Over on the Digital Songs chart, A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera's "Say Something" jumps back to No. 1 (up two slots) with 233,000 (up 41%). Pitbull's "Timber," featuring Ke$ha, slides 1-2 with 187,000 (down 3%).
Eminem's "The Monster," featuring Rihanna, dips 2-3 with 175,000 (down 6%) while OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" is steady at No. 4 with 145,000 (down less than 1%).
Passenger's "Let Her Go" climbs 6-5 with 118,000 (up 11%) and One Direction's "Story Of My Life" falls 5-6 with 108,000 (down 1%).
Lorde's "Royals" is a non-mover at No. 7 with 98,000 (down 9%), while Imagine Dragons' "Demons" is also stationary at No. 8 with 90,000 (down 4%).
Ellie Goulding's "Burn" breaks into the top 10 for the first time, rising 11-9 with 84,000 (up 27%), while Justin Bieber's "Confident," featuring Chance the Rapper, starts at No. 10 with 77,000. It's the first charting single for the latter artist, who previously spent one week on the both the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Heatseekers Albums charts with "Acid Rap."
Digital track sales this past week totaled 19.57 million downloads, down less than 1% compared with last week (19.59 million) and down 14% stacked next to the comparable week of 2012 (22.79 million). Year to date track sales are at 1.19 billion, down 5% compared to the same total at this point last year (1.25 billion).

would love it if The Monster can somehow get at least 3 weeks at #1 (as that 3rd week would being Rihannas total to 50 weeks at #1 I believe).

It already went for Rhythmic and CHR/Pop adds. Most added at CHR/Pop this week. I thought the radio was doing it by themselves because its doing really good on ITunes sure, fixed. It's already the third single, idgi. It was sent to pop radio yesterday. Still amazing, can't wait for it to smash even harder in January. It is technically the third single, but it has not yet been announced by katy as the third single..... so let's wait till she promotes it and that would be the start of it's true run :))) Hopefully Katy is planning already the Music Video for Dark Horse.... seems like a dark video again from Katy..... "Dark Horse" entered the top 50 on pop all by its own merit and continued to climb again into the top 40 all on its own. A few days later, the song was serviced to rhythmic radio, the day after was when "Dark Horse" received its first +100 update on pop because even though it wasn't serviced to them, it was serviced to rhythmic, which pretty much gave them the okay to go ahead as well. It was two or three days later it was officially serviced to pop stations. It is the third single and has already been serviced to radio. I doubt it will ever get an adds date because one isn't needed anymore. It was already doing well without being pushed at all. Now that they've given radio the okay to go ahead, it's blowing up, so an adds date would be frivolous at this point.

For sure. Do you guys think "Timber" has a shot at being #1 next year? What does "Timber" needs to hit #1? It seems like "The Monster" is too strong right now.

For sure. Do you guys think "Timber" has a shot at being #1 next year? Of course! Timber is coming for #1 on iTunes US again! It's already gaining on SS and it's not even the weekend where Pitbull's music tends to increase hard! The monster video had zero impact on itunes and Timber streaming is getting stronger, so even if the video streaming helps tm, timber airplay is getting bigger. :) And you know healthy airplay means sales.

I don't get the Timber love. I don't either. I think it's a bit boring. Pitbull has better songs like Back in Time, Hotel Room Service, etc. I really don't think it'll get to #1 either. I think its best chance is gift card week.

I don't see how "Timber" can get to #1 if it's only beating "The Monster" by 10k in sales a week.
The Christmas #1 could very well end up being "Say Something." I'd probably bet on Eminem, though.

"Timber" still has a lot of room to grow in airplay. "The Monster" is about maxed out in airplay and will begin to drop soon. It still has its video, but that will be a one week deal unless it's just a really "wow" kind of video. "Timber" will likely be the Christmas digital sales rush song because songs that appeal to younger crowds see the biggest increases that week mainly because the bulk of people getting iTunes gift cards for Christmas are teenagers and young adults. "Timber" appeals way more to that crowd that "The Monster" and "Say Something" do. Obviously, those will see massive increases as well, but at this point in time it looks like "Timber" will do it. Remember when last year Cher Lloyd's "Oath" went from flopping to suddenly top 40 on iTunes over Christmas? Same reason. "Want U Back" also came back hard too. This year, I'd bet money on "Wrecking Ball" and "Roar" being older songs to see massive increases this year.

Back in time was an underrated master piece but it was competing with call me maybe, somebody that I used to know, and we are young. They blocked it to reach the top on iTunes. But I'm rooting for timber cause it needs to make justice for the times he has been blocked in the past. Timber deserves to reach the top in my opinion. It has been selling great without lots of promo. SS will be number 1 too, but keep in mind that it's selling mainly because of the voice/x factor/ victoria exposure. I have never heard SS on the radio yet; so without heavily tv promo, SS would be in the 30s right now. On the other hand Timber has never been promoted like that, it made the top 5 on iTunes because of radio airplay. So it deserves to top billboard too.

