15% lead for The Monster. Go Em. It would be wider next week as the streams from the video would be counted. It's at 6.1M without the video so that must be 8M-10M next week

All of that is true, sure, but for the last couple of years, hasn't the song that was #1 on the digital chart the week before Christmas stayed there over the holiday as well? Not last year. "Locked Out of Heaven" was the #1 the week before Christmas and "I Knew You Were Trouble." was the Christmas rush #1. Year - Week Before Christmas Rush -> Christmas Rush Week 2012 - Locked Out of Heaven -> I Knew You Were Trouble. 2011 - Sexy and I Know It -> Sexy and I Know It 2010 - Grenade -> Grenade 2009 - TiK ToK -> TiK ToK 2008 - Single Ladies -> Just Dance 2007 - Low -> Low 2006 - Irreplaceable -> Fergalicious 2005 - Laffy Taffy -> Laffy Taffy So it's about half and half. Should be interesting!

Do we have an airplay update today?
And reading through here I saw a comment about a delay for charts...so the hot 100 full chart will not be released till Friday?

The song scores a second week at No. 1, while A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera surge into the top fiveEminem and featured artist Rihanna tally a second week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with "The Monster," which holds off Pitbull and Ke$ha's "Timber" at No. 2 for a second frame. Meanwhile, A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera soar into the top five with "Say Something." As we do each Wednesday, let's dig deeper into the numbers behind this week's top 10. After becoming Rihanna's 13th No. 1 and Eminem's fifth leader last week, "The Monster" holds at the Hot 100's summit. It notches a second week atop Radio Songs, gaining by 6% to 143 million in all-format audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS, and posts a fifth week atop the On-Demand Songs chart (2.3 million U.S. streams, according to BDS, down 5%). It rises 3-2 on Streaming Songs (6.1 million, up 14%), while making the opposite move (2-3) on Digital Songs (after three weeks at No. 1) with 175,000 downloads sold (down 6%), according to Nielsen SoundScan. "The Monster" is living up to its name, concurrently spending a seventh week at No. 1 on both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Rap Songs charts. It leads the Rhythmic radio-based list for a third week and Pop Songs and Rap Airplay for a second week each. The song fends off Pitbull's "Timber," featuring Ke$ha, for a second week, although the latter collaboration claims the Hot 100's top Airplay Gainer award after the former had won the honor for five straight weeks. "Timber" jumps 8-7 on Radio Songs (91 million, up 19%), while rising 5-3 on Streaming Songs (5.4 million, up 18%). It dips to No. 2 on Digital Songs (187,000, down 3%) after crowning the chart the past two weeks. The race for No. 1 between the two titles was closer this week than last week. A week ago, a 20% difference in overall Hot 100 points separated the songs. This week, with "The Monster" up by 3% and "Timber" climbing by 8%, the margin lessens to 15%. The Hot 100's top three remains stationary, in fact, as OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" bullets at No. 3 for a second week. "Stars" shoots 5-2 on Radio Songs (126 million, up 7%) and stays at No. 4 on Digital Songs (145,000, down less than 1%) and No. 6 on Streaming Songs (4.4 million, up 3%). A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera's "Say Something" roars into the Hot 100's top five, blasting 8-4 with Digital and Streaming Gainer honors. (In its sixth week, it's the youngest title in the chart's top 25). The ballad returns to the top of Digital Songs (3-1; 233,000, up 41%) for the first time since it debuted at No. 1 five weeks ago (following the acts' performance of it on NBC's "The Voice" on Nov. 5). The song simultaneously bounds 15-7 on Streaming Songs (3.9 million, up 41%) and 38-29 on Radio Songs (39 million, up 30%). Lorde's former nine-week Hot 100 No. 1 "Royals" dips 4-5. It keeps at No. 4 on Streaming Songs (5.2 million, up 2%) and No. 8 on Digital Songs (98,000, down 9%) and falls 4-5 on Radio Songs (109 million, down 9%). The track tops Hot Rock Songs for a 16th week. In the bottom half of the Hot 100's top 10, Imagine Dragons' "Demons" rebounds to its peak (7-6), switching spots with Avicii's No. 4 hit "Wake Me Up!" (6-7); Miley Cyrus' former three-week No. 1 "Wrecking Ball" drops 5-8; Passenger's "Let Her Go" holds at its No. 9 peak; and One Direction's "Story of My Life," which debuted at its No. 6 high point six weeks ago, returns to the top 10 (11-10). Outside the Hot 100's top tier, notable action includes jumps for Katy Perry's new single "Dark Horse," featuring Juicy J (36-22, as prior single "Unconditionally" slips from its No. 14 peak to No. 17, down 11% in points); Lorde's "Team" (32-23), her follow-up to "Royals"; American Authors' "Best Day of My Life" (64-35); Avicii's "Hey Brother" (78-66), his next single after "Wake Me Up!"; and, Kelly Clarkson's carol "Underneath the Tree" (92-80). Debuts include Justin Bieber's "Confident," featuring Chance the Rapper (No. 41), which begins on Digital Songs at No. 10 with 77,000. The song previews Bieber's "Journals" release (due Dec. 23), which is set to include his series of "Music Mondays" singles releases plus five new tracks. "Confident" marks his first top 10 Digital Songs hit since "Hold Tight" (No. 7) early last month; in between, six "Music Mondays" songs peaked between No. 11 and 17 on the sales survey. Also among songs new to the Hot 100: freshly-crowned winner of "The Voice" Tessanne Chin with "Bridge Over Troubled Water" (No. 64); "Glee" star Lea Michele's solo debut "Cannonball" (No. 75), making her the first main "Glee" cast member to chart as a lead soloist on the Hot 100. The song previews "Louder," her debut solo album, due March 4 on Columbia Records; and Aloe Blacc, the uncredited vocalist on Avicii's "Wake Me Up!," at No. 85 with "The Man." Confirmed:Unconditionally is a flop

