I know people didn't like Lotus but I still love it for what it is. What does annoy me though is how even on the explicit version, Shut Up is censored. It honestly sounds like a parody because of it. Not sure if it was intended or what but just throwing that thought out there lol.

While it is my second least favourite album she's released, I like Lotus a lot. I think the two things that held it back was the poor production on some tracks and her vocal health at that time. It also didn't help that neither Xtina nor the label had any deep sense of investment/commitment to the project. When I read the Lotus thread a few months ago for the first time, it was generally well-received among Pulse posters and eventually went on to being certified Gold. While one would argue that Digital Sales were at its peak back in 2012, I believe the album could have been a success if "Your Body", "Let There Be Love" and "Just A Fool" where the hits the deserved to be.

I LOVED "Lotus" and thought her image (unfortunately) played a big part in it not succeeding. Some of the looks she was serving on "The Voice" at the time weren't all that great and her attitude wasn't the greatest either if I remember correctly. "Your Body"'s promo kind of stunk. She had "The Voice" but put out a 30 second sample of the video instead of doing something "live" and really hyping it up. Plus the whole "F--k Your Body" thing was a little lame but people were wanting that unreleased version??
"Just A Fool" should have been promoted harder. When people heard it they purchased it. It probably could have softened up her image as well. I Loved "Let There Be Love and Army Of Me" But everytime she performed them it was rushed, her look was awful and her voice was a little off. "Red Hot Kind Of Love" probably could have done well but at the time people weren't having XTina and I bet it irked some people. I don't know the era was a little confusing and not the best handled. I still like a lot of the songs from it though and I am still a big Xtina fan.

It doesn't help that she never performed Your Body live in an official setting prior to her most recent residency. She did the Fallon version but I always wanted one on at an award show or something.

I agree, her image at the time from an aesthetic point of view was not the best (probably the worst next to Liberation pre-Vegas). I can't speak much about her attitude at the time as I didn't experience the era when I became a fan of hers. But from what I've collected it was just years of the same bad attitude catching up to her.

Now signed with Roc Nation. Ooh! This could be exciting. I wonder what other collaborations she may have as a result of this new venture.

I thought Lotus was a good album. It wasn't as versatile and risky as Bionic, but my fave tracks are Make The World Move, Army of Me, Sing For Me, Blank Page, Intro, and Circles.

I hated HATED Lotus...her vocals sounded so strained and rough. The only songs I still use are Your Body and Let There Be Love. Her vocal performance on Sing For Me was a crime!

Oh! So that thing I posted a few weeks ago and quickly edited was actually true!
Wow.
I was always curious if her lack of promo / engagement with the public had anything to do with the label / current standing with Azoff. She's turning 40 this year which is obviously the kiss of death for most pop artists (it's probably closer to 30-35 these days), but we've seen folks bounce back before.
"Liberation" was a cohesive record, and I believe, her highest charting in terms of acclaim?
I don't really know what's ahead for her. Her voice has bounced back better than ever. I worry that "Lotus" was the final nail in the coffin for mainstream pop success. Releasing a Max Martin bop like "Your Body" and having it flop when someone 10 years younger could have scored a #1 on pop radio with it certainly says something.
She'd have to bring something so outside the box that pop wouldn't know what to do with it. I just don't know if that's in the playing field at this point. It might just be a highway to Hot AC (where she's had, at best, *OKAY* reception). "Loyal Brave True" has hit top 10 on AC, but that's certainly with a push from Disney.
Either way, I'll be here stanning as I did 15 years ago. That tone is just unmatched for me. I know there are other singers that can do the things she can't. But at the end of the day, this is the VOICE I grew up to and learned to love. It's certainly never perfect, but when she delivers - IT IS A MOMENT.

Whatever happens, I just want her to release more often. The 6 year wait in between Lotus and Liberation was agonizing and I do not want to go through it again. I want her to make a documentary about all she done in between that time. I know she had a baby but what else kept her so preoccupied? If she was just taking time out to raise her daughter, I thought she would have said something but who knows. She was on The Voice at that time but the other artists on the show still released new albums during those years so that can't be it. I just want to know lol.

I didn't hate Lotus, but it felt really soulless to me. Like, for better or worse I've always felt Christina was always really into her music (except some songs debut cd) and Lotus was like, hey, this is what my label wants me to do.
I just want another great cd from her. Like, give me a great cd again, Christina.

The Lotus era was such a disappointment and missed opportunity. Coming off the huge success of Jagger, she was well positioned for a comeback. And I remember she had pretty good hype when news of the new Max Martin banger were out and then when a snippet of Fuck your body leaked. YB sounded like a song that could have bee fun for the summer, but the label took too long to take advantage of the hype. The single was supposed to be released in the summer, which would’ve been much better. And then with the hype of the leak it should’ve been released immediately, as it was still late August. Further, when the single was released it was in a PG version with no explicit version to be found. BIG bummer. And the absence of a performance WHILE SHE WAS IN THE VOICE was strange. The video was a bop, and very well received. I seriously think that more promo would’ve helped it a lot. Just a fool was another huge missed opportunity. People liked that track, but it was never sent for adds in pop, and no video was produced. She still scored another hit with Feel this moment! And then she didn’t capitalize it by releasing a 3rd single for the album. She released a fan video for LTBL, but that was it. She had 3 potential hits in her hands, so it was frustrating to see this as a flop era.

I do remember she was going through a bad time then (she was arrested for DUI the year before) so I can sorta understand with that but overall, yeah I agree they could have done more with the era.