The song scores a second week at No. 1, while A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera surge into the top five
Eminem and featured artist Rihanna tally a second week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with "The Monster," which holds off Pitbull and Ke$ha's "Timber" at No. 2 for a second frame. Meanwhile, A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera soar into the top five with "Say Something."
As we do each Wednesday, let's dig deeper into the numbers behind this week's top 10.
After becoming Rihanna's 13th No. 1 and Eminem's fifth leader last week, "The Monster" holds at the Hot 100's summit. It notches a second week atop Radio Songs, gaining by 6% to 143 million in all-format audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS, and posts a fifth week atop the On-Demand Songs chart (2.3 million U.S. streams, according to BDS, down 5%). It rises 3-2 on Streaming Songs (6.1 million, up 14%), while making the opposite move (2-3) on Digital Songs (after three weeks at No. 1) with 175,000 downloads sold (down 6%), according to Nielsen SoundScan.
"The Monster" is living up to its name, concurrently spending a seventh week at No. 1 on both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Rap Songs charts. It leads the Rhythmic radio-based list for a third week and Pop Songs and Rap Airplay for a second week each.
The song fends off Pitbull's "Timber," featuring Ke$ha, for a second week, although the latter collaboration claims the Hot 100's top Airplay Gainer award after the former had won the honor for five straight weeks. "Timber" jumps 8-7 on Radio Songs (91 million, up 19%), while rising 5-3 on Streaming Songs (5.4 million, up 18%). It dips to No. 2 on Digital Songs (187,000, down 3%) after crowning the chart the past two weeks.
The race for No. 1 between the two titles was closer this week than last week. A week ago, a 20% difference in overall Hot 100 points separated the songs. This week, with "The Monster" up by 3% and "Timber" climbing by 8%, the margin lessens to 15%.
The Hot 100's top three remains stationary, in fact, as OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" bullets at No. 3 for a second week. "Stars" shoots 5-2 on Radio Songs (126 million, up 7%) and stays at No. 4 on Digital Songs (145,000, down less than 1%) and No. 6 on Streaming Songs (4.4 million, up 3%).
A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera's "Say Something" roars into the Hot 100's top five, blasting 8-4 with Digital and Streaming Gainer honors. (In its sixth week, it's the youngest title in the chart's top 25). The ballad returns to the top of Digital Songs (3-1; 233,000, up 41%) for the first time since it debuted at No. 1 five weeks ago (following the acts' performance of it on NBC's "The Voice" on Nov. 5). The song simultaneously bounds 15-7 on Streaming Songs (3.9 million, up 41%) and 38-29 on Radio Songs (39 million, up 30%).
Lorde's former nine-week Hot 100 No. 1 "Royals" dips 4-5. It keeps at No. 4 on Streaming Songs (5.2 million, up 2%) and No. 8 on Digital Songs (98,000, down 9%) and falls 4-5 on Radio Songs (109 million, down 9%). The track tops Hot Rock Songs for a 16th week.
In the bottom half of the Hot 100's top 10, Imagine Dragons' "Demons" rebounds to its peak (7-6), switching spots with Avicii's No. 4 hit "Wake Me Up!" (6-7); Miley Cyrus' former three-week No. 1 "Wrecking Ball" drops 5-8; Passenger's "Let Her Go" holds at its No. 9 peak; and One Direction's "Story of My Life," which debuted at its No. 6 high point six weeks ago, returns to the top 10 (11-10).
Outside the Hot 100's top tier, notable action includes jumps for Katy Perry's new single "Dark Horse," featuring Juicy J (36-22, as prior single "Unconditionally" slips from its No. 14 peak to No. 17, down 11% in points); Lorde's "Team" (32-23), her follow-up to "Royals"; American Authors' "Best Day of My Life" (64-35); Avicii's "Hey Brother" (78-66), his next single after "Wake Me Up!"; and, Kelly Clarkson's carol "Underneath the Tree" (92-80).
Debuts include Justin Bieber's "Confident," featuring Chance the Rapper (No. 41), which begins on Digital Songs at No. 10 with 77,000. The song previews Bieber's "Journals" release (due Dec. 23), which is set to include his series of "Music Mondays" singles releases plus five new tracks. "Confident" marks his first top 10 Digital Songs hit since "Hold Tight" (No. 7) early last month; in between, six "Music Mondays" songs peaked between No. 11 and 17 on the sales survey.
Also among songs new to the Hot 100: freshly-crowned winner of "The Voice" Tessanne Chin with "Bridge Over Troubled Water" (No. 64); "Glee" star Lea Michele's solo debut "Cannonball" (No. 75), making her the first main "Glee" cast member to chart as a lead soloist on the Hot 100. The song previews "Louder," her debut solo album, due March 4 on Columbia Records; and Aloe Blacc, the uncredited vocalist on Avicii's "Wake Me Up!," at No. 85 with "The Man."

"Payphone," not "We Are Young." You're right. Thanks for the correction. :) P.s: I'm glad that the gap between timber and tm is getting smaller! Timber is the airplay greatest gainer this week and the streaming is getting stronger too. :) thanks for posting the billboard article.