Back in time was an underrated master piece but it was competing with call me maybe, somebody that I used to know, and we are young. They blocked it to reach the top on iTunes. But I'm rooting for timber cause it needs to make justice for the times he has been blocked in the past. Timber deserves to reach the top in my opinion. It has been selling great without lots of promo. SS will be number 1 too, but keep in mind that it's selling mainly because of the voice/x factor/ victoria exposure. I have never heard SS on the radio yet; so without heavily tv promo, SS would be in the 30s right now. On the other hand Timber has never been promoted like that, it made the top 5 on iTunes because of radio airplay. So it deserves to top billboard too. No song deserves to be #1. They either earn enough points to do it, or they don't.

Hey can someoene explain to me why "Saturday" by Rebecca Black never charted? It went viral and racked up millions of views in a very short time. "Chinese Food" made it top 30 with only about 5 million views during the tracking week, and Rebecca's gotten significantly more. What happened?

Hey can someoene explain to me why "Saturday" by Rebecca Black never charted? It went viral and racked up millions of views in a very short time. "Chinese Food" made it top 30 with only about 5 million views during the tracking week, and Rebecca's gotten significantly more. What happened? This will be the week "Saturday" will make the chart, which I'm sure it did. I doubt it will be very high, though, which is why Billboard hasn't said anything about it. They didn't say anything about "Chinese Food" either until the chart was published. All we know about the streaming chart for this week so far is this: 2 - The Monster (6.1) 3 - Timber (5.4) 4 - Royals (5.2) 6 - Counting Stars (4.4) 7 - Say Something (3.9) The tracking period for streaming for this week's chart ran from December 9 through December 15. In that time it looks like "Saturday" racked up about 13 million views worldwide. We can make a rough estimate that anywhere from 5-8 million of those were from the US, which could place it at either number one or number five on Streaming Songs. "Wrecking Ball" is likely the other missing track from the top 5.

Perhaps most of Chinese Food's views were in the US while most of Saturday's views were outside the US. Chinese Food also did better in sales than Saturday did, if I remember correctly.

Ke$ha and the amazing Pitbull have star power too and look, they're getting the biggest updates on radio for days now. Or you want to say that they're unknown?

I'm just saying that Timber deserves to top billboard, there's no need to contradict me just for a simple opinion. Timber has merits to top billboard as well just like your favorite songs, plus the radio updates it's getting, tell us that it's on its way to be the #1 radio song as well. America loves Timber.

The other record was most numbers ones in a row for a female (Whitney Houston), which was broken a long time ago with "The One That Got Away." Ummmm......no. Whitney's record is for the Hot 100 (same as with MJ's that Katy tied), and still stands untied. You can't substitute Pop #1s in here - Whitney's string started with "Saving All My Love For You", which stopped at #3 on the Pop chart/R&R. Make the substitution, and Mariah Carey with her first 10 Pop hits all going to #1 continues to leave everybody in the dust. I don't get all 4 of ya'll. That folk-electronica is coming, and you will deal.

