I see that a lot of people are comparing the Morgan Wallen situation with what happened to The Chicks in 2003. A major difference between the two situations that people havenât brought up is that a lot of listeners were calling stations and asking them to stop playing The Chicks. Natalieâs comments were made about a week before the Iraq war started, and many people took the comments as disrespectful to the troops and traitorous. The listener outcry led to many stations pulling their music ( more locally made decision back then as there were more locally owned stations).
As for Morgan, the major radio companies made the boycott decision without any output from their listeners. That could be a factor for some people on why they were upset about the ban.

I also think the difference (not the major but the one) is that country radio is extremely sexist so boycotting The Chicks (and sticking to it) was quite easy.

This is why the term "racism" is being used. As your post points out, many country listeners won't stand for something they see as disrespect for the troops, yet apparently aren't upset by a word that is disrespectful of Black people. Telling. Ingrid Andress will be embarking on a solo U.S/European tour in 2022! She is opening for Dan + Shay's arena tour this fall/winter.

Ingrid Andressâ first collaboration rumored to be titled âWishful Drinkingâ is set to be released soon. She hasnât specified if itâs with a country artist though, but I would hope it is since it looks like radio is done with âLady Likeâ.
Ingrid has been performing the song live at her recent shows and it sounds like an Ingrid tune minus the tune being piano driven (the studio version may sound different though).

Excited for this! I wonder she's ever been promoted on the radio. I don't remember seeing her name, even on the secondary radio chart, such as MusicRow Chart. I hope she will get a chance one day.

I'm actually pretty surprised she hasn't been picked up by a label by now, even if it's a small one or one that doesn't predominantly focus on radio success (e.g. Songs & Daughters). She's got nearly 50K followers on Instagram, which is much more than most of the newer female artists that were signed recently that I looked up. I think she has a lot of hit potential and would love to see her get picked up soon and pushed to radio!

I love this genre but letâs be real here, a lot of fans donât care about what Morgan Wallen did because Wallen didnât say anything they donât say all the time.
Itâs not âpersonal lives are personal livesâ and itâs not âeveryone can change.â
Itâs the fact that canceling Wallen for that would require canceling themselves and theyâre not going to do that.

Exactly why so many country artists are ok with it too.

Has there been any indication of George Strait back in the studio for his next album? It's been two years since the last release and it feels like we're about due for some news :)

It just so happens that George did a random interview back in May with Cody Alan for the CMT Hot 20 Countdown that week in which I found to be a bit interesting. I then started skimming through both the BMI and ASCAP Repertoires to see if there were any recent songs listed with either him as the performer or songwriter (I also look for anything written by his son Bubba), and sure enough there were. This is all speculation of course, but I believe that he was likely in Nashville last May recording his next album and since he has quite a few shows lined up this fall/winter, I'd wager than a new album is on the horizon sooner rather than later .

There was a 4 year gap between âCold Beer Conversationâ & âHonky Tonk Time Machineâ itâs only been a little over 2 years since it was released. I do remember when he started doing his Vegas shows that he signed a new contract for 5 more albums with MCA. Iâm with yâall thou I love all his albums and still canât believe they didnât release âSome Nightsâ as a single.

Not releasing Some Nights as a single didnât make sense, but then again it likely wouldnât have done much above #50 on the airplay chart and therefore unlikely to move the streaming or purchasing needle any. Itâs a song that would have been a multi-week #1 15 years ago.

http://instagram.com/p/CRolzC1NkbA Steven Lee Olsen is releasing 5 new songs next Fri! He's been quiet lately, so excited for this. I suppose he was promoted in the US with Raised By A Good Time, but also known as a song writer. He wrote Leave Me Alone by Brett Young and No Sad Songs by Niko Moon, for instance.

Michael Stahan kinda imploded Chris Harrisonâs shitty redemption tour, so hopefully heâll call MW out on the same.

I failed to understand why you would think a pre-taped (I think?) interview would implode his image, unless Strahan "reflected his unhappiness on the air" again, which I think his team would prevent it from happening.

Whose team? Morganâs? What control would they have over Michael? If Michael was willing to criticize a fellow ABC employee on air after an interview not sure why heâd hold back for some country singer looking for a redemption tour.

Would someone have power to stop a pre-taped interview from airing if they didn't like how it went? I'd assume there is some contract the interviewee signs to prevent them from having that power. I'd find it hard to imagine news stations wouldn't have the power in this scenario.
Regardless, I'm excited to hear this interview. I'm not in the camp that thinks people need to be cancelled forever if they show that they've put in work to change and learn, but Morgan has done absolutely nothing to prove that he's done that. I'm hoping that this interview will highlight what, if anything, Morgan has actually done to redeem his past and to warrant him coming back with a push of a new single. We'll be able to see if his answers sound sincere or are just performative to try and get back in good graces. Hoping Michael comes in with some hard-hitting questions and doesn't let Morgan off easy. Personally, I still think it's too early for a comeback from him, but maybe he's done more than we think behind the scenes. Doubtful, but I'd like to be surprised.
