. Nah, not gonna happen. Stay has done its job. I'm sure they have other opportunities down the road, Right Now, feature/soundtrack single, etc. to have it where she'll have #13 by the fall. You're quoting the wrong person again... But since I've been brought into the subject, I agree that the song has had an impressive run and there's no reason to act like the song has undeperformed just b/c it didn't peak at #1. But I also am surprised that they didn't try to do more to maximize its chances of getting there; though it's too late now there were a couple of previous weeks where the song did have a good chance, if she'd had streaming and/or a discount to boost sales. (Ex., it's still a decent bit ahead of JGMAR on radio, so higher sales and some streaming points could have put Ri ahead of P!nk's for at least one week).

Wow! I assume streaming of the music video is the reason for Ciara's huge debut. :o

How does Paul Grein know the position below the top 10 in advance? (Sorry for the question , I'm just new here.)
