Ugh, someone needs to kick Florida Georgia Line and Anna Kendrick out of the top 10 already.

#2 debut with only 320k? Gaga can debut at #1 easily if she debuts the video right away.

I'm surprised One Direction debuted at #2, when Gentleman by PSY only got #5.

So sick of seeing "Can't Hold Us" & "Cruise" still in the Top10 ugh I'm even more sick of the weekly updates about how "Cruise" is one of (and now it's THE) biggest country hit ever, when country radio moved on from that song like...6-7 months ago it's only topping that bastardized country chart because of all the POP airplay (and digital downloads). "I Want Crazy" can't de-throne it soon enough...

^Exactly, I loved the pre-mix version, but Nelly on that song does nothing for me. I'm tired of seeing songs peaking on charts they have no business peaking on. Even the 11 weeks for Get Lucky on the Dance chart is annoying to me. That chart used to have such frequent turnover.

I'm almost positive it'll jump to #1 in its second week, but don't know what's after that... The sales will decline by a lot. Idk how much can VMA help it.

The Dance / Electronic Songs chart never replaced the original as the original isn't dead yet.

OD's streaming was much higher than I was expecting. I was thinking roughly 4.5-5 million, which probably would've put them at #4 instead of #2. Nearly 8 million! Crazy! Their US viewers' percentage must have increased as the week went on.

This chart era would be weighted differently than when the country chart was airplay only. So 20+ weeks at #1 can only be compared to other songs since the chart switch and nothing from before. They use a methodology now where eras corresponding to major chart changes will get different weights to try to put everything on an even playing field over time.

I agree completely, but that's not how Billboard has been handling the story thus far. FGL were recently on the cover of BB mag, and the story was all about how "Cruise" was tied as one of the biggest country hits ever (at the time, since now BB is claiming they have THE biggest country hit ever). in the cover story article, there was one brief mention of how "Cruise"'s success was due "in part" to the recent methodology change. "in part" is a total joke. it owes this accomplishment ENTIRELY to the methodology change. I believe "Cruise" spent 3 weeks atop Country Airplay...so it owes the other 19 friggen weeks to the ridiculous new genre chart formula. if Paul Grein was the only one acknowledging this "record", I wouldn't mind as much, but it's the BB staff who are creating all this fanfare around this "accomplishment" without giving sufficient context. I get that "Biggest Country Hit EVER" is an eye-catching headline, but it's only encouraging a misunderstanding of how their charts actually work.

They are acknowledging that it is the longest runnnig #1 in the history of the chart. That is not the same thing as saying it is the biggest hit ever.
Example: The longest running #1 on the history of the Hot 100 is ranked as the 34th biggest in that chart history.

Is it only because now Billboard includes Sales / downloads in the country chart now? Was the sales component not figured in before?

It was country airplay only.
Now it is the same formula as the Hot 100, effectively making the current country chart a direct subset of the Hot 100

Example: The longest running #1 on the history of the Hot 100 is ranked as the 34th biggest in that chart history. I do get the difference, but whether they're calling it the "longest-running No. 1" or the "biggest country hit ever", my point still stands: I dislike the level of fanfare BB is giving this accomplishment, because it was only possible thanks to a methodology change that's not even 2 years old (yet they keep referencing how it's breaking all-time records for the chart). they're comparing accomplishments between charts that were calculated almost completely differently, while giving little (if any) explanation of that fact. I find it especially ridiculous since this is about a country genre accomplishment, but it was made possible due to POP airplay.

I think it's dumb billboard hasn't always included sales in country charts. Carrie Underwood's songs would have stayed at #1 a lot longer if they had, especially Before He Cheats.

You could say that about any statistic. Methodology changes and market changes over time make today's feats not comparable to feats of the past. This applies to country, pop, Hot 100 or just about anything
But the fact that a unique statistic occured doesn't mean they shouldn't report it.
The next pop-country crossover hit will also spend 20 weeks at #1
