This kind of has to do with the charts. Who besides Lady Gaga do you think will preform at the VMAs? I guess Taylor Swift(Red/Everything Has Changed), Rihanna(Right Now) or Macklemore(Same Love/Cant Hold Us/And We Danced)

There is a thread right below this one regarding the MTV music awards. Why discuss in two different threads?

That country thing going on the verses will definitely help the song.

The song is still folk and not country, but yeah the distinct sound may propel it into the top 10. It's already starting to pick up airplay and it'll be released on 11th of August I recall. I Could Be The One >>> Wake Me Up. Any day, always.

1. ROBIN THICKE – Blurred Lines f/Pharrell & T.I: 237.273 (+2.150) It will take forever for this song to fall off the Airplay top 20 when it's finally done. The song may last 45+ weeks on the Hot 100. 2. DAFT PUNK – Get Lucky: 177.986 (-0.165) It's falling on Alternative and it has a bad day I guess. But this will peak in two weeks at most. 8. ZEDD – Clarity f/Foxes: 98.864 (+2.047) In - let's go with - January I would never dream of this reaching top 20 on Airplay let alone breaking the 100M line. 10. MACKLEMORE & RYAN LEWIS – Same Love f/Mary Lambert: 93.618 (+1.272) This will never be a #1 digital smash and even "Can't Hold Us" was blocked from #1 on Airplay. It's still doing incredibly well and should peak around #3-4 on radio. 11. JASON DERULO – The Other Side: 87.575 (+0.242) The power of CHR, lol. 12. FLORIDA-GEORGIA LINE – Cruise f/Nelly: 83.846 (-0.353) FASTER! 15. CALVIN HARRIS F/ELLIE GOULDING – I Need Your Love: 76.706 (-0.159) Not this peaking already... I guess it still did well. 18. CAPITAL CITIES – Safe And Sound: 72.423 (+2.099) Surprise hit! CIARA – Body Party: 45.830 (+0.592) MILEY CYRUS – We Can’t Stop: 45.825 (+0.424) KE$HA – Crazy Kids: 25.923 (+0.258) AUSTIN MAHONE – What About Love: 24.651 (+0.257) LANA DEL REY – Summertime Sadness: 16.469 (+0.630) PINK – True Love f/Lily Allen: 12.923 (+1.026)PARAMORE – Still Into You: 12.568 (+0.446) TAYLOR SWIFT – Everything Has …f/Ed Sheeran: 11.893 (+0.942) PASSENGER – Let Her Go: 2.023 (+0.225) I need all of these to smash. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE – Take Back The Night: 44.742 (+2.935)JAY Z – Holy Grail f/Justin Timberlake: 36.291 (+1.024) Justin and Jay

In my "Monday Morning Replay" newsletter from AllAccess this morning, this quote about Robin Thicke was in there: "THICKE becomes the first artist ever to exceed 200 million in audience for all formats combined, moving to 215 million this week". Of course this is referring to Mediabase numbers, but I thought it was interesting.

^Maybe for the Published Panel, "Blurred Lines" is the first? The Quick-Cut Airplay includes all stations, so maybe so. Wither that, or MB didn't do its homework.

Yeah, that is definitely for the published panel only, not the all-stations panel that's posted here.
This is why AI is so hard to keep records and trackings of. You have three different numbers with all very eratic histories.

Wouldn't it be nice if Top 40 radio actually played older, recurrent/gold tracks like AC radio does- but if it did, we wouldn't see tracks with the huge amount of plays that they get at top 40 radio.

Other Airplay updates (7/22/2013) ELTON JOHN - Home Again: 1.789 (+ 0.157) Wish this was playlisted outside adult stations as well but it's just impossible.

I disagree with that. It would be cool for Top 40 to play more new songs rather than concentrate their spins so much towards their top songs, but giving more spins to old songs is counterintuitive to the purpose of the format. HAC and AC radio fulfill that very well.

^Understood- just a personal preference. :) There are two a couple of 60s/70s/80s stations in my listeninh area that I'd take any day over top 40 radio.

What a great article. Billboard should further diminish airplay as a metric for the HOT 100 and other charts.

What a great article. Billboard should further diminish airplay as a metric for the HOT 100 and other charts. I agree that it shouldn't have as strong of a factor into the Hot 100 as it does, but it is still an incredibly important factor in the music industry, as that article points out, and it needs to remain in the Hot 100 in some shape or form no matter what.

What a great article. Billboard should further diminish airplay as a metric for the HOT 100 and other charts. Your right the biggest factors should be digital sales and youtube views
