Why are people saying it's official that Wrecking Ball will go to number 1???

Assuming Miley Cyrus is the official #1 next week then the song would have the biggest jump to #1 that wasn't following a debut week.

It’s just the third song by a female solo artist to achieve this feat, following Adele’s "Rolling In The Deep" (7,984,000) and Carly Rae Jepsen’s "Call Me Maybe" (7,223,000). This jumped out at me. With that about to hit 8 mill, what other singles (if any) have hit that mark digitally? |

"Crack a Bottle" 's 78-1 jump was its fourth week on the Hot 100. (It debuted at 78 on 1/31/09, and sat there for the next two weeks.) |

Why are people saying it's official that Wrecking Ball will go to number 1??? It's not official, but it seems pretty likely. Bill Werde said a 600k week was not implausible, which makes me think that Wrecking Ball has a good shot at 550k. Roar was separated from Blurred Lines by like 3% with slightly over 550k in sales, and that's without whatever insane streaming that WB has on its side. I was a skeptic that Wrecking Ball could hit #1, but unless we're wrong about either its sales or streaming it seems pretty likely to me now. |

"Rolling in the Deep" is the 2nd best seller of the digital era. Only song to have crossed 8 million is "I Gotta Feeling" by Black Eyed Peas, not sure how far it's gotten now. puts it at 8,368,000. |

(I think that's enough qualifiers ) Yes -- I actually alerted Keith Caulfield on that one and they ended up writing an article about it. It sounds like a lot of qualifiers but I think it's more interesting than it sounds. All the other big jumps are due to song leaks leading to airplay or labels playing games with release dates. Adele's 19-1 jump was due solely to increased interest in the song (triggered by an awards show). Miley's jump, if it's to #1, will be due to the video. |

Hopefully Lana Del Rey will go top 5 next this week I don't want to disappoint you, but there's no way. 1. "Wrecking Ball" 2. "Roar" 3. "Blurred Lines" / "Royals" 4. "Blurred Lines" / "Royals" 5. "Wake Me Up" / "Holy Grail" 6. "Wake Me Up" / "Holy Grail" It won't even be higher than #7 and I didn't count in that "Hold On, We're Going Home" might pass it as well. |
