..Katy Perry Drops New Song, 'Roar'
By Miriam Coleman | Rolling Stone – 3 hours ago ....
Katy Perry's first single from her forthcoming new album, Prism, has hit the airwaves. According to Billboard, the song was originally scheduled to premiere on Monday, August 12th, but it leaked onto the internet on Saturday morning. In response, the song saw an early release to radio stations, including Clear Channel, which will be airing it hourly. Perry tweeted this morning that the track will be out on iTunes tonight at midnight, EDT. "Looks like there's a tiger on the loose!!!" she wrote.
With its easy poppy beat and repeated refrains of "You held me down but I got up," and "You're gonna hear me roar," the lead single strikes a determined note for the new album.
Prism, Perry's fourth studio album, and first since 2010's Teenage Dream, is due out October 22nd. The pop star has been promoting the record with a shiny gold 18-wheeler truck traveling across the contry emblazoned with the title and release date. TMZ reports that the golden truck was hit by a drunk driver on Friday at a Walmart parking lot in Pennsylvania. The driver was uninjured and Perry later tweeted "The #Prism semi is bumped & bruised but she is a champion! She will return..."

Are CC stations airing it hourly today and Monday?

Hourly deals are boring to me even though I know they are standard now. Like, I can't even really be excited because it feels like "fake" numbers until the dust settles. I will be more interested in Katy's second/third week, Gaga's second/third week, and every song that has a deal's second or third week ha ha. I guess it is fun to see songs go really high really fast though.

It's a good song, but too loud for radio Nothing should be too loud for radio. Radio stations should be compressing everything to ensure that nothing is too loud.

I heard MTN on radio and it WAS loud. Disturbing. I don't even know how to explain that. Even "Bloody Mary" would have been better suited for radio that Fall.

Yay for "Roar" but it'll be difficult to beat "Blurred Lines". :(

I love that BL has such a lead because it has prevented piles of feces such as Miley's WCS from going no. 1.
I also hope it blocks Katy. The sooner she moves on to the 2nd single the better.

Will Katy's hourly airplay deal affect Blurred Lines' airplay?

The hourly deal is short-term so I doubt it

So, was there also hourly-play promo Sunday or no? Those numbers look rather high for a non-promo, even given her hitmaker status.

Adonis will be thrilled to hear the news! Edit: Though, this is only talking about iTunes, which makes up like, what, roughly 65-70% of digital sales? But that's still 511,038-530,693. It's also saying BL will pull in 294,503-305,830. lulz

Well, yeah, it's a site that tells you the estimated sales from iTunes by using the popbars.

Even this doesn't give the true sales, like the popbars, it is only estimates relative to each other. In fact, as you said, it IS the popbars, just displayed differently

OMG, Gaga released her single today too? Next week's thread is going to explode. WHat a mess! I wonder why it is so hard to keep a single from being leaked!

GaGa trying to upstage Poor Katy.
Roar is more Instant, so i expect it to connect more with <i hate the generalisation> the general public.
GaGa will top Katy Initially due to the fan base and Hype, expect Miss Perry to come Roaring <Pun intended> back when the fanfare dies down.

RE: "Leaking"...
Is this primarily someone along the chain of command (between song-production and DJ putting the song on the air) 'illegally' throwing it on the internet prematurely? Why would they? What am I missing... what's an extra day or two?
Or is it really (wink wink nudge nudge) marketing?

RE: "Leaking"... Is this primarily someone along the chain of command (between song-production and DJ putting the song on the air) 'illegally' throwing it on the internet prematurely? Yes. Someone somehow gets a hold of it early and puts it onto the Internet before they're supposed to. Why would they? What am I missing... what's an extra day or two? If the release is largely hyped, it would bring a lot of attention to their blogs, channels, etc. People want new music ASAP, and if you're one of the few that has that new hot song people are dying to hear, that power could overwhelm you and, bam, you're putting it onto the Internet early. It could really drastically throw off the artist's plan. For example, Katy and Gaga were a week apart. Now all of a sudden they're going head-to-head. Someone's going to defeat the other, rather than them both having a chance to be "top dog" of the week. In Gaga's case, the song actually didn't leak, but instead, it was going to leak soon with all of those LQ clips leaking. So, the label decided to push the release up to beat the leak. Katy was lucky and only leaked two days early, so they were able to keep the dates the same, but Gaga's was going to leak nearly a full week early, which could drastically cut into sales, so they had to move it up.
