How many weeks has "Blurred Lines" spent at #1 on Billboard Radio Songs? It seems it's been on top like forever.
Yay for "Roar" going strong.

As many of you already know, Bill Werde (Billboard's Editorial Director) are personally answering many questions on ATRL. A few hours ago he addressed digital sales: "The digital era has not peaked. It's possible the downloading of singles has peaked. But streaming is just getting started. As of 2012 there were 313.9 million people in the United States. My best estimate is there are now 11 million people using a subscription service, be it free or paid. That's less than 4 percent of Americans. I'm a big believer that number grows substantially in the coming 5-10 years." Question: Do you think the digital era has peaked? I'm saying it because overall digital single sales are decreasing compared from last year and it's the first year this happens. Or is it just 2012 was absolutely full of huge smashes (Somebody That I Used To Know, Call Me Maybe, We Are Young)? Other notable answers regarding charts: "What should be included that isn't? Nothing planned right now, but we stay nimble. Presently considering the album chart and how/if to count giveaways a la Magna Carta" Question: "Are there changes soon to come in the billboard chart data format from the hot 100 (as we have seen the inclusion of streaming sites and youtube)? when I mean soon, I mean like within the rest of this year 2013. Thanks if you answer this "Which iTunes question? Sorry. There's a lot of pages of questions and I'm kind of randomly jumping around as I view this forum on my phone between meetings and in taxis. We don't comment on the threshold because we don't want to create a road map for labels or fans or anyone to cheat. Suffice it to say that fan activity that is conceivably normal will count. Systems look for anomalies, be them by geographic region or individual IP or any other number of ways." Question: Looks like that's the best we're gonna get from them though - I mean, I posted the question and several other members quoted asking the same thing, he replied to someone else two posts after, so he definitely saw it, we just don't know if he can't answer that or he simply does not know. "Not true that 100 streams equals one sale. Not even really sure what that means. And taking down a video wouldn't mean we don't count the views." Question: Hello Bill! Is it true that 100 views on YouTube count as 1 copy sold? And, the official audio on VEVO for Applause has been unlisted, it had 12.8M views before hand, www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bHhpufKRjs, did those views count for Applause's first week? Thank you "I think there is so much focus on first week numbers that some in the biz are afraid to release a single until they feel they have sufficiently pumped up demand. I don't agree with this strategy." Question: Hey Bill, simple question: Whats's your view on artists who release their music videos first and only release the single to iTunes 10 days later? What's the bonus side of it?

Gaga down to #8 on Itunes already. Some were saying she would hit #3 on the new Hot 100 because of streaming, but could she with the sales drop this week?

Wish sales tracking was Sunday-Saturday, so that award shows on Sundays had a full affect/effect instead of some "new" sales being split in 2 weeks.

What happened to roar? Down to 10 on iTunes? Single version replaced with album version (from the pre-order). Wish sales tracking was Sunday-Saturday, so that award shows on Sundays had a full affect/effect instead of some "new" sales being split in 2 weeks. There really aren't a whole lot of sales missed, though. Max 4 hours of sales, so very little increases.

Do you guys think Blurred Lines could be #1 on the year end chart? I did some research, and Thrift Shop peaked at 120 million AI... Blurred Lines is currently at 229 million. I know Wikipedia isn't reliable, but it says Thrift Shop has sold 6.8 million copies, out of which 5.8 million were in 2013 (Billboard year is more, so I supposed around 6,4 million this year?). Either way, Blurred Lines was at 4.905 million last week and there are still around 12-13 chart weeks left, so BL might pass them in sales during the chart year.

It could happen with how strong "Blurred Lines" is right now, but "Thrift Shop" is still kicking too. It'll be close! I'm betting on a "Rolling in the Deep"/"Party Rock Anthem" scenario where one took the year-end chart and the other took the BMA award.

When was the last time the #2 song at radio was so far down the iTunes chart, and only went to #10 on the hot 100? Weird that radio isn't helping Love Somebody more. Maybe people are tired of Maroon5 in this era

Well, "Give Your Heart a Break" was a #1 pop song that only peaked at #16 on the Hot 100.

Maybe people are tired of Maroon5 in this era I think that may have happened with Beyonce's Sweet Dreams. (#2 airplay, #10 H100) Also a very late single in that era.

Well, "Give Your Heart a Break" was a #1 pop song that only peaked at #16 on the Hot 100. I can do you one better. Boy Krazy's "That's What Love Can Do" was a CHR/Pop #1 for 2 weeks in 1993 but only made #18 on the Hot 100.

Oh, if we're going back that far we can do a lot worse. "Torn" anyone?
"Give Your Heart a Break" is a good recent example.

"Torn" is kind of a special case because it wasn't allowed to chart when it was at its peak and the rule change occurred as it was ending its run.

Boy Krazy's "That's What Love Can Do" was a CHR/Pop #1 for 2 weeks in 1993 but only made #18 on the Hot 100. Great example. As young as I was, I remember that song lol (w/ it's Emotions Best Of My Love sounding early 90s beat) and it being ALL over the radio but clearly remember it not selling that well. Gee, I wonder how those 'Boy Krazy' girls (and their one hit) got their record deals and airplay ;P. Nothing will ever compare to the bigger chart tragedies of that disastrous late 90s era of greed at its peak (airplay only/singles held back). Songs that wouldve *def.* had the sales and were so huge on the radio that the some of them would've easily been #1 for many many weeks (*Iris*, Torn, Don't Speak, I Want It That Way, Beautiful Stranger) I know I'm missing more but those def. come to mind. Lots of people forget Celines My Heart Will Go On was only available as a single for a few weeks in the States then the single was pulled :/.- only giving it 2 weeks at #1. Now THAT was song hands down would've challenged One Sweet Day, Candle In The Wind '97 and I Will Always Love You for biggest overall #1/selling song of the decade. Again, that mid-late 90s music/chart climate was sooo shady lol.

I don't know if it was "shady," but rather that labels picked and chose when they wanted to play the Hot 100 chart-numbers game. It also extended into the early 2000s. CD-single releases really dried up around 2003/2004, anyhow, and then we had digital come into play in early 2005.

A song that I wonder why it was big on Pop, #4 I think, was "LoveStoned", that peaked at a measly #17 on the Hot 100.