music.yahoo.com/blogs/music-news/chart-watch-lorde-tops-miley-not-twerking-011835599.htmlChart Watch: Lorde Tops Miley (Not At Twerking)By Paul Grein - Yahoo Music Dec. 18, 2013 Lorde's "Royals" tops the 4 million mark in digital sales this week. This makes Lorde, who turned 17 on Nov. 7, the youngest artist in digital history to land a 4-million-seller. Lorde seizes the title from Miley Cyrus, who was 17 (and seven months) when "Party In The U.S.A." topped the 4 million mark in June 2010. "Royals" is the eighth song to top the 4 million sales mark in in 2013. This has been a record-setting year for 4-million-sellers. The old record was set in 2010, when five songs topped the 4 million mark. Lorde's follow-up, "Team," jumps from #32 to #23 in its 12th week. "The Monster" by Eminem featuring Rihanna tops the Hot 100 for the second week. It's #1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for the seventh week. "Say Something" by A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera jumps from #8 to #4 in its sixth week (that's the shortest chart tenure of any song in this week's top 25). It's Aguilera's first top five hit since Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger," on which she was featured, logged four weeks at #1 in late 2011. It's the first top five hit on which she has had lead billing since "Beautiful" reached #2 in early 2003. Since The Voice debuted on NBC in April 2011, Aguilera has had three top 10 hits. By way of comparison, she had just two top 10 hits between 2004 and 2010. "Say Something" returns to #1 on Hot Digital Songs for a second week. It also tops the 1 million mark in digital sales this week. Imagine Dragons' "Demons" rebounds from #7 to #6 (which matches its highest ranking to date). Imagine Dragons are the only rock act to top the 2 million mark in digital sales with two or more songs in 2013. "Radioactive" has sold 5,318,000 copies in 2013. "Demons" has sold 2,065,000 this year. Avicii’s "Wake Me Up!" drops from #6 to #8. It's #1 on Dance/Electronic Songs for the 15th week. Avicii's follow-up, "Hey Brother," jumps from #78 to #66 in its second week. And Aloe Blacc's "The Man" debuts at #85. Blacc had an uncredited featured role on "Wake Me Up!" "The Man" is from Blacc's EP, "Wake Me Up" (which features an acoustic version of the title song). One Direction's "Story Of My Life" re-enters the top 10 at #10. This is the song's third stint in the top 10, a sign that the ballad is spreading beyond the boy band's teen base. One Direction's previous top 10 hit, "Best Song Ever," re-enters the chart at #94. Here's a recap of this week's top 10 songs. The Top Five: "The Monster" by Eminem featuring Rihanna holds at #1 for the second week in its seventh week on the chart. This is its seventh week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #3 (175K)… "Timber" by Pitbull featuring Ke$ha holds at #2 for the second week in its 10th week on the chart. This is its fifth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #2 (187K)…OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" holds at #3 for the second week in its 26th week on the chart. This is its eighth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #4 (145K)… "Say Something" by A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera jumps from #8 to #4 in its sixth week on the chart. This is its third week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #1 (233K)…Lorde’s "Royals" dips from #4 to #5 in its 24th week on the chart. This is its 16th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #19 (56K)…Passenger's "Let Her Go" holds #9 for the second week in its 20th week on the chart. This is its third week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #5 (118K)…One Direction's "Story Of My Life" rebounds from #11 to #10 in its seventh week on the chart. This is its third week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #6 (108K). "Hold On, We're Going Home" by Drake featuring Majid Jordan dips from #10 to #11, ending a 13-week run in the top 10. Ellie Goulding's "Burn" jumps from #16 to #13 in its 15th week. Digital sales rank: #9 (84K)…Here's a surprise: Katy Perry's "Unconditionally" dips from #14 (its peak to date) to #17 in its eighth week. Here's the second, more encouraging part of the story: Perry's "Dark Horse" (featuring Juicy J) leaps from #36 to #22 in its 13th week. The song has climbed as high as #17…Jason Derulo's "Marry Me" jumps from #33 to #26 in its 11th week…Florida Georgia Line's "Stay" dips from #28 to #29 in its ninth week. The song is #1 on Hot Country Songs for the third week. American Authors' "The Best Day Of My Life" vaults from #64 to #35 in its fifth week…Parmalee's "Carolina" jumps from #43 to #36 in its 13th week…"Show Me" by Kid Ink featuring Chris Brown jumps from #48 to #39 in its sixth week. "Confident" by Justin Bieber featuring Chance the Rapper is the week's top new entry at #41. It's from Bieber's compilation, "Journals," which is due Dec. 23. No song deserves to be #1. They either earn enough points to do it, or they don't. I disagree with your opinion, but I respect it. :) Ghangnam Style deserved to top billboard because it was a bigger and more memorable hit than one more night, but it was unlucky with the airplay despite the cultural impact was more massive. It's okay if you don't understand how the Billboard Hot 100 works. Nobody will fault you for it.
